The weather was nice, so my partner and I went to Kyoto to see the cherry blossoms. We passed by this shop and were immediately drawn to its exterior. I quickly checked Tabelog on my phone and saw that it had good reviews, so we decided to go in. We ordered the "Kohaku Nagashi" (750 yen). I thought it was just a takeout shop, but to my surprise, there was a spacious and quiet eat-in space with 30 seats in the back. "Kohaku Nagashi" is a soft agar jelly dessert. The flavor changes monthly, and in April it was "sakura" (cherry blossom). The transparent agar jelly contained salt-pickled cherry blossoms and red beans. It was a refreshing and elegant treat, perfect for the warm day. We also had cold hojicha and hot green tea. The presentation was beautiful, like a gem, and the name "Kohaku" (amber) was fitting. It truly captured the essence of Kyoto's seasons. We also bought a castella cake (550 yen) to take home. It had a subtle sweetness, allowing the egg flavor and the deliciousness of the cake to shine through. The texture was slightly chewy. The half size was just right. I would love to visit this shop again when I'm in the Karasuma area. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I visited the shop before noon on a holiday. The inside of the shop was empty, and it seemed possible to use it as a cafe, but I decided to take the sweets to go because I had planned to use the cafe at the Rokkaku store. I bought the amber because it looked beautiful as a souvenir, but I didn't have anyone special to give it to, so I ate it myself. The taste varies quite a bit depending on the color, so I enjoyed it. I would like to try using the cafe when I have time.

I visited the main store of Daikokuden Honpo for the first time. It is famous for its amber flow. I ordered warabi mochi, which goes well with black sugar and has a deliciously smooth texture. The sweetness is relatively mild. It was a tasty meal. I would like to try ordering the amber flow at the Rokkaku store next time.

I went to Daikyokuden Honpo near Karasuma Station due to work, and tried the Daikyokuden sweets that the shop is named after. The sweets, wrapped in packaging with the shop's name, were small bite-sized treats. Inside, there was white bean paste, creating a subtly sweet traditional Japanese confection. I would like to try other sweets from there next time.

Located about a 2-minute walk from Karasuma Station, this shop is a long-established store founded in 1885. I visited to use the eat-in space that opened in 2019. While their amber liquid is famous, I was in the mood for warabi mochi so I ordered that. The warabi mochi was priced at 850 yen and it was delicious, with a good balance with the black sugar. The calm atmosphere of the shop allows for a relaxing time. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

I ordered a set of amber flow and warabi mochi. The amber flow changes its contents depending on the month, and this month (September) it was caramel and grape. I chose caramel, which was a bitter caramel with a hint of milk, and it was delicious. The brown, caramel-flavored kuzu had an amazing chewy texture that I wanted to keep eating. The atmosphere was great, and it was a nice place to relax after shopping at Nishiki Market.

After lunch, I was considering visiting some temples, but with the temperature at 35℃ and the strong sunlight, I decided to cool off instead. Near Daimaru, there is a shop called Daikokuden Honpo with an imposing name, known for its refreshing agar jelly desserts. Each month they have different menus, and this month I ordered grape and caramel coffee flavors. The grape was refreshing, while the caramel had a strong sweetness, but both were perfect for cooling off in the summer heat.

Located near Karasuma Station and Shijo Station in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, this is a Japanese sweets shop and dessert shop selected as one of the 2023 Top 100 Stores by WEST. After enjoying a wonderful Chinese meal at Hirosawa, I visited this shop in my free time. While this shop is famous for its amber syrup, I decided to try their shaved ice due to the hot weather and the high reputation of "Kyoto Kakigori Tsumiki" nearby (which was fully booked). After waiting in line for about three people, I was able to be seated after a while. I ordered the Ume Shochu Mizore shaved ice (tax included: 1,080 yen). It was served in a generous portion. As someone who is not a big eater, I wish there were smaller and cheaper options available, but the shaved ice was simple and refreshing with a topping of green plum honey. It was a crunchy shaved ice, not a fluffy one. I was able to pay by card.

I wanted to have a sweet treat during my evening in Kyoto, so I decided to visit this place. It was a weekend, so I was worried it might be crowded, but luckily I was able to get in without waiting. I thought about trying the shaved ice, but since I was here, I had to go for the amber flow. I've been to the Rokkaku store often, but this was my first time at the main store. I used to just buy castella cake offcuts before the renovation. As soon as I sat down, the staff put up a sign saying "closed for the day," and I became the last customer. In this season, they serve chilled ame (sweet syrup) with lemon. I chose the lemon flavor, and it was just as expected - refreshing. It went down smoothly even though I was full. I will definitely come back, but I wonder how many times I need to visit to taste all the seasonal flavors. Luckily, I was also able to buy some castella cake offcuts to enjoy at home. It was a lucky day. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the main store of Taikeiden Honpo near Nishiki Market, which was a sweet treat heaven♪ In the spacious and calm atmosphere of the store, I enjoyed the ○Kohaku Nagashi (Peppermint) ○Kohaku Nagashi (Red Perilla) desserts made of agar. The Peppermint dessert looked like an emerald gemstone, while the Red Perilla one resembled a ruby, both beautifully presented. As for the taste, the Peppermint was surprisingly refreshing and invigorating ((o(*>ω<*)o)), especially when topped with the included soda water for an extra refreshing twist. This place is known for its shaved ice, but the Kohaku Nagashi desserts are truly unique and a must-try. Thank you for the delicious meal! m(_ _)m

I tried the amber flow dessert and decided to buy a snack called "Hanayose" on the side. It came in a small bag for about 600 yen. It can be stored at room temperature and has a long shelf life. I wasn't expecting much since it didn't look very fancy, but I was surprised when I tried it! It contains various types of small dried snacks like seaweed, sesame, shiso, ginger, etc. The colors are natural and the flavors of the ingredients really shine through. Despite its small size, it packs a punch and the taste was unexpectedly delicious! The unique shapes and textures of the snacks were enjoyable as well. It reminded me of a shorter version of Yoku Moku cookies. The chewy texture was particularly appealing. It's clear that this establishment has a long history and takes great care in their craftsmanship. I would love to try more of their products in the future!

I went to Gion Festival to buy chimaki. It was very hot, so I took a break. I ordered the red shiso flavor for this month's amber jelly. The smooth agar jelly combined with the flavor of red shiso was very good. Adding cider for a flavor change made the dessert even more refreshing. The chilled sweet red bean soup that came with it had a nice balance of bean texture and sweetness. Since the flavors change monthly, I need to come back often!

Visited around 3:00 PM on Sunday. There were about 2 tables available, but by the time we left, there were several groups waiting. You can choose between red shiso and mint syrup, and I chose red shiso. It had a jelly-like texture with agar and was delicious and refreshing.

The front side is the takeout counter, and there is a cafe in the back. When you tell the staff at the takeout counter that you want to use the cafe, they will guide you to the back. I went to the back as instructed, but the cafe staff didn't notice my arrival at first. It took a while for them to realize because there was no staff on the customer side. Eventually, I was seated as there were empty tables available. I ordered the Amber Flow drink, which this month was Tomato and Matcha (the photo shows the Tomato version). The Tomato version had sweet agar topping, which was a nice balance. By the way, there was no basket to store my belongings. Despite the delicious drink, the lack of service facilities left a bit of a negative impression.
