Located about a 5-minute walk from Takadanobaba Station on the JR Yamanote Line, this soup curry restaurant also offers a mix of Thai and Vietnamese cuisine on their menu, giving it a somewhat ethnic feel. I visited during lunchtime on a weekday and the restaurant was almost full, with about 8-9 out of 10 seats taken.
Looking at the menu, there were various options for soup curry, with choices for soup base, toppings, and spiciness levels. It was a bit confusing as the prices were not very clear on the menu. I decided to go with the safe choice of Chicken and Vegetable Soup Curry, with the original soup base and the 4th level of spiciness.
I also ordered a Lassi for my drink, but later found out that it was an additional charge. The meal arrived promptly, and I dug in.
[Chicken and Vegetable Soup Curry]
The spiciness level I chose was quite hot, making my throat tingle a bit. It was bearable, though towards the end of the meal, my mouth was feeling the heat. The rice portion was large, with enough for about two bowls. The free topping of boiled egg was a nice addition, and the bone-in chicken leg meat was tender and flavorful, complementing the curry well. The vegetables were boiled, not fried, and the crispy lotus root was a standout.
[Lassi]
The Lassi was thick and creamy, with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Although I didn't realize it would be an extra charge, it turned out to be a pleasant drink.
Overall, I found the soup curry to be light and not very rich in flavor, which didn't quite match my personal preference. Nonetheless, it was a satisfying meal. Thank you.
