On the first floor of a collective housing complex that exudes the atmosphere of the Showa era, there is a Western-style restaurant ☆彡 When the meal is served, the set meal served on a tray is visually satisfying! The yellowtail and daikon stew is simmered thoroughly and the flavor is well infused! The fried dish is crispy on the outside and soft and easy to eat on the inside♪ The soup also has a noticeable attention to detail! It is sweet and easy to drink! With side dishes included, you can have a well-balanced meal and feel very satisfied!

When you go from Tsukishima towards Harumi, you will find Fukujyu Mansion which exudes a Showa era vibe, with a row of modest and unassuming eateries on the first floor. I decided to check it out as it was my first visit. They offer three types of set lunches to choose from - Japanese, Western, or Chinese. I chose the Chinese set. Today's Chinese set included stir-fried wood ear mushrooms with scrambled eggs and meat shumai. The eggs were soft and filled with plenty of wood ear mushrooms. The flavor was gentle. The meat shumai made the rice disappear quickly. It was affordable. There were about three to four friendly businessmen from the neighborhood dining there. I could hear the familiar banter between the owner and the regular customers. The portion size was ample. I added an iced coffee for an extra 50 yen. It was sweetened. This area, which could be called the hidden Tsukishima, may never see the light of day, but I like it.

Platt, for today's lunch, I strolled around Tsukishima Station. When you exit from exit 10 of the Toei Oedo Line Tsukishima Station, you will find yourself on Kiyosumi Street. Walk towards Kachidoki, cross the first traffic light, then turn left and walk for a while. Turn right at the third intersection, and on your right, you will see a green awning on the second floor of the "Fukujyu Mansion" building, with the names of various shops written on it. Today, I visited "Shitamachi Restaurant Senmi" located there. At 12:50 on a weekday, there was a menu board in front of the entrance. The lunch menu included Western lunch for 850 yen (pork ginger sauté and shrimp cutlet), Chinese lunch for 850 yen (leek ramen and mini mentaiko rice), and Japanese lunch for 850 yen (grilled mackerel with salt, chicken tempura with side dish). Upon entering the restaurant, a cheerful male staff member greeted me. Inside, there was a group of three men, and I was shown to an available table seat. I ordered the Western lunch and waited for about 7 minutes. The Western lunch consisted of two pieces of ginger pork, two shrimp cutlets, shredded cabbage salad, rice, and miso soup. The ginger-flavored pork sautéed in a sweet and savory sauce was delicious and went well with the rice. The pork was slightly fatty, tender, and juicy. The shrimp cutlets were crispy and tasted great with the mustard and sauce provided. I enjoyed combining the ginger pork sauce and shredded cabbage with rice. After finishing the meal with the miso soup, I had a satisfying lunch experience with the easy choice of the Western lunch. It was a delicious meal. Thank you.

This is a Western-style restaurant located in Tsukishima. The restaurant is on the first floor of a Showa-era apartment building called "Fukujyu Mansion". The building has shops on the first floor, with about half of them being restaurants. There are several four-person tables and a counter with seven seats at the back of the restaurant. The seating is based on the assumption that all seats will be occupied, so at the four-person tables, you may end up sharing with others. Additionally, the counter seats do not have dividers between them. Surprisingly, smoking is allowed inside the restaurant, which is rare these days.
As for the lunch menu, there are three options available - Japanese, Western, and Chinese - all priced at 850 yen each. Once the prepared dishes are sold out, the lunch service ends. If you order lunch, you can also get an iced coffee for an additional 50 yen, which many people opt for. I ordered the Western lunch, which included fried squid and beef salad.
The fried squid was served on a bed of shredded cabbage with a few pieces of carrots. It was freshly fried, not frozen, and had a nice crispy texture. The squid was cut into strips and seemed to be common squid or purple squid. It was not seasoned, so I enjoyed it with the sauce provided. The beef salad consisted of pork seasoned with barbecue sauce and stir-fried. It was served on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes on the side, along with mayonnaise to make it easier to eat. The taste was similar to homemade stir-fried pork. The rice was cooked slightly soft, and the miso soup was unique with the addition of watercress. The miso and dashi were slightly mild, giving it a homely taste.
The service was decent, but the owner's loud voice made it a bit unsettling to sit at the counter. The constant flow of customers also made it hard to relax after the meal. If you want to take your time, ordering coffee is a must. Overall, the price for two main dishes was very reasonable. The meal had a good balance of vegetables, making it a nutritious option for dining out. The restaurant has a personal touch, with the owner greeting regular customers warmly. It's a recommended spot for those looking for a comforting place in the midst of the city.

I have uploaded detailed directions and access to "Restaurant Chimia" on my blog. Last time, I couldn't eat the famous "Head-on Jumbo Shrimp Fry" because it was sold out, so I went to "Restaurant Chimia" to try it this time. I visited alone during lunchtime. Due to the influence of the coronavirus, the atmosphere in the restaurant was quieter than before. I really wanted to try the "Head-on Jumbo Shrimp Fry (1,300 yen)" on this day, so I arrived before 12 o'clock. This menu is not available between 12:00 and 12:40, so those who want to eat it must either go early to avoid the crowds or go late. The "Jumbo Shrimp Fry" that arrived about 10 minutes after ordering was bigger than I had imagined, with three shrimp included. I immediately dipped it in tartar sauce and took a bite, making sure not to hurt my mouth. The shrimp fry, fried to perfection, had a chewy texture and a hint of sweetness. The soft belly part was particularly delicious. The tartar sauce was rich and flavorful, complementing the shrimp fry well. The set meal also included miso soup, rice, macaroni salad, and cabbage. The shrimp fry, not greasy and never boring, was a dish I wanted to eat over and over again. And if possible, I would like to enjoy the usual hustle and bustle of the staff again.

I went to a "downtown restaurant" for lunch that I had been curious about for a while. I was lured in by the sign that read "Town's Famous Jumbo Head Prawn Fry," but they were sold out. It was a bit late, around 1 pm, so they had run out. However, since I was already inside the restaurant, I decided to order the only remaining item on the lunch menu, the "Chicken Nanban Set" (890 yen). The Chicken Nanban that was served was thick and juicy, with meat juices slowly oozing out from the cut surface. The crispy coating mixed with the fluffy meat inside provided a crunchy and fluffy texture when eaten. Additionally, the rich tartar sauce paired well with the meat, making the flavor even richer when eaten together. The set meal came with rice, miso soup, and side dishes. The "Chicken Nanban" was delicious, but next time, I want to try the "Jumbo Head Prawn Fry."

I went to Senmi, a traditional restaurant in Tsukishima 4-chome. I wanted to have the jumbo shrimp fry lunch, but they weren't ready today, so I chose the daily special lunch with a choice of Japanese, Western, or Chinese dishes. I ordered the Chinese lunch with meat and leek stir-fry and fried dumplings for 850 yen. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The fried dumplings were delicious, and the meat and leek stir-fry had plenty of wood ear mushrooms, which was great for wood ear mushroom lovers. The seasoning was a bit strong, so I felt thirsty afterwards. Thank you for the meal!

The area around Tsukishima is bustling with Olympic preparations, but if you venture a little closer to Monzen-Nakacho, you'll find old-fashioned shops that continue to operate as usual. Amidst the redevelopment wave affecting many businesses, there is a longstanding dining establishment called Senmi, self-proclaimed as "the restaurant of the downtown area." Senmi offers four lunch options: 1) Shrimp Fry Lunch (1,200 yen), 2) Western-style Lunch (800 yen), 3) Chinese Lunch (800 yen), and 4) Japanese-style Lunch (800 yen). A la carte is not available. The Western-style lunch of the day was a "homemade hamburger," but it was sold out when I visited after 1:00 PM. The Chinese lunch was a set of "cold ramen and chashu rice bowl," which my colleague ordered. The Japanese-style lunch consisted of "horse mackerel fry, ham and egg, and a side dish." Intrigued by the "rumored head-on giant shrimp fry" on the menu, I opted for the Shrimp Fry Lunch. The Chinese lunch arrived in about 5 minutes, presenting a nostalgic appearance of downtown ramen with a flavorful naruto topping. The generous chashu rice bowl complemented the ramen nicely. Five minutes later, the star of the show arrived! It was huge!! The three large shrimp fries were as impressive as advertised, covered with homemade tartar sauce, and looked delicious. I eagerly dug into the head first. The well-fried shrimp fry was succulent with a hint of sweetness. The cabbage side dish was both moist and crispy, showcasing the chef's skill in julienning. The macaroni salad was also tasty. It's evident that no corners were cut in the preparation. This was my first time having three shrimp fries of this size, and they were delicious without becoming overwhelming. However, I started to feel full and slowed down my eating pace. Despite not making much of a dent in the rice and miso soup, I was quite satisfied. The rice and miso soup were decent but not outstanding. Perhaps the chef focused more on the main dishes? The cost was also reasonable. The service from the lovely waitress during lunch break was excellent. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely visit again.

Downtown Restaurant Senmi @ Kachidoki << Created on: 2019/05/14 23:36 Today's lunch was at a restaurant next to Aido Ryutei that I visited the other day. Probably an izakaya at night. When I entered the restaurant and sat down, I was told that the menu was only outside. Looking outside, I saw that the shrimp fry was 1200 yen. There were three options: Japanese, Western, and Chinese, all priced at 800 yen each. Today, the Japanese option was red salmon and vegetable tempura, the Western option was ginger pork and croquette, and the Chinese option was mapo tofu and leek omelette. The shrimp fry lunch is only available from 12:30 onwards, so I couldn't order it. I ordered the Chinese option, while the other two ordered the Western option. Hmm, it was a huge portion. The mapo tofu had a thickened texture with tofu and minced meat, but it wasn't very spicy. The leek omelette was roundly fried in a pan with a soy sauce and salt flavor. The slightly runny center was good. Even though I asked for less rice, I ended up feeling full after finishing everything. Thank you for the meal.

From Kachidoki Station towards Tsukishima, turn right at the first traffic light and you will find yourself in a residential and business mixed backstreet away from Monja Street. There is a building with restaurants on the first floor. Lunch specials change daily, with a choice of Western or Japanese cuisine for 800 yen. Today's options are cream croquette and ginger pork for Western, and salmon kasuzuke and tamagoyaki for Japanese. There are also popular dishes like large shrimp fry for 1000 yen and yakisoba for 800 yen. I ordered the Western option. The place was full, and even a group of two was seated at the counter. The food came out quickly. The rice portion was small, and the miso soup was warm. The ginger pork had plenty of cabbage underneath, with two sautéed slices that were a bit difficult to eat but had a strong flavor I enjoyed. The cabbage was delicious even when dipped in the sauce. The cream croquette was soft. The energetic master runs the front, while his wife handles the kitchen. This place was featured on a TV show in January 2015.

Wednesday. Work at the temporary assignment is almost finished from the previous day. From this day on, I will be returning to the original workplace and spending the remaining two weeks solely on handing over tasks. Since there is no successor, I will be working closely with my direct supervisor (my destiny) one-on-one. We had lunch together again on this day, at the same place as last time, Chimi. The cold noodles set was priced at almost 1,000 yen, which made me think, "it's expensive," but it was quite filling and the taste was good. Overall, I was very satisfied. However, I still can't warm up to the old man at this place.

I had to suddenly find a new sushi restaurant in the neighborhood due to my usual one being closed for the day. I ended up at a place that offers a lunch menu with choices of Chinese, Western, and Japanese cuisine, but has a vibe of a snack bar, cafe, or izakaya at night. I randomly picked some food from the extensive menu, enjoyed some drinks, and was surprised when a chatty old man approached me and even asked for my company name. He seemed harmless, but boy, does he talk a lot! They have a variety of drinks available at cheap prices.
