During a stroll from Shibuya to Shinjuku, I had lunch at an Indian restaurant called "Evin Yoyogi-Kitasando" near Meiji Shrine. The restaurant is located near the Kitasando intersection where Meiji Avenue and the highway intersect. I had passed by the restaurant many times before, but this was my first time having lunch there. It was a slightly chilly day, and I was feeling hungry, so I couldn't resist stopping there before heading to Shinjuku. Inside the restaurant, I was surprised by the sky-blue ceiling, which created an atmosphere that didn't feel like your typical Indian restaurant. I was the first customer for lunch that day and was guided to my preferred seat, a bench seat by the wall. The recommended lunch options included the "Evin Special" set, which came with curry, naan, chicken tikka, salad, and a drink, as well as the "A Lunch Set" which included curry, naan, salad, and a drink starting from 850 yen. The main choices were naan or rice, with unique options like cheese naan and sesame naan, along with plain naan and rice available for unlimited refills. There were 12 curry options to choose from, including chicken, keema, dal (lentil), and sag (spinach). I decided to go for a curry lunch with my spouse, and we both ordered curry sets. We were served a salad first, with the familiar orange dressing commonly found in Indian restaurants, which had a pleasant sesame flavor. My wife chose the spinach curry from the A Lunch Set (850 yen), which came with a large piece of naan that slightly overflowed the tray. The naan was slightly sweet and had a crispy texture on the surface, while the curry had a rich and flavorful taste with plenty of spinach. For my lunch, I opted for the Cheese Naan Set (1,150 yen) with chicken and spinach curry. The cheese naan was generously filled with melted cheese, creating a chewy and satisfying texture that complemented the curry well. The saffron rice I tried was freshly cooked and served hot, with delicious grains that made it enjoyable on its own. We also tried the hot chai tea after our meal, which had a slightly sweet taste that provided a comforting end to the meal. Although we hadn't checked the restaurant's reviews beforehand, we were lucky to discover the delicious cheese naan, which impressed my husband so much that he wanted to come back just for it. Even my wife, who doesn't usually eat cheese, found it delicious and we look forward to trying different curries on our next visit.
