As soon as it opened, Torimasa became a popular restaurant and reservations became difficult to get. Finally, I was able to go! It's located just a few minutes walk from Kitahama Station. It's in a building opposite Soba Dozanjin and the popular Chinese restaurant Hinotori, but the sign is not visible from outside, so it's easy to get lost if you don't know. I recommend looking it up before going. Inside the restaurant, it's very chic. Although its sister restaurants Ikoka and Kako are also chic, Torimasa has a more upscale adult atmosphere with a semi-circular counter surrounding the grilling area like a stage – it's really lovely. Recently, most delicious yakitori restaurants have courses that cost over 10,000 yen, but here the course is only 6,000 yen!! The course includes: - Sasami Konbu-zuke (chicken tenderloin marinated in kelp) sashimi, which I'm not usually a fan of, but the marination gives it a nice texture and flavor, especially with ponzu sauce. - Kishu duck with crispy skin and rare meat, which is delicious to chew on. - Yuba (tofu skin) soup with chicken, a warm and elegant dish. - Various grilled items such as chicken tenderloin with wasabi, quail, and tsunagi (chicken meatball). Each item has a different level of doneness and unique flavor. - Yamaimo (mountain yam) with a crunchy texture. - Thick tofu, which is amazing. - Shirako (milt) served on a plate, which is plump and tasty. - Tsukune (chicken meatball), snap peas, chicken breast with ponzu sauce, seseri (chicken neck), and sankaku (chicken breast cartilage). - For the final dish, you can choose between chicken tea rice or ramen. I chose the chicken tea rice, which was flavorful and delicious. The course starts with light dishes and gradually becomes more savory, returning to light flavors towards the end, building up to a fantastic finish. The grilling is done perfectly. They asked if I wanted any additional items, but the course was already filling enough, so I couldn't order more, which was a bit regrettable. All of this for just 6,000 yen...the quality and luxury experience you get at this price point is amazing.
