Teleworking most days, occasionally commuting to Tokyo. Got invited by a married woman to have lunch together. Where should we go? How about a Sichuan cuisine restaurant, suggested by the women. So, the three of us went to a Sichuan restaurant called "Szechuan Tenfu." The photos of dishes at the front of the staircase leading to the basement feature authentic dishes like mapo tofu, laziji, and hot pot. Seems like their specialty. The lunch menu includes both spicy and non-spicy dishes. What do you recommend? they asked me. Based on the dishes I tried, for the spice-loving R lady, I recommend ordering the "Sichuan-style Beef" made extra spicy. For the H lady, a dish not on the lunch menu. The "Saliva Chicken Set Meal" with a photo on the wall is delicious. And for me, I ordered the Spicy Stir-fried Chicken Set Meal. In Chinese, it's called "La Ji Zi," the same as the laziji on the staircase. The La Ji Zi is made by cutting fried chicken into small pieces, stir-frying it with lots of chili peppers and vegetables. The Spicy Stir-fried Chicken Set Meal comes with rice, soup, almond jelly, and pickles. The spicy stir-fried chicken. So many chili peppers! The vegetables include bamboo shoots, carrots, bell peppers, onions, etc. While there are a lot of chili peppers, it's not as much as in the staircase photo. And there's very little Sichuan peppercorn, almost none. The red chili peppers are deseeded, so the spiciness is mild. For this dish, you can eat the ingredients and chili peppers separately or just eat the chili peppers. Even though the seeds are removed, chili peppers are still spicy. Eating rice helps reduce the spiciness. The pickles are not zasai, but pickled in vinegar, serving as a buffer for the spiciness. After finishing the meal, I felt a burning sensation in my chest. It's not from being impressed by the dish, my stomach is just hot. Chili peppers are indeed spicy. However, I wish they would add as much chili peppers as in the staircase photo. Next time, I'll make sure of that. Thank you for the meal.
