Located about an 8-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station, this restaurant was recommended by my boss and had caught my attention for a while. I finally had the chance to visit. For the first visit, you need to inquire online. The restaurant offers a unique traditional Japanese cuisine centered around charcoal grilling, with the chef having traveled around various regions in Spain. The omakase course costs 27,500 yen and includes dishes such as deep-fried conger eel wrapped in okra, seared octopus, seared sandfish, edamame paste, hairy crab, abalone sashimi, and more. The course was very fulfilling. We were able to choose two grilled items each to share, and we opted for tuna roll and purple sea urchin, both of which were delicious. The grilled items we ordered were turban shell, blackthroat seaperch, alfonsino, and softshell turtle, all of which were meticulously cooked and very tasty. The dishes paired well with Japanese sake, making for an enjoyable dining experience. I would love to revisit this restaurant if given the chance.

I went to this course for the first time, and you can choose from various types of main dishes and order as much as you want. You can also choose from a variety of options for the rice dish at the end and order as much as you like. I only chose two options, but it was enough to fill me up and I enjoyed it.

They always welcome you warmly, with a friendly and chatty master who leaves a great impression with their smile. Everyone is kind and the atmosphere and service are warm. Each dish is impressive, I even forgot to take photos. There are 7 counter seats and private rooms available. I had a wonderful time and the food was delicious. Thank you for the meal. It's a great restaurant.

Visited on 3/19 for dinner. Ordered the chef's course with a selection of Kyoto craft beers and various sake. The food included a variety of seafood dishes such as grilled nodoguro, smoked firefly squid, ankimo, and conger eel, as well as meats like Omi beef and Tajima beef. The fish dishes were delicious, but the meat was a bit underwhelming. The selection of sake was not as unique as expected. The total bill came to 37,400 yen, which felt a bit pricey. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

I visited for the first time and had a pleasant experience in a private room on the second floor. The hostess was very kind and made me feel at ease. I selected the guji and botan dishes, which were rich in flavor and delicious. The overall balance of the Kyoto kaiseki meal was excellent. Next time, I would like to be more adventurous with my drink choices.

Upon entering the restaurant in Gion for the first time, I felt excited by the atmosphere. The interior was nostalgic and comforting, like an old traditional house. The main dishes of blackthroat seaperch and beef cooked over charcoal were amazing. The small appetizer dishes leading up to the main course were also fantastic.

I give this restaurant a perfect 5-star rating! It was truly a hit, or rather, I should say it was an amazing experience that left me in awe! I apologize for sounding a bit pretentious, but this place was truly fantastic! We made a same-day reservation and were lucky enough to get a spot due to a cancellation, which felt like fate. The staff warmly welcomed us and we had a delightful dining experience from start to finish. We opted for the 27,500 yen course, which had just the right amount of food and a variety of dishes. The tableware was lovely and complemented the drinks we ordered for pairing perfectly. The grilled dishes included abalone, nodoguro, kinmedai, suppon, wagyu, and gyutan, and we could choose two options each. The meal ended with ochazuke or rice with side dishes, which the chef prepared for us. It was a joy to be able to choose our own dishes and share them with each other. The nigiri sushi was particularly delicious, with negitoro inside the maguro creating an explosion of flavors in my mouth! Each dish was meticulously prepared, with subtle nuances that made each bite a new experience. The matsutake mushroom soup had a rich bonito broth and a hint of yuzu that made me sigh in delight. I haven't been to many high-end restaurants lately, but this place truly exceeded its price in value, earning a perfect score from me. I may not have the words to fully describe it, but I will definitely be back when the menu changes with the seasons. This has become a favorite spot for me, and I will always cherish this memorable dining experience. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I used it for an important anniversary. We had reserved a private room, but when we requested to sit at the counter, they kindly accommodated us. It was a joy to experience the grilling and atmosphere up close. The dishes were all delicious, bringing out the best flavors of the ingredients. I cannot praise it enough. It became a wonderful memory of our night in Kyoto. Thank you very much.

The course meal was 33,000 yen, including service charges, so it was around 40,000 yen per person. It was a delightful experience in a serene Kyoto-style townhouse with incredibly delicious Japanese cuisine. I was moved by the food after a long time. The grilled KinKi was exceptionally delicious. The other dishes also had simple seasoning that brought out the best in the ingredients. It was top-notch! I definitely want to go back again!

When you come across a restaurant like this, you can't help but think Kyoto is a wonderful place. The location is full of charm. The food is satisfying. The owners are friendly. Everything from the cost to the food is just right. In a city where many restaurants charge Tokyo prices, this place makes you glad you came to Kyoto. There is a wide variety of dishes to enjoy, with multiple options for mains and rice.

A Japanese restaurant that has been awarded two Michelin stars. The unique and rare kaiseki cuisine, accentuated by charcoal fire researched in Spain, was truly satisfying. The menu offers three different omakase courses to choose from, with the main difference being the number of choices for grilled dishes. With a wide variety of options such as bear meat, soft-shelled turtle, nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch), and Wagyu beef, it is recommended to choose the higher-priced course. The menu changes monthly, so I would love to visit again when in Kyoto. [Menu] - Omakase Course - - Appetizers (5 dishes) - Blowfish sashimi - Lightly seared tuna hand roll - Steamed crab meat with mozuku seaweed - Grilled fugu (blowfish) milt with smoked persimmon and pickled herring roe - Grilled nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) with soy sauce or ponzu jelly - Salt-grilled redspotted grouper (guji) with crispy scales - Steamed crab meat with mozuku seaweed - Grilled soft-shelled turtle meat with negi-ma (green onion and leek) - Bear meat belly - Lotus root mochi stuffed with chestnuts, watercress, and white miso - Blowfish porridge - Rice in a clay pot with deep-fried oysters - Tuna and kombu for rice - Dessert: Niigata Leche pear and persimmon with champagne and honey jelly, Hokkaido ice cream with chestnut pound cake and red bean - Kyoto sake: Eikun - Matsuno-Tsukasa Junmai Ginjo Sake

Tonight, I visited this charcoal-fired Japanese restaurant for the first time. I had been curious about it for a while. I made a reservation in advance for a seat at 7:00 pm on the weekend and went there. The location is Gion. I took off my shoes and sat in the middle of the L-shaped counter. I started with a beer and then left the cold sake to the chef's choice. Here is what I had: - Appetizers: Deep-fried mooroko wrapped in kataifi, steamed rice with moonlight lily root and topped with caviar, grilled conger eel, seared mackerel with the skin charred over charcoal, botan shrimp smoked with hojicha and served with shrimp miso sauce. You can choose the main charcoal-grilled ingredient here. I chose duck and bear, as I had plenty of fish at a Japanese restaurant in Nagoya the night before. The bear was a rare choice for me, as I usually have it in hot pot rather than grilled over charcoal. - Fugu sashimi with shirako sauce: Served with simmered gelatin and grated radish with ponzu sauce on the side. The salt on a separate plate was exquisite. - Seared tuna sushi: Lots of wasabi, but the tuna's fat balances out the spiciness. - White sea bream and turnip soup: A gentle dashi broth typical of Kyoto, with a hint of bonito coming through later. The rare white sea bream was fluffy. - Charcoal-grilled duck: Served with a paste of Shimo-ji negi (a type of green onion). Cooked to a perfect medium-rare, but left sitting on the plate for a while, so it cooled down. It had a good duck flavor, but some pieces were drier than juicy. - Tempura of fugu shirako: Served almost simultaneously with the duck. Served with grated radish on iburi-gakko. I chose the oyster fry with white rice for the finishing dish. - Crab vinegar for palate cleansing. - Grilled bear: Sweet fat and chewy red meat with a good texture. Served with sansho pepper sauce. - Lotus root cake in white miso sauce: Fried with chestnuts inside and topped with mizuna simmered in shindan (a type of broth). - Rice cooked in a clay pot: Exceptionally delicious white rice. I had two extra servings. - Red miso soup. - Oyster fry: The sauce with a hint of sansho used for the bear was also delicious. Very juicy. - Simmered matsutake mushrooms and kelp for dessert. - Dessert: Pear, leche, persimmon, shine muscat on honey jelly. Overall, the restaurant served excellent dishes using charcoal grilling. The duck and bear were cooked to perfection. The white rice for the finishing dish was exceptionally delicious. However, there were some delays in serving the dishes and sometimes two dishes were brought out almost simultaneously, which was a bit inconsistent. The chef was mostly in the kitchen or chatting with the couple next to me, so I didn't get to talk much with him, but he seemed friendly and made an effort to explain the dishes. It's possible to enjoy dining here alone, but it's even better with a group so you can share the main ingredients and finishing dishes. It was a delicious meal. Thank you!

This was my third visit to Kyoto this month. Today, I went to a popular restaurant to enjoy a charcoal-grilled Japanese course meal. It is located about 8-10 minutes on foot from Gion Shijo Station and Kawaramachi Station. As I entered the charming Kyoto townhouse, I was greeted by a lovely space with indirect lighting. The anticipation for delicious food grew. I had requested the chef's choice course in advance. First, I enjoyed five appetizers. Each dish was simple yet creatively seasoned and prepared, making the meal very enjoyable. The sashimi that followed, including blowfish and tuna seared over charcoal, had a wonderful aroma. The deep-fried taro fish milt and the smoked dried persimmon with a perfect sweetness were exceptional. For the main course, I chose crab, blackthroat seaperch, and beef. Although it was a bit indulgent, the rich flavor of the blackthroat seaperch was truly outstanding. From appetizers to dessert, the course was satisfying once again. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal.

"Ifuki" is a traditional Japanese restaurant located in Gion. The building has black walls and inside, there are a few private rooms along with a counter. We were seated in a private room and served with a variety of dishes, similar to the concept of an amuse-bouche in French cuisine. The dish of shrimp wrapped in kadaif (thin Middle Eastern noodles) and fried had a great contrast of textures and flavors. The quail grilled over charcoal was rich in flavor, and the crab was of high quality. The sashimi course included sea bream and tuna, with the sea bream lightly seared on the surface, enhancing its taste. The soup with conger eel and matsutake mushrooms had a delicate yet flavorful broth. The spiny lobster dish with a sauce made from lobster miso and white miso was delicious. The dish of eggplant and sea urchin had a complex texture, surprisingly complemented by the sea urchin. The grilled dishes allowed us to choose two out of four to five options, and I chose softshell turtle and blackthroat seaperch. The softshell turtle was like high-quality yakitori, packed with umami. The blackthroat seaperch was tender yet had a nice bounce to it, perfectly grilled. The grilled dishes were cooked by removing moisture with a vacuum pack before grilling over charcoal. The refreshing sweetfish somen noodles served as a palate cleanser. The meal ended with rice topped with fried conger eel and salmon roe. The desserts included grapes with honey and ice cream topped with black sugar, both with a sophisticated sweetness. The head chef has dedicated his career to Japanese cuisine, incorporating new elements and techniques while maintaining a high level of perfection. The service was very attentive and left a positive impression.

Gion Shijo Charcoal Grilled Cuisine Ifuki on Tabelog has a rating of 4.3 and has been awarded two Michelin stars ⭐︎⭐︎. The omakase course has a seating fee. Among all the Japanese restaurants I've been to, this is definitely one of my favorites. The food is just so delicious, especially the grilled golden snapper with salt and the grilled blackthroat seaperch, the fat is so sweet. You can choose two grilled items per person, in addition to the golden snapper and blackthroat seaperch, I chose wagyu beef and softshell turtle. They also provided two types of softshell turtle, and overall the portion size was good. The dessert was honey jelly with fruit, and it was delicious. The ice cream had a strong milk flavor which I really liked.

Recommended by my younger sister, I went to a popular charcoal-grilled restaurant. The first 5 appetizers were amazing and captured my heart~ It felt kind of like Chinese cuisine, haha. It reminded me a bit of Taian. For the main dishes, they had nodoguro, guji, wagyu beef, and chicken. Oh, the guji with its fatty head was so delicious~ I almost ate everything by myself, haha. Both the fish and meat were so fragrant... Charcoal grilling is really the best, isn't it? And they even served eel as a side dish for the rice at the end, which was fantastic. The hostess suggested I try sitting at the counter next time, so I definitely want to go back (*´∀`*)

Second visit and this place is still the best. Isn't it the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine? We chose 4 grilled dishes for 2 people - nodoguro, kinki, suppon, and wagyu. Every dish is incredibly delicious, every single one! Even the dessert, which was fruit and ice cream, was beyond ordinary deliciousness. It exceeds the range of expression for taste!

This is a Michelin 2-star restaurant located in Gion, Kyoto, known for its charcoal-grilled dishes. Chef Yamamoto worked in Spain before returning to Japan and opening this restaurant in 2005. The initial contact with the restaurant wasn't great, but upon arrival, the atmosphere felt good. The chef and his wife were friendly, and I opted for the 33,000 yen course menu, which included around 12-13 dishes. The ingredients were high quality, and the dishes were well-prepared. The grilled dishes showed influence from Spanish asadors. My favorites were the Kinmedai and Nodoguro, perfectly cooked with a good balance of seasoning. We sat in a private room on the second floor, which was a bit dimly lit, making us a bit sleepy before the main course. Next time, I'd like to sit at the counter! The cost performance was above average, with high-quality ingredients and well-prepared dishes. The restaurant also offers a wide selection of wines, although I couldn't indulge in them on this visit!
