When it comes to Kyoto, you think of matcha sweets. I visited a shop that I had researched in advance. It is located a short walk from Karasuma Station and Kawaramachi Station. The area around the shop and the inside of the shop have a quiet atmosphere where you can relax. The shop offers not only sweets and drinks but also meals and takeout, so it is a convenient place to visit. I ordered: - Rich Matcha Mont Blanc Drink Set 1,520 yen - Warabi Mochi Drink Hojicha 730 yen The matcha Mont Blanc has matcha sponge cake topped with matcha cream, whipped cream, and chestnuts. The matcha flavor is gently sweet, making it easy to eat. However, since it was called "Mont Blanc," I was expecting chestnut cream, but there were only chestnuts on top and inside! I felt that the chestnut flavor was a bit weak. The warabi mochi drink contains soft and chewy warabi mochi. It was quite large, so I struggled a bit with the straw! I managed to finish it! The hojicha flavor was good, not too sweet, and very delicious. I was able to enjoy matcha sweets in Kyoto. It was a good time to relax and take a breather.

It's been a while since my last visit. I arrived a little after 3 PM and miraculously didn't have to wait to get in. I ordered the Matcha Shaved Ice (Extreme) and the Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream. The Matcha Warabi Mochi was delicious, and the Matcha Soft Serve was just how I like it - with a hint of bitterness. The only downside was that I also ordered the Matcha Green Tea, which made it hard to fully enjoy the sweetness and coldness of the shaved ice.

I was drawn to a shop on my way from Byodo-in Temple to Bukko-ji Temple by the atmosphere and menu displayed on the storefront, and ended up entering. I tried the Suisei Parfait, which seemed to be their specialty. The Suisei Parfait was visually appealing and delicious, with rich matcha soft serve, lightly sweetened red bean paste, and matcha flavors throughout the parfait. The tranquil atmosphere of the shop added to the Kyoto-style experience. Thank you for the delicious matcha sweets. I would love to visit again when I'm in the area.

We visited this restaurant on a family trip on June 18, 2023. Kyoto has so many shops to choose from, making it difficult to decide, but we decided to visit here as we haven't been to this area much in our past Kyoto trips. When we arrived shortly after opening in the morning, the restaurant was already crowded. We ordered the "Warabimochi Drink". At first, I was a bit hesitant, but once I started drinking it, I found it wasn't too sweet and I enjoyed the chewy warabimochi at the bottom. The cute decoration on the drink was a nice touch. Although it's not a place we can come to on a whim, it's a restaurant we'd like to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

Today, I visited "Saryo Suisen" in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto. The shop is located a short walk from Shijo Station on the Karasuma Line. I was feeling full but my legs were tired, so I wanted to rest somewhere. That's why I came here. I ordered the rich matcha latte 3D art for 820 yen. I had never seen a 3D art latte before, so I wanted to try it. It was quite cute. The interior of the shop was quiet with dim lighting, and the customers were mostly couples or individuals. Jazz music was playing in the background. The service was smooth, and it was a comfortable space. I took a break on a weekday afternoon and my energy started to recover. Thank you for the meal. It was a hot day, but I took a picture of the river flowing through the city. It seems to be the Takase River, flowing right next to the Kamo River.

A traditional Japanese cafe where you can enjoy rich Kyoto matcha sweets. I ordered Yuba no Namafu Okayu with intense matcha ice latte and freshly made matcha warabi mochi. The freshly made matcha warabi mochi was hot and had a bitter matcha flavor that paired well with the black honey! The design of the Yuba was round and cute. The taste and texture were like shiratama, cute and delicious. The matcha latte was intense with a strong matcha flavor and bitterness, very authentic. I was curious about other menu items, but for now, I was happy to experience the unique matcha flavors on my Kyoto trip! It was a holiday, so I thought there would be a line, but it wasn't too bad, which was a relief. I also purchased some matcha powder.

After finishing lunch, I was thinking about having some sweets. Should I go for shaved ice, or something else? While walking, I found a place that seemed to have shaved ice! Excited, I entered the shop. It wasn't crowded, so I thought any seat would be fine. But it quickly filled up. I ordered "Tanuki" shaved ice, and my friend got the matcha flavor with sweets. After a break, we felt refreshed and our tiredness was gone. Thank you for the meal!

I tried real warabi mochi for the first time. It was warm and gooey, unlike regular warabi mochi. I heard they also have matcha flavor, so I want to try it next time. It seems like there might be new trends like Shin warabi mochi. I'm thinking of planning another trip to Kyoto.

Visited the cafe and tried the following:
- Suisei parfait + Japanese black tea @ 1350 yen
- Chestnut matcha zenzai @ 1120 yen
We shared a little of each. The chestnut matcha zenzai had a prominent sweetness from the beans and was very delicious. You sprinkle a little bit of rich matcha on top. The Suisei parfait was less sweet than expected, with a strong matcha flavor. It was a parfait typical of Kyoto, but personally, I thought it could be a bit sweeter. Surprisingly, it was almost full even on a weekday. Thank you for the meal!

Suizen is a tea house with three locations in Kyoto where you can enjoy matcha sweets. Their matcha latte is very popular. The main store in Takatsuji has a charming atmosphere and is located in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle, making it perfect for a relaxing date while enjoying sweets and gazing at the courtyard. The rich matcha latte is a must-try, and the 3D art latte with a bear soaking in a matcha bath is too cute to drink. The drink is quite bitter without sweetness, so you can add sugar to your liking. The latte art may vary depending on the staff. The matcha cake parfait is a luxurious treat with matcha and vanilla ice cream, shiratama and matcha shiratama, matcha jelly, matcha cake, and Suizen's popular matcha langue de chat cookies. The rich flavor and aroma of high-quality matcha spread throughout. This is a must-visit Japanese cafe for matcha lovers.

I visited "Saryo Suisen Takatsuji Honten" located in Kyoto, where historical landscapes and buildings remain. It is a 5-minute walk from Exit 5 of Karasuma Station on the subway Karasuma Line, and within walking distance from Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Main Line. The restaurant is located on the 1st floor of Kyoto Takatsuji Building facing Takatsuji Street. As you enter, you will see a red woolen noren at the entrance, matching the exterior. The interior is a calming space with a Japanese house theme in brown tones. Today, I tried the following menu items:
- Matcha Cheesecake: Rich matcha aroma and flavor with a smooth texture that melts in your mouth.
- 3D Matcha Latte: Please see the photo. The foam art inside the cup is very cute. I would love to visit again when I come to Kyoto. Thank you for the delicious meal.

The chewy dorayaki is quite chewy and has a taste that seems to use rice flour. Looking at the ingredients, it seems they use mochi flour. They mentioned that it doesn't last long, so I thought it might be additive-free, but it actually contains additives. It's a shame. I wouldn't buy it for myself, but it might be appreciated as a gift.

Freshly made matcha warabi mochi for 1560 yen. It's a bit tricky to eat because it's so soft, but it's fun. It's kneaded with matcha and wasanbon sugar, and it's delicious as it is. The matcha flavor is strong and it can hold its own even when sprinkled with soybean flour or drizzled with black syrup. Both soybean flour and black syrup, as well as Gyokuro tea stems and hojicha tea, are delicious.

Suizen Charyo Takatsuji Honten, located in Kyoto city, is known for its matcha. When in Kyoto, you must try traditional Japanese sweets as well. I wanted to try the freshly made matcha warabi mochi, so I visited the main branch of Suizen. Although they have branches in Yokohama and Shibuya Parco, it was my first time at the main branch. The atmosphere was calm and quiet, which I really enjoyed. The freshly made warabi mochi was soft and had a slight bitterness from the matcha, which was delightful. The only challenge was figuring out how to eat it with the provided chopsticks and spatula. Despite the initial confusion, the experience was enjoyable. The rich aroma of the matcha added to the overall experience.

You can enjoy Japanese sweets made with Uji matcha and hojicha. They offer a variety of sweets such as parfaits, jellies, and cakes. I ordered the freshly made matcha warabi mochi. The matcha flavor is rich, the warabi mochi is warm and soft, and it pairs well with hojicha. The sweetness is just right, not too overwhelming. It's a refined Japanese sweet that is typical of Kyoto.

I thought it was expensive when I checked the total payment of 2,810 yen for freshly made warabi mochi for 1,310 yen and freshly made matcha warabi mochi for 1,500 yen including tax. However, when I tried it, it was so delicious that it didn't feel expensive at all! It was difficult to eat because I tried to cut it, but couldn't. It was easier to scoop and eat. The wet towel made me feel like I was in Kyoto, and the roasted green tea was delicious!
A 5-7 minute walk from Shijo Station is the sweet shop called Saryo Suien Takatsuji Honten. You can enjoy sweets made with matcha and hojicha in a clean and cozy atmosphere. It is relatively quiet during weekday afternoons. They also offer a variety of sweets for takeout, making it convenient for enjoying matcha sweets at home. This time, I ordered the popular hojicha jelly ice cream. It is a luxurious dessert that combines hojicha jelly, candied sweet potatoes, shiratama (rice flour dumplings), kinako (roasted soybean flour), and hojicha ice cream. The smooth and cool texture of the hojicha jelly, combined with the sweetness and bitterness of the hojicha ice cream, makes it a perfect treat for summer. The addition of candied sweet potatoes adds extra sweetness, satisfying those with a sweet tooth. This hidden gem is located a bit away from the bustling streets, so be sure to visit. Bon appétit!

I was invited by a colleague to visit a shop that serves delicious matcha sweets recommended by their partner. We decided to try the matcha parfait. The matcha soft serve ice cream had a rich aroma and flavor of matcha, which was very delicious! The warabi mochi on the left side melted smoothly in my mouth. The layers below were filled with red bean paste, agar jelly, and other ingredients, making every bite enjoyable! The background of the shop had a small garden with cherry blossoms blooming, creating a stylish atmosphere. I recommend you to visit this place as well!
