Visited around 12:30 on Friday. There were about 3 customers already seated, but soon I was greeted and seated. I ordered the recommended set meal and it arrived in about 5 minutes. The seasoning of the mackerel simmered dish was amazing, just as rumored. I felt like I could eat as much rice as I wanted. I also bought some mackerel simmered dish for takeout on my way out and enjoyed it at home.

# Imai's simmered mackerel # Simmered for 3 days adding broth from Imai Shokudo # The mackerel is so tender that you can eat it whole without any bones getting in the way, with even the spinal cord melting in your mouth. It's a dark brown object soaked through with flavor, yet with a gentle Kyoto-style seasoning. Originally started from an udon shop, Mr. Imai created the mackerel set meal due to the large number of university students. If you've been in Kyoto for over 40 years, you may find dining expensive, but here you can enjoy the mackerel set meal for just 750 yen including tax. The miso soup is filled with plenty of daikon and Kyoto-style deep-fried tofu, with a rich broth that pairs perfectly with the strong-flavored mackerel. The condition of the rice is also top-notch. # Kamigamo Shrine # Kyoto # Kyoto gourmet 2023/8/17/11:25

After finishing a night shift, I took the Keihan train to Demachiyanagi and headed north on a shared bicycle. I planned to visit one of the remaining popular sweet shops in the WEST Hyakumeiten, but unfortunately, it was closed. I will have to come back another time. My schedule got a bit disrupted, so I decided to go to a nearby popular teishoku (set meal) restaurant instead. There were about 5 people in line around 11:25, and I was seated at the counter in the middle after waiting for about 17 minutes. I ordered the recommended teishoku, which was served in about 3 minutes. The sweet and savory simmered mackerel was delicious, the chicken cutlet was tasty, the rice, croquette, and hearty miso soup were average, the pickles were too sour for my liking, and the cabbage was sweet and delicious. I paid 800 yen in cash and then headed to the soba restaurant next.

I visited for lunch. It's a dining place near Kamigamo Shrine, just a few minutes' walk away, with almost no signs. I went around 12 o'clock, but there was already a line because it was lunchtime. I waited for about 15 minutes. There are about 10 seats at the counter. I ordered the mackerel simmered set meal. The rich mackerel simmered dish goes well with the rice. The simple set meal with miso soup with radish was very satisfying and I left feeling full and content. #KyotoSetMeal #KyotoLunch

I've always wanted to try the miso stewed mackerel set meal for 750 yen! I went on a rainy day to avoid the usual long line, and there was no wait at all. The mackerel was simmered for a long time until the bones were soft, and the flavor soaked in perfectly. It made me want to have seconds of rice (*´༥`*) Although it looks rich in flavor, it's actually just the right seasoning to go with the rice! The daikon in the miso soup was cut into large pieces, soft and delicious ☺️ Payment is cash only ⚠︎

Every time I visit Kamigamo Shrine, I feel compelled to introduce this restaurant. I've never had miso-stewed mackerel this black before. The flavor is intense and the rice just keeps disappearing. The fish is so tender that even the bones are easy to eat. They also offer takeout, so I brought some back as a souvenir.

Visited Kamigamo Shrine and arrived at 1:45 PM. Asked if they were still open, and was told they close at 2 PM, but I could eat if I ordered before then. Ordered the mackerel simmered set meal. It arrived quickly. I've been here a few times, so I knew the taste would be good. You can eat the fish bones too. The miso soup had plenty of daikon radish and fried tofu. I was satisfied.

The place is located in front of Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto. If you feel like going to the restroom while waiting in line, the restroom at Kamigamo Shrine is convenient. The building you see in the back right direction while waiting in line is the restroom. I visited Imai Shokudo for the third time. I arrived a little before 12:30 on a weekday, and I was the 5th person in line, with a 30-minute wait. I ordered the mackerel simmered set meal for 750 yen and a pack of mackerel simmered as a souvenir for 580 yen. The mackerel here has a unique taste, not in miso sauce. It's something you can only eat here, so I keep coming back. After I finished eating, there were 15 people waiting.

Opposite the parking lot of Kamigamo Shrine, you can tell immediately if there is a line during lunchtime. However, if there is no line, it may blend in with the surrounding residential homes and be easy to overlook. Inside the restaurant, there are tables (counters) set up facing the walls on both sides. The menu is simple, with only three options priced between 650-800 yen. Perhaps reflecting its origins as a student cafeteria for a nearby university, the prices are quite reasonable. The miso soup comes with thickly sliced daikon radish and fried tofu, in a generous bowl-sized portion. As for the main dish, the mackerel miso flavor can be described as "average" at best. Despite being a popular spot with lines, their commitment to a small but high-quality menu is commendable!

Today's walking destination is Kyoto. Let's walk towards Kamigamo Shrine. For a lunch break, we will stop by "Imai Shokudo" near the shrine and sit at the counter. They don't serve alcohol, so I ordered tea. The menu has only three options: - Mackerel simmered set meal for 750 yen - Recommended set meal for 800 yen - Chicken cutlet set meal for 650 yen. I went with the recommended set meal for variety. After about 3 minutes, my meal arrived. It had mackerel, chicken cutlet, croquette, rolled omelette, cabbage as the main dishes. Along with a generous portion of rice, miso soup, and pickles. I started with the pickles, then tried the mackerel simmered, which was tender with a sweet soy sauce flavor. The croquette was soft and comforting, while the chicken cutlet was enjoyed with sauce. The rolled omelette had a dashi flavor, giving a taste of Kyoto. The large miso soup had plenty of daikon, fried tofu, and tofu. It felt like a healthy meal. Even without alcohol, it was a satisfying dining experience. Now, let's go see the autumn leaves. Thank you for the meal. "Imai Shokudo" Kyoto, Kyoto, Kita-ku, Kamigamo-oshikuchicho 2, next to Kamigamo Shrine. Open from 11:00 to 14:00.

Located just west across the street from Kamigamo Shrine's parking lot, this restaurant is famous for its "mackerel simmered in soy sauce set meal". On this particular day, the curtain outside was not hung up for some reason, so I hesitated for a moment wondering if this was the right place. But then, the door swung open and I was welcomed inside. I decided to go with the recommended set meal instead of the classic mackerel set meal. The recommended set meal had only one piece of mackerel simmered in soy sauce, and I regretted not choosing the mackerel set meal after all. The portion of rice and the hearty miso soup with lots of ingredients filled me up quickly. The mackerel simmered in soy sauce had a rich flavor, with the fish cooked perfectly tender and delicious. Many people were getting their leftovers packed to take home. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. Thank you!

Imai Shokudo in Kitayama is a famous restaurant known for its mackerel simmered dish. Today, they only offered takeout. There was a wait for 3 people. We placed our order after waiting for 25 minutes. The recommended set meal (780 yen) included mackerel simmered dish. It was tender and the sauce was rich and delicious! It goes well with rice. The bones are also soft, so you can enjoy it without worrying about them. The chicken cutlet was crispy and light, and tasty! The croquette had a crispy coating and a fluffy interior, and was delicious! The rolled omelette was flavorful. It also came with thick fried tofu and daikon. The pickles had a strong ginger flavor, making the rice even more delicious! We enjoyed our meal by the riverside.

I ordered the mackerel simmered set meal (750 yen) at this famous and popular restaurant where even celebrities visit. I visited on a Saturday at noon. There were 6 customers ahead of me, and I had to wait for 45 minutes. Nowadays, it's not uncommon to find set meals that cost over 1000 yen, so getting this much food for 750 yen is amazing.

I waited in line for about 30 minutes in the hot weather. The exterior of the restaurant is not very fancy (it was featured on the TV show "Kinashi Ransha" by the comedy duo "Tonneruzu"), but the taste was amazing! It had a nostalgic and deep flavor that went well with the white rice. Even though my friend said they weren't very hungry, they ended up finishing their meal. Many people were also getting takeout with large orders. It seems like they sell out quickly sometimes. I wish there was a restaurant like this near my home. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal. I will definitely come back again.

I visited around 11:30 on a regular day and the restaurant was full when we arrived, with a few people waiting afterwards. Most people ordered the recommended set meal, so I also ordered the recommended set meal. The Showa retro set meal with simmered mackerel was incredibly delicious, with the bones being soft and the fish easy to eat without any strong taste. Although it also came with croquettes, chicken cutlet, and rolled omelette, to be honest, the simmered mackerel alone was enough. It seems they don't offer extra-large portions of rice, but the regular portion was quite generous.

I have started a gourmet website for Mitomi Emon. Visit Homepage "https://blog.33inc.jp" and Instagram "@mitomi_emon". Today, I will introduce you to a long-established diner called "Imai Shokudo" located next to Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto. The specialty here is the "Simmered Mackerel Set Meal". The mackerel is simmered for three days in a broth that has been continuously added to for over 40 years. The result is a tender mackerel that literally falls off the bone, with a rich and slightly sweet flavor that penetrates deep into the core. Especially the belly and fatty parts melt in your mouth, pairing perfectly with the generous portion of rice and daikon miso soup that come with it for only 750 yen. This affordable price is no coincidence. Originally, this dish was created for students at a nearby university. Interestingly, the restaurant used to be an udon shop. For students away from home, this cheap and home-cooked style mackerel dish must have been a real treat. If you visit Kamigamo Shrine, be sure to stop by. Enjoy your meal!

Saba simmered set meal (750 yen) - Just after opening, about 80% of the seats were already taken. I ordered the saba simmered set meal from the lady. The saba simmered for 3 days was served quite quickly. The pitch-black saba simmered, a generous amount of rice, miso soup poured into the same rice bowl, and pickles. The saba simmered was delicious, with a simple taste that had been simmered slowly at home. Since it has been simmered, the bones can be eaten, but they provide just a slight crunch. It's not something worth traveling a long way for with high expectations, but these kinds of ordinary treats are becoming rare these days. The miso soup is quite hearty, with fried tofu, daikon radish, and tofu in it. The broth is seasoned quite well, so just this and rice make a proper meal. As I continued eating the saba simmered, I started to get a little tired of it, so I thought the recommended set meal (800 yen) with croquettes, chicken cutlet, and rolled omelette might provide a nice change. I enjoyed eating the saba simmered, miso soup, and rice in a good balance, and finished by pouring the simmering sauce over the rice. It was a satisfying meal with a simple yet delicious taste. The curtain was not out on this day. Without the curtain, it's just an ordinary residential house.
