On this day, during lunch break, there was a small free show on campus so I made plans to watch it with K, who I regularly review with. The show consists of young people aged 18 to 22 clapping their hands, singing, shouting, and dancing to the music. Both of us love this show. Before that, we needed to grab something to eat, so we agreed to meet at 11:30 in front of the cafeteria. I was thinking of trying the "engi-don" to get pumped up for the baseball game between Waseda and Keio, but I changed my mind when I saw the actual food, which didn't look like the picture on the sign. The cafeteria building is surprisingly elegant with glass walls. The menu varies slightly depending on the floor. We went upstairs and decided to order the cold tan-tan noodles. Despite the fancy building, the cafeteria system was quite ordinary. It was still a relatively quiet time, but the noodles were partially cooked and ready. They quickly rinsed them in water and poured the sauce over them. I ordered the tan-tan noodles for 410 yen, while K added okra and a soft-boiled egg. We sat at a table with a great view of the Oyakuen Garden. It was a beautiful day, and a group of foreigners seemed to be touring the university, walking around the garden. Now, it's time to dig into the cold tan-tan noodles. Despite being partially cooked, they were firm and had a good texture thanks to the quick rinse in cold water. The toppings included bean sprouts, carrots, green onions, and minced meat. The spiciness was just right, stimulating the appetite without being overwhelming. Considering the price, the taste was satisfactory. I finished it quickly without feeling bloated, and it was just the right amount for us, women of our age. Looking back, during my student days, I always had cafeteria food for lunch, and I cooked cheap meals for breakfast and dinner, living a frugal life. However, my son, who commutes from home and belongs to the current generation, says annoying things like "the cafeteria is crowded, the food isn't good, it's not cheap, and the portions are small, so I don't go." Maybe I raised him to appreciate good food too much. Afterward, we returned the bowls to their designated spot and then moved to a better position to watch the show.
