A friend informed us that they would be playing the flute for the "Descent of the Heavenly Grandson" in the traditional Kagura performance at Mizugi-an near Tokyo Metro Mitsukoshimae Station on National Foundation Day, so the three of us rushed over. The location is a building next to the Fukutoku Shrine with a large red torii gate, and Mizugi-an is located on the basement floor. As we entered, we were greeted by a modern and luxurious atmosphere, with Japanese national flags hanging at the entrance, which we later found out were the flags of the 10th generation head of the Ishiyama Shachu school. Inside the restaurant, there was a magnificent Noh stage, and our friend had reserved seats right in front of it for us. We settled into the plush sofas and enjoyed the fusion BGM playing in the background. We ordered the special Japanese cuisine course for 18,150 yen, which included dishes such as Udo kimpira, Miooka tofu with caviar and green onions, herring silk rolls, crab amber simmered in ginger, and more. The course was accompanied by a sparkling drink called Shichiken for 1,540 yen. Each dish was exquisite and delicious. The highlight of the evening was the performance of the "Descent of the Heavenly Grandson" Kagura. The performance featured the 10th generation head of the Ishiyama Shachu school, Ishiyama Hiromasa, as well as other talented performers playing the flute and drums. The performance lasted about 45 minutes and depicted the mythical descent of the grandson of the sun goddess, Amaterasu, to earth, where he sowed the seeds of the five grains for a bountiful harvest. The performance was accompanied by powerful flute and drum music, and it was truly captivating to watch. Mizugi-an is a beautiful and upscale restaurant with a stunning Noh stage that offers top-quality Japanese cuisine. It's a great place to enjoy traditional performances like Kagura while indulging in delicious food. Highly recommended!

This time, I was invited to a Noh viewing event through a friend's introduction. The location is in the underground of the Mori of Fukutoku Shrine, near Nihonbashi, such as Coredo Muromachi, which is quite an amazing place. Going down the stairs, the inside is very spacious and has a wonderful atmosphere. As soon as you enter, there is a stylish bar, and across from it is a splendid Noh stage. It's amazing that there is such a place underground. First, we enjoyed watching Noh while having a drink. It's nice to watch in a relaxed atmosphere like this. There's no worry about falling asleep. After that, we had a meal. This time, it was 12,000 yen with all-you-can-drink included. It was a set meal, and quite a lot of food came out at once, but I guess that's because there were many people. The contents were as follows, but it was delicious. Appetizer: Chrysanthemum flower, seaweed, shiitake mushroom, lotus leaf, tofu skin, crab, yellow chrysanthemum Main dish: Hachio tofu, salmon roe, green onion Sashimi: Bonito, flounder, amberjack Simmered dish: Shrimp, taro, eggplant, shiitake mushroom, lotus root, chrysanthemum crab sauce Grilled dish: Grilled mackerel with yuzu, apricot, mountain and sea moon Rice dish: Red snapper and matsutake mushroom rice, pickles, red miso soup Dessert: Warabi mochi, mango mousse I would like to visit again if there is another opportunity.

The "Mizugian" restaurant & bar, created by Kimura Hideki, the man behind the famous "Art Aquarium," has reopened with the concept of "Playing with Japanese culture through the seasons." They offer a unique dining experience where guests can enjoy traditional Japanese culture, be delighted, healed, and inspired. The menu focuses on fresh ingredients based on the ancient Japanese calendar "Nijushi Sekki" and the traditional Japanese dashi broth. The dishes allow guests to experience the joy of "playing with food through the seasons." The stage, set against the backdrop of an ancient pine tree painted by a Kano school artist from the Edo period (yes, it's real!), hosts performances of various traditional Japanese performing arts such as Noh, Kyogen, Japanese dance, and Gagaku. Guests can enjoy traditional Japanese performing arts up close as part of their dining experience. The dinner menu offers a Light Course for 6,600 yen and a Full Course for 13,200 yen. The dishes are served in traditional Japanese tableware inherited from the famous Nagasaki restaurant "Fukiro" loved by historical figures like Ito Hirobumi and Sakamoto Ryoma. The seating areas feature luxurious sofas made from the protected Nabeshima Donsu fabric, and the floor mats are custom-made by Yoshinoya, known for preserving traditional techniques with vibrant colors. This restaurant in Nihonbashi offers a new aesthetic of Japanese culture where guests can leisurely enjoy their food and drinks. It's a place worth dressing up for and visiting. Check out their Instagram for more photos!

Located in Coredo Muromachi in Nihonbashi, "Suigian" is a theater-style restaurant and lounge where you can enjoy traditional Japanese performing arts such as Noh and Kyogen, as well as performances of shamisen and koto. Going down to the basement floor, you will be surprised to find a luxurious and spacious venue with a stage decorated with authentic wall paintings from Nijo Castle. The attention to detail extends to the tableware, including antique Imari ware and Satsuma cut glass. The non-alcoholic cocktail "Atsumori" is a refreshing blend of lemon, lime, mint, and ginger ale, inspired by the historical figure Heita Atsumori. The appetizer platter includes a variety of dishes such as red snapper nanban-zuke, blowfish and sea urchin, tempura, eggplant miso, prosciutto, and camembert cheese. The miso katsu don, with its generous portion size, features a sweet and savory miso sauce topped with white sesame and egg yolk. The dish is accompanied by crispy cabbage and flavorful green onions. The meal concludes with matcha tea and a traditional Japanese sweet made with green tea and pine nuts. Live performances of the koto and shamisen add an elegant touch to the dining experience, with different performances scheduled depending on the date and time of your reservation. Suigian offers a sophisticated atmosphere perfect for a romantic date or a special night out.

I had always been curious about this restaurant, and finally had the opportunity to visit. It is a wonderful place where you can enjoy a combination of art exhibitions and dining. I am truly grateful to the people who created this place. I visited during a special time with many celebratory events due to the start of the new era, Reiwa. I was able to enjoy a magnificent stage performance titled "Descent of the Heavenly Grandchild". The sake and appetizers I had while watching the performance complemented each other perfectly, making the experience even more enjoyable. The auspicious Japanese sake was delicious, and I found the yuba served with transparent soy sauce to be quite unique. I also had the chance to talk with the performers and enjoy traditional Japanese dance, making it a truly elegant and enjoyable experience.

This is a theater-style restaurant that was born in the Fukutoku no Mori located in the basement of Coredo Nihonbashi 2. Designed by an artist who created the Art Aquarium, the atmosphere is a wonderful fusion of traditional culture and modern Japanese art. Traditional Japanese performances such as Noh, Kyogen, Hayashi, and dance are staged alternately. The restaurant offers courses for lunch and dinner featuring sushi from the Edo-style sushi restaurant "Sushiei," tea from the Kyoto tea shop "Fukujuen," and sweets from "Oimatsu" and "Kamesuehiro." The lounge, called "Hyakusen Lounge," is available for use after 8:30 PM, where you can enjoy a selection of sake chosen from all over Japan by the actor Tatsuro Tatsumi, known for his expertise in food and wine. Personally, I welcome the increase of adult amusements like this place that allows you to enjoy an extraordinary space and promotes Japanese culture.

I visited Mizugi-an, located in the basement of Nihonbashi, for the bar time starting at 8:30 pm. The place is quite hidden, making it hard to find if you are not familiar with it. It seems to be located underground near a shrine. The service was very polite, on par with a high-end hotel. The interior was a lovely space where the traditional Japanese world harmonized with contemporary art. I chose to sit in the sofa area at the back, which looked very nice. I had the grilled duck and a glass of white wine (Kerner from Hokkaido), both of which were exquisite. During bar time, you can enjoy watching real Japanese traditional dance performances every few minutes. It was a very luxurious moment. The price for one glass of wine and one dish for two people is around 4,000 yen per person. If you have two glasses, it will be around 6,000 yen. There didn't seem to be any time limit or time-based charges. It felt like there were only regular customers there, probably because it's not well-known yet. I think it deserves to be more popular. I highly recommend this place. *I was told that it's okay to take photos and upload them online, so I'm sharing them.
