I visited Gion Okada for dinner yesterday for the first time, after being recommended by the chef at "Nene" in Kumamoto. I ordered the omakase course (Kyoto) which included a variety of dishes. From grilled matsutake mushrooms to sashimi platter, simmered abalone, salt-grilled gizzard shad, tempura of corn and matsutake, and more, every dish was delicious. I was surprised when sushi was served as part of the course, and I even had seconds of the ikura rice. The meal ended with red miso soup, pickles, hairy crab, and matcha ice cream with fruits. Overall, every dish was delightful, and I left the restaurant feeling happy and satisfied. #GionOkada #KyotoGourmet #MichelinStar #Kaiseki #JapaneseCuisine #Foodie #FoodPorn #Foodstagram

It's been a while since I revisited! I love to eat a lot of my favorite dishes, so being able to order a la carte is the best! No matter what I order, it's always delicious. Oka-san is truly the best. I brought someone from the Kanto region and they were very happy with the atmosphere and taste. ===========

This famous Japanese restaurant offers a wide variety of a la carte dishes. I made a reservation about a month ago with a time limit, and was able to secure a seat. To reserve at your desired time without a time limit, I recommend calling even earlier. Every dish was above standard, served promptly, and overall it was a very convenient restaurant to dine at.

Located a little off Hanamikoji Street, this restaurant was already full at 6 PM. We opted for a course menu in a private room on the second floor. The dishes were all delicious, especially the final dish of mixed rice. Although the pace of the meal was a bit slow, likely due to the full house, it didn't bother us much. They offered a variety of easy-to-drink alcoholic beverages. Next time, we'll try sitting at the counter on the first floor for à la carte. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I made a reservation for dinner on Friday and ordered the chef's special course. Every dish was well-seasoned and delicious. The prices were reasonable and the cost performance was quite good. There are plenty of a la carte options available. I would definitely like to visit again.

I met up with an acquaintance after a long time and decided to have a meal in Gion, so I made a reservation at "Okada" restaurant. I was looking forward to enjoying the old cobblestone streets of Hanamikoji, but was surprised to see that the cobblestones had disappeared and been replaced with asphalt roads. I realized that I was in a kind of Urashima Taro state, visiting Gion after many years. Perhaps some shops have also changed. Nevertheless, I was able to enjoy a delicious meal at "Okada" restaurant just like before. They offer a la carte options in addition to set courses, so it's very convenient. I will definitely visit again.

We had lunch at the Michelin-starred restaurant "Gion Okada" in Kyoto in 2022. The restaurant is located on Hanami Koji Shijo Sagaru. This time, my wife, second son, and I visited the restaurant. We had made a reservation in advance by phone and were seated at a table, which was comfortable. Given the current situation with COVID-19, it was nice not to be too crowded. The dinner course cost around 12,000 yen (excluding tax), which came to about 14,000 yen in total. The dishes we enjoyed included: - Appetizer: Tai no ko (sea bream roe) and warabi (bracken fern) - Sashimi: Akagai (ark shell), toro (fatty tuna), sayori (halfbeak), tai (sea bream) - Soup: Yomogi (mugwort) and awabi (abalone) - Firefly squid with ginger - Grilled sea bream with salt, served with mozuku seaweed - Tempura of shirauo (icefish) and sansai (mountain vegetables) - Hairy crab - Simmered dish of okoze (stonefish), takenoko (bamboo shoot), and fuki (butterbur) - Rice with bamboo shoots and trout, red miso soup, pickles - Dessert: Banana ice cream with strawberries, kiwi, and pineapple All the dishes were delicious with great flavors. However, the prices were higher than expected. The counter tables were quite crowded and full, with customers ordering a la carte. The restaurant is run by the former head chef of the Higashiyama branch, and it was a place we had been wanting to visit. It was a good experience.

I visited during a business trip to Kansai. The restaurant was full when it opened at 5 pm, so I was told to call back when there were openings. I arrived around 7 pm and luckily it was available later on as it turned out to be reserved. The menu was extensive and I had a hard time deciding. I started with a draft beer and an appetizer of rice octopus. For the main course, I had sashimi of Thai and fresh firefly squid, which I think I had for the first time. The sweet tomato, shrimp fry, and hot pot of clams with rare clams and celery were all delicious. The red snapper rice and bamboo shoot were also very tasty. I enjoyed some Yamazaki highball as well. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Visited on a holiday night, reserved the Moon Course (10,000 yen). Was seated at the counter and enjoyed drinking cold sake. Felt the spring with dishes like cherry blossom leaves, firefly squid, and yomogi tofu. Particularly liked the small fish tempura. The second floor seemed busy with a group, and the staff were quite rushed. Wanted to order more from the a la carte menu, but the staff seemed too busy to accommodate. They were constantly answering phone calls, turning away walk-in customers, and seemed quite hectic. Definitely a popular spot!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it's hard to get a reservation at many places, but we were able to get a spot at this restaurant! It's a traditional Japanese restaurant, but they also offer a lot of sushi options which you can order a la carte. The conger eel was especially delicious. It can be intimidating to enter some places in Gion, but the owner was very kind and welcoming.

This is my second visit. I used this restaurant to entertain an important guest. On the day of the visit, the restaurant contacted me and asked if I would like to use a private room, so I reserved a private room on the second floor. The food, the attentive service of the staff, it was a blissful time. Whenever I have a business dinner in Kyoto, I will definitely use "Gion Okada" restaurant. Thank you for the meal♪

I had a meal in a private room at Okada in Gion. In addition to the course, I also had sushi separately. Everything was delicious, and the alcohol went down smoothly. The fish was well-aged and at its best. The fugu porridge at the end was also excellent. I definitely want to visit again.

I didn't take many photos on this day because I was at a work dinner. The Kyoto-style atmosphere around the restaurant was cliche but still nice. Actually, I had made a reservation at this restaurant almost a year ago. I wanted to treat my friend from Saitama when they visited, but we had to cancel due to a typhoon causing all transportation to stop. They kindly understood, and I had always planned to go there eventually. So, I was glad to have the opportunity now. I was very satisfied with the atmosphere and the food from start to finish. I was impressed by how amazing the food was. When the pandemic is over, I want to bring my friends from Saitama to this restaurant. At that time, I will make sure to take photos and write a food review. Thank you for the meal.

I used it for entertaining customers. It's a 15,000 yen course. There are plenty of dishes, so next time I might order a la carte. Everyone was friendly, so I was able to eat without feeling nervous. I was surprised when the head of the Madai fish came out, but it was also incredibly delicious! I will use it again. Thank you for the meal♪

A Japanese restaurant that shines even in the eyes of Michelin. They offer both course meals and a la carte options, and this time I decided to try some dishes from the a la carte menu. The interior of the restaurant is lively, with a long counter where you can watch the chefs in action. The menu is extensive, with well over 100 items.
- Otoshi: Boiled herring roe with firm-textured edamame and delicious broth.
- Mackerel sushi: Light and tasty, perfect for the season.
- White potato stem with sesame dressing: Creamy sesame flavor.
- Fried baby potatoes: Melt-in-your-mouth baby potatoes with seaweed salt.
- Lotus root mochi in sweet sauce: Soft and slightly chewy lotus root mochi with a gentle ginger-flavored broth, topped with shrimp.
- Steamed eel sushi: Tender eel on top of seasoned rice with a hint of sansho pepper. The pickles are all delicious and subtle.
Overall, the dishes had a gentle and pleasing flavor profile. The chef was friendly and the atmosphere was lively, making for a great dining experience.

I really enjoyed myself for the first time in 13 or 14 years. I feel a bit sad that I have been too busy to fully appreciate the joys of traditional Japanese cuisine. In Gion, I recommend Nishimura or Okada. Nishimura offers mainly omakase courses, while Okada has a variety of à la carte options to enjoy. The menu, of course, depends on the season, with over 100 dishes to choose from. It's best to relax and enjoy your meal at the counter or in a private room. At a counter-style restaurant, the best part is conversing with the chef about the seasonal ingredients while they prepare your meal. However, it's better to visit during off-peak hours to have a leisurely conversation with the chef, as they can be quite busy during peak times.

The seasonal ingredients are always available ahead of time. With a combination of classic main menu items, there are always around 100 dishes to choose from. If you're unsure about where to dine or don't know your companion's preferences, you can't go wrong with "Gion Okada" in Gion. With 2-3 turnovers daily and a bustling atmosphere, you'll feel relaxed and comfortable while enjoying your meal thanks to Okada's natural hospitality and relaxed vibe. Menu highlights include assorted sashimi, hairy crab, edible seaweed, grilled conger eel, deep-fried flounder, and salted salmon roe.

From the bustling streets of Gion and Hanamikoji in Kyoto, a narrow path leads to a restaurant called "Gion Okada" that exudes a Kyoto-like atmosphere. The first floor has a counter while the second floor has private rooms that were quite lively. Although they offer courses, the à la carte menu also caught my eye with a variety of options. They also had a wide selection of drinks, including Kyoto specialties. On this day, I opted for the course menu and enjoyed dishes like bamboo shoots, clams, firefly squid, and various types of fish, all served with a delicious broth. Afterward, I took a stroll through Kyoto's night teahouse district, Pontocho. It was a lovely experience.

Michelin one-star traditional Japanese cuisine restaurant "Gion Okada" has a wide variety of menus, which may be the most in Gion. In addition to the regular menu, there are daily recommendations written on the blackboard featuring seasonal ingredients. Even if it's not on the menu, they will ask about your preferred cooking method if they have the ingredients. It's great to have a traditional counter-style cuisine where you can see the chef's skills right in front of you. Located on the popular south side of Gion, it is always bustling with customers due to its good value. I visited for the second round on this day (received a notification that a table was available at 7:30 pm). There are two tatami rooms on the second floor and one on the first floor. The dishes I had were red clam sashimi, edamame tofu, grilled asparagus (amazing), tempura of shrimp and spring vegetables, grilled spring moroko fish, grilled belt fish with salt, and eel and cucumber vinegar dish.
