I was invited to the second-ranked nationwide restaurant in the Chinese cuisine category at the Tabelog Awards 2022, "茶禅華," which is not usually accessible. On the day of the visit, I met up with my friends at the front of the restaurant, which is a renovated old building with a quaint atmosphere. Inside, there were only counter seats lined up next to each other. We were served a variety of dishes, including shark fin with ankake sauce, Chinese-style fugu sashimi, drooling chicken, blue cheese & honey char siu chicken wings, grilled shark fin scallop Chinese soup, saury & lotus root tempura, beef shabu-shabu in shantang soup, mapo tofu with white rice, shantang soup ramen (additional), and almond jelly with three treasures. Each dish was incredibly delicious and left me in awe, especially the char siu chicken wings, which were a must-try. The head chef, a 39-year-old from Gion Sasaki, showcased a fusion of Japanese and Chinese cuisine, reflecting his love for Kyoto. The overall experience was outstanding, with a Tabelog rating of 4.46.

It was really delicious. I want to eat mapo tofu and fried rice again. Unfortunately, I missed the timing for Pacific saury. I had turtle, corn, winter melon, Pacific saury, drooling chicken with sauce, roasted pork, deep-fried chicken wings, shark fin, beef, temple pepper, eggplant, shantang soup, mapo tofu ramen, almond jelly shaved ice, and peach comfort.

It's a 17-minute bus ride from Kyoto Station. Get off at Higashiyama Yasui and walk down a narrow, dark road to find Nishibuchi, quietly standing there. Every time I see this sight, I feel like I've truly arrived in Kyoto. On this day, I finished work in Nagoya and came straight to Nishibuchi in Kyoto. I was starving. Let me introduce the highlights of this visit. First, the specialty chashu and chicken wings with blue cheese. The taste is so good that you never get tired of it. I want to eat more... Next, the classic shark fin dish. I've tried various versions, but Nishibuchi's shark fin has the best seasoning. I'm not a fan of overly sticky ones... The eel shantang soup is also excellent. A Chinese dish perfect for summer. Truly amazing. I really recommend it... Finally, shaved ice. It's the real deal. The texture and melting in your mouth are on a level that you can't even tell it's shaved ice. I'm satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

It is extremely difficult to make a reservation here. I asked a friend to help me book a table and waited for a year. The cuisine is a unique blend of Chinese and Japanese flavors, not your typical Chinese food. Every dish is delicate and delicious, especially the mapo tofu. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is elegant and luxurious. This is a Michelin three-star restaurant.

I was recommended to visit this Chinese cuisine restaurant, and I must say it was a fantastic experience. The owner and staff were very welcoming and friendly. They served the dishes with great care, and it was enjoyable to watch them plate the dishes right in front of you. The menu included dishes like clam soup, flounder sashimi, char siu and chicken wings, shark fin, eggplant, beef stir-fry, mapo tofu, dan dan noodles, and dessert - all of which were impeccable. They even poured the beer carefully, removing the foam before serving. Overall, it was a very meticulous and welcoming restaurant, and I can understand why it's hard to get a reservation there.

At the small path south of Yasaka Shrine, there is a restaurant with a subtle presence that blends into its surroundings. The dishes have a traditional Japanese appearance, but the soup and sauce have a Chinese influence. It was my first time trying Chashu prepared this way. After the meal, stepping outside, the charming streetscape of Kyoto was truly delightful.

I have been wanting to go to Nishibuchi Ryotei so badly, and finally got the chance. The creative Chinese cuisine was great, not the typical heavy Chinese food. The famous roasted pork and chicken wings were incredibly delicious. I could eat them all day. Every other dish was also delicious. Nishibuchi's atmosphere was fun and made the dining experience enjoyable. If given the chance, I would definitely want to visit this restaurant again.

First visit with high expectations. The interior had a calm atmosphere with a deep counter. Enjoyed a variety of dishes, but the taste was just average. It didn't quite live up to the hype. The cost performance was also not great.

I love the delicate flavors of Nishibuchi Restaurant's Chinese cuisine. It's easy to go overboard with strong flavors in Chinese dishes, but Nishibuchi knows how to keep it just right. I wanted to try the fried rice, but I was already full! Thank you for the delicious meal! Chicken and shellfish, white asparagus, clear soup with squid, sea urchin from Amakusa, pon candy, char siu with blue cheese, chicken wings, shark fin, green chili peppers, steamed beef with sake, mapo tofu with broth, cold sweet red bean soup.

Regular visits. It's a joy to come twice a year. This month started with bird clams, followed by white squid, sea urchin, and sea bream, all served with the perfect cooking method. Of course, the specialty shark fin soup and char siu are still excellent. Each dish is worth visiting for, but the overall balance is outstanding. It's a restaurant where you can enjoy seasonal dishes.

Nishibuchi Restaurant in Higashiyama, Kyoto is a unique blend of Chinese cuisine with a touch of Japanese style, known as Kyoto-style Nouvelle Chinoise. The chef, who trained in Chinese cuisine and at Gion Sasaki, has created a beautiful space with a Japanese atmosphere.
During my first visit, I tried their specialty dish, "Char Siu and Chicken Wings." The char siu, combined with honey and blue cheese, had a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness, bursting with flavor. The chicken wings were stuffed with bird's nest, adding a crispy texture and locking in the richness of the chicken wings.
I also enjoyed the "Firefly Squid and Uni Cold Vermicelli," where the rich umami of the uni paired well with the refreshing vermicelli. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, and the Grilled Shark Fin Soup was a delicate dish with tender shark fin steak in a sophisticated dried scallop soup.
Overall, it was a delightful dining experience with dishes like Crab Soup, Steamed Egg Custard, White Asparagus Tempura with Century Egg Tartar, and Ma Po Tofu. The White Radish and Watercress with Flounder Soup, and the Hot and Sour Ramen were also highlights of the meal.

Located 556m from Gion Shijo Station, this stylish Japanese-Chinese restaurant in a beautifully renovated Kyoto town with a 10-seat counter is a must-visit. Chef Nishibuchi, who trained at Gion Sasaki, has created a delicate fusion of Japanese and Chinese cuisine that has quickly captivated customers. The dashi broth was particularly delicious. Even ingredients I usually don't like, such as century eggs and blue cheese, were surprisingly enjoyable. Chef Nishibuchi's friendly personality makes you want to come back again. The course menu with drinks costs 30,000 yen and includes dishes like hairy crab and shark fin Chinese soup, clam tempura with century egg tartar, drooling chicken, honey char siu, abalone and shark fin soup, red snapper and white asparagus, beef shabu-shabu hot pot, mapo tofu with rice, and three-color citrus almond jelly. Don't forget to save this great restaurant in your memory!

In Kyoto, the cherry blossoms at Nishibuchi Restaurant were at about 30% bloom. Kyoto seems like it will be in full bloom next week. Today, I had the clam and century egg tartare, which was absolutely delicious. Thank you for the refreshing and flavorful Chinese cuisine until the end today. I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

Famous Chinese restaurant in Kyoto. I was thrilled to visit for the first time after being invited! I love Chinese food so I am really happy♪ Located in a quiet street in the Gion district, it's easy to miss without a map. The interior has a long counter and a garden in the back, creating a lovely Kyoto atmosphere. The dishes combine the gentleness of Kyoto-style Chinese cuisine with creativity, offering a unique personality compared to other restaurants. Mr. Nishibuchi's customer service is excellent, making the dining experience enjoyable. The drool chicken uses rare chicken breast tataki, leaving a lasting impression with a unique taste. Combining char siu with blue cheese was also a first for me, and the salty cheese flavor unexpectedly matched well. The soupless tantanmen at the end had a perfect blend of spices. I would love to try dishes from different seasons at this wonderful restaurant. ☆Menu of the day: Chef's choice course.

Everything was impressively delicious. I was especially surprised by the grilled sea cucumber. In the past, even at relatively good restaurants, I often felt a slight bitterness in the sea cucumber, but this one had none, just a delicious aroma and flavor. The combination of blue cheese and pork was outstanding, and the Yodare-dori was a taste I had never experienced before. They only accept cash, and while it's on the pricier side for a Chinese restaurant, I definitely want to go back. Shubuchi-san was also handsome and entertaining.

Located in a quiet and charming spot off the main tourist street of Gion in Kyoto, Nishibuchi Ryotei is a delightful place to visit. I recently had lunch there and it was delicious from start to finish. The foie gras was exceptional, and the classic chashu with blue cheese was simply divine. The mapo tofu and rice were followed by a surprising dish of tantan men without soup, which I highly recommend. The almond jelly dessert was incredibly smooth, with a refreshing hint of yuzu citrus. It was truly a blissful experience.

The taste was perfect. However, I wish they had asked about my preference for spiciness. They mentioned that they give two seats to Amex customers twice a month, for the first half. I hope they will be fair about it. Couldn't make a reservation for the next time. Have to go to a club in Gion that holds seats. It's going to be expensive.
