If you're going to Kyoto, you'll want to try something that truly represents Kyoto, not Italian or anything like that, but authentic Japanese cuisine. However, I don't feel like spending thousands of yen. While searching for a restaurant, I came across Kikumasa, where lunch costs 2000 yen. For dinner, the budget is around 14,000 yen. I couldn't believe it at first, but I made a reservation over the phone the day before. The reservation process was simple, just gave my last name. The simplicity of it all gave me a sense of tradition and made me feel like I was in Kyoto. Kikumasa opens at 11:30 AM. Inside, there is a long counter and table private rooms at the back. I opted for the 2000 yen lunch set. First, I had warm egg tofu, which was gentle and delicious. Then, a slightly sweet white dish that resembled shiraae. It was tasty. I also had a beer, which was around 500 yen. The sashimi, with sea bream and tuna, was fresh and flavorful. The sea bream soup was delicious, and the dashimaki tamago was warm and comforting. The meal also included rice, pickles, miso soup, and a dessert of persimmon. All of it was delightful. The total cost was around 2000 yen, or 2500 yen with the beer. It was a great deal, especially during the busy weekend season in Kyoto. The location is convenient, not far from Yasaka Shrine. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and easy to talk to. It was a great find and added to the enjoyment of my day in Kyoto.
