On this day, I had lunch in Omori. I came to this Kyushu-style izakaya. The location is a 3-minute walk from JR Omori Station North Exit, on the 2nd floor of a mixed-use building. While there was already Kyushu Netchuya in Omori, on July 7, 2017, this second branch opened, which was an auspicious day. The first branch, Kyushu Netchuya Omori LIVE, had one night visit and was quite satisfying. So, I had some expectations for their lunch menu. There is a lunch menu posted on the street, so I first looked at it. The lunch menu has been the same since the opening, and on this day, they had: - Beef cutlet set meal 1080 yen - Chicken Nanban & Harasu set meal 850 yen - Gomaburi don 850 yen - Hitsumabushi set meal 850 yen - Ginger grilled set meal 850 yen. I decided on the Hitsumabushi set meal and went up the stairs to the 2nd floor of the restaurant. When I entered the restaurant and informed them that I was dining alone, I was seated in the area by the window on the left-hand side, at a table for two. It was lucky to be close to the drink bar. I ordered the Hitsumabushi set meal for 850 yen. The restaurant is run by three staff members, one male and two females, and it was quite busy with customers. The atmosphere in the restaurant was typical of an izakaya. Previously, it was a seafood izakaya called Uotoku Omori, so it was likely a takeover. The background music was Japanese pop music, mostly idol songs. The drink bar had Oolong tea, iced coffee, orange juice, and grapefruit juice, which I enjoyed while waiting for my order. The Hitsumabushi was served in about 8 minutes. The Hitsumabushi set meal included: - Pickles: pickled Chinese cabbage, which was tasty. - Side dish: cold tofu with grated ginger on top. The tofu was silky smooth. - Dashi: it was served in a flat teapot. I immediately made an eel dashi tea using a separate plate, but it had already cooled down and the dashi was too weak, almost like hot water. I was disappointed with the dashi. - Hitsumabushi: about 250g of rice topped with chopped seaweed, shredded omelette, grilled eel, and green onions. The rice seemed dry, probably leftover from the previous day. The grilled eel had 7 pieces, which was a decent amount. The texture was soft and the meat was thick, almost like freshwater eel. However, considering the price of 850 yen, the quality was decent. - Iced coffee: I had iced coffee to finish the meal, which was decent. Overall, for 850 yen, including the drink bar, it was not bad. However, I was disappointed with the lukewarm and weak dashi. They offer delicious dishes at night, but since they are only run by three staff members during lunch, they cannot offer the full dinner menu. The sign says "A delicious restaurant for mackerel and gyoza," so I think it would be great if they included lunch menus with those items. But I understand it might be difficult due to the chefs' schedules and labor costs. Thank you for the meal! (As of September 26, 2017, no points given)
