Asakusa Senzoku - A new restaurant that opened on August 8th along Kanemikan Street, heading towards the subway Iriya Station! This place used to be a shop that sold Vietnamese sandwiches called "Bánh mì" or something like that. I bought it too but haven't written a review yet. It's already closed... So, taking over such a trendy shop, it has transformed into a more cafe-like atmosphere bar. It's a very narrow space but with a cozy feel. A "meat bar" has opened in such a niche backstreet... and upon entering, it turned out to be a place that serves carefully roasted meat! The manager is a young woman, and the chef in charge of cooking is a young chef who came from Kyoto. There seems to be a similar store in Koenji as well...
- Roast beef bowl 800 yen
This was not the type of bowl that serves low-quality meat with sauce. The roast beef was tender yet had a solid beef flavor and satisfying texture, and the sauce was rather subtle, enhancing the flavor of the meat. It's a meat sauce that highlights the flavor of the meat. The amount of roast beef was generous, piled on top of the rice. Eating it with the egg yolk crushed with the sauce was delicious. I haven't eaten roast beef much before, and I haven't often come across something delicious in this kind of bowl, but this was delicious! The high-quality meat, processing and cooking, and the flavor of the sauce, I could feel their dedication throughout. It's a simple bowl of just beef and rice, so there's no room for deception. That's why sushi restaurants and meat bars are tough businesses. Meat, depending on the cut and condition, the cooking time can be tricky! I gratefully finished it while considering such things...
- Extra lunch plate 1000 yen
Curry rice with roast pork! I asked for extra meat for an additional 200 yen... The curry had an elegant taste reminiscent of demi-glace, enhancing the flavor of the meat. So adding roast pork didn't feel out of place. It was a plate with a well-balanced overall taste! The smoked potato salad was also delicious, and the accompanying cold pumpkin soup was subtly sweet and very tasty. Overall, the attention to detail was impressive. Also, the "Blue Salt Ice Cream" served as a complimentary dessert was super delicious! The balance of saltiness and sweetness was really good after the meal.
I wonder if such a high-quality and stylish establishment will appeal to the old folks in this working-class neighborhood, including myself. The previous shop also closed because it didn't seem like the kind of trendy sandwich like "Bánh mì" was something the locals around here would eat often. However, when I asked the owner, it seems that there are already well-dressed older customers who are regulars and come to eat here. That's good to hear! In front of this shop is the long-established tempura rice bowl shop "Senzoku Iseya". Next to it is the eel restaurant "Shin" as well... Alongside tempura rice bowls and eel bowls, I hope roast beef will also become a staple in the back alleys of Asakusa.
