At the beginning of the chicken hot pot, I was able to drink the broth from the pot, which was delicious. The chicken was tender in some parts, but a bit dry in others. The staff helped by adjusting the heat and adding vegetables. I was able to enjoy my meal in a nice atmosphere while looking outside.

Located about a 10-minute walk from Kawaramachi Shijo, this specialty sukiyaki restaurant is situated along Kiyamachi Street, where the atmosphere deepens as dusk falls. With an elegant traditional facade, the restaurant guides you through a corridor to a room overlooking the Kamogawa River and Higashiyama. The sukiyaki course includes appetizers like liver with sansho pepper, leading up to the main dish of sukiyaki. The chicken broth soup served at the beginning is delicious and quite generous in portion. For the finale, you can choose from udon or zosui. It's recommended to visit on an empty stomach due to the slightly higher price range, but the view alone makes it worth it. Additionally, starting from May during the summer season, if the weather is nice, they open up the riverside as seating for customers.

Yesterday I had a Kyoto kaiseki meal, so today I wanted to eat sukiyaki and made a reservation for 18:30, it's my first visit here. I usually go to Manjiro, but it was full so I came here instead. Located in a quiet area of Kiyamachi along the Takase River where the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, there is a historical and serene restaurant. I was guided to a tatami room with a view of the Kamogawa River. The view is beautiful. They mentioned that they will have a sunken kotatsu from May onwards. As expected, the view is stunning. There are no other customers yet. I started with a beer and then had the sukiyaki course. Appetizers like edamame, yuba, and liver were served. The liver dish is also served at Manjiro, so I guess this is the standard sukiyaki course. The hot pot arrived. They poured the soup into a ginger-infused cup first. The soup is refreshing rather than thick. This is also the same procedure as at Manjiro. Then I enjoyed the meat. It's a bit light in flavor but delicious. There are plenty of vegetables and lots of collagen. I sipped on cold sake while watching the sun set over Higashiyama, enjoying a slightly sophisticated atmosphere.

Usually, this place doesn't open for lunch, but during this time of year, they open for lunch for just 2 days. I've been coming here for 9 years. The chicken liver appetizer is as delicious as ever. The consistent deliciousness brings a sense of comfort. The best part is the soup that the chef makes with ginger and salt. It's amazing and soothing for my stomach after a night of drinking. The chicken meat is also delicious, tender, and flavorful. The meal ends with a delicious porridge that you must try before leaving. I have so many memories from the 9 years I've been coming here. The staff has always been kind and elegant in their kimono attire. I thought I might not have the chance to come back again, but I will make sure to create an opportunity to visit again. I will definitely come back for this sukiyaki that I can't find in Tokyo. The phrase "Please come again" is one that I like. It's a future-oriented phrase, not dwelling on the past.

Famous long-established store in Kyoto. The rich chicken soup is amazing. When you cook chicken meat, the broth becomes thin and the flavor weakens, but the vegetables cooked in this soup are delicious. It is eaten with ponzu sauce, and the mild flavor of the soup mixed with ponzu sauce is delightful. The last rice porridge is also excellent! This delicious rice porridge is a first for me. In Tokyo, it becomes a fake chicken sukiyaki, just plain chicken shabu-shabu. The price is reasonable, and after drinking a lot, it's 12,000 yen per person. In the summer, you can also dine by the riverside.

In Tokyo, I had never tried Mizutaki (chicken hot pot) before coming to Kyoto and being introduced to it. I was shocked by how delicious the chicken pot was. I wanted to try it again in Tokyo, so I asked for Mizutaki at a restaurant, but the staff seemed confused and brought me something different. I wanted the clear, rich broth with chicken, not just chicken shabu-shabu. I wanted to drink the soup made from chicken, not just eat the chicken meat. The pure white, rich soup was what I craved, along with some sake. The kimono-clad hostesses were attentive and kind, making me feel like a regular customer. They greeted me with a smile and said goodbye with a warm "Please come again." The meal ended with a comforting rice porridge. I felt content and happy, wanting to lie down on the tatami floor and relax. The soup seemed less rich than before, but maybe that was just my imagination. The addictive quality of the soup kept me coming back to the restaurant. I regret not taking more photos as I was too engrossed in conversation.

(※Visited in 2018) Having dinner on the floor by the Kamogawa River on a summer night is wonderful. This restaurant is located facing Kiyamachi Street, where you can enjoy dishes like chicken sukiyaki on the floor. The waitstaff provides full service. The old-fashioned appearance of the restaurant itself could be considered a cultural asset. The sukiyaki with ponzu sauce is delicious and heartwarming.

If you want to eat elegant sukiyaki, this is the place ♡/ This was my second visit, but the taste was just as elegant and delicious as last time. In the summer, they also offer dining by the river, but since it's sukiyaki, I highly recommend dining indoors. The price range is also very satisfying for the amount of food you get. Due to the impact of the new coronavirus, it seemed like customers have not returned yet, but they have taken thorough precautions and the rooms are spacious, so you can eat slowly without worrying about crowding. I hope things will settle down soon and everyone's footsteps will return.

My companion chose this place for a meal on the riverbed seat. We were not asked for our menu preferences during reservation or arrival, and were informed that only course meals were available. We could order drinks as we liked. We enjoyed various appetizers before having the sukiyaki prepared for us. I thought it might be too little, but surprisingly, we were satisfied. The riverbed seats are available until the end of September.

My first time at a riverside dining experience in Kamogawa. The atmosphere was even better than I expected. From the appetizers to the sukiyaki to the finishing rice porridge, everything was satisfying. The sukiyaki had a light and gentle soup, maybe a Kyoto style? It was nice to receive a fan as a souvenir.

Bird Hatsukari is known for its delicious waterfowl dishes. However, with lunch starting at 10,000 yen, the balance between price and taste feels a bit off. While the food is certainly tasty, it should be exceptional for the price. Additionally, the service seems lacking, almost as if they are rushing customers to leave. Perhaps it is because they are a tourist spot, but it would be better if they could focus more on providing a better customer experience. Lately, I find myself increasingly concerned about the quality of service.

This is my second visit to Torihatsu Kamogawa since the summer floor seating in 2009. Just over a month ago, I made a reservation for the "Torinomizudaki" (including tax and service charge at 6,210 yen) and visited with 2 people on a weekday at 7 pm, but it rained in the morning and the floor got wet, so we ended up having our meal indoors. The Torinomizudaki does not come with porridge, but it includes delicious appetizers that go well with alcohol. The ingredients for the hot pot include chicken (mostly with bones), tofu, cabbage, enoki mushrooms, shungiku (edible chrysanthemum), deep-fried yuba (tofu skin), kuzukiri (arrowroot noodles), and mochi. The "soup" where you add salt and sansho pepper to the broth is delicious as always, but since I was already full from my previous visit, I made sure not to drink too much. I heard that some male customers end up drinking too much and running out of broth, leading to additional charges. We finished the hot pot in less than an hour and were already full, but we were recommended to have porridge, which we agreed to. It was probably meant for two people. We were able to finish all the broth, which was great. Both the Torinomizudaki and porridge were made by the staff. I remember during my previous visit when the floor was crowded, we had to make the hot pot and soup ourselves halfway through. That day, besides us, there were only about 3 other groups of customers, so we were lucky. We also had a bottle of beer, so the total bill came to just over 12,000 yen. I have heard of a 15% service charge, but I was unsure about the breakdown of the beer cost. Nevertheless, I was very satisfied. It was a healthy restaurant that closes at 9 pm. I was grateful to be able to leave the restaurant in less than 1.5 hours from entering. They also had half bottles of red and white wine available.
