The Waseda University Waseda Campus cafeteria is located along a main road, making it easily accessible for the general public without having to enter the campus. The interior is small and doesn't have a typical cafeteria feel. When I visited around 2pm, there were only a few students and people who seemed to be related to the school, so it wasn't crowded. I purchased a ticket for the standard curry rice in medium size for 260 yen, and it was ready in about a minute. The curry wasn't spicy at all, just a simple and typical cafeteria style curry rice. There's nothing particularly outstanding about it, but for 260 yen, it's really cheap for a cafeteria meal.

Grandzaka Gakushoku is very compact and has standing eating seats as well. This time, I had the Five-Ingredient Chinese Rice Bowl for 350 yen. The Chinese rice bowl had a strong thickness, with ingredients such as carrots, broccoli, and meat even in the small size. The taste is stable as it is a cooperative dining hall.

The Waseda Station on the Toden Arakawa Line is located in the middle of Shin-Mejiro Street. When you exit the ticket gate and cross the road to the right, you will come across a vegetable shop at the first intersection diagonally to the right. This shop is located up Grandzaka Street, near Waseda University, and is operated by the cooperative. It has a traditional atmosphere, unlike the modern and stylish university cafeterias that have become common. Although it is relatively small in size for a university cafeteria, it seems to be sufficient as it is located away from the main campus where students mainly use it. While there are other cafeterias at Waseda University, this one caught my eye as it is along the way. On the day I visited, there were not many students around as it was a lull period after entrance exams. I decided to go in as there were empty tables and it seemed like a good opportunity. I ordered the following:
- Curry Rice (medium) for 260 yen
- Kake Udon (medium) for 220 yen
I bought the meal tickets from the vending machine and then went to the order counter in front of the kitchen. The menu was typical of a university cafeteria, with curry and udon being common choices. I was a bit unsure about the order in which to line up for the dishes, but I managed to receive my food. I sat at a corner table to avoid disturbing the students and enjoyed my meal. The curry and udon were as expected, nothing outstanding but also no major negatives. The cafeteria serves its purpose of providing a cheap and convenient lunch option for students. It was a pleasant experience to revisit the atmosphere of a university cafeteria after a long time.

This day was a business trip to Takadanobaba. Whenever I come to Takadanobaba, I always end up trying out the Waseda University cafeteria. This time, I visited this place. It's a cafeteria located behind the Co-op purchasing office on Grandzaka Street, hence the name of the place. It has been around for 20 years. Even back then, it was quite a niche place due to its location. The shop is small in size. I was surprised to see that it was still there. There are low tables and low counter seats in the front, and high tables and high counter seats in the back. There is also a washbasin, a hot water dispenser, and a place for salad dressings. The menu consists of rice dishes and noodle dishes. Therefore, there are only two counters. (Although there were only three staff members sharing the space, so it's practically like one counter.) Buy a meal ticket and hand it over at the counter. - Torotama Salmon Donburi (Trout Salmon used): ¥540 (tax included) This is the only seafood dish in the rice category. So, I decided to try this. First, the portion size. Both the salmon and rice were more generous than expected, so it's quite filling. This place definitely targets students. And this dish is incredibly delicious. The salmon seems to be slightly pounded, with a mix of fatty and lean parts. When combined with the torotama (soft-boiled egg), it becomes even more creamy. I couldn't tell which was creamier. And the rice. It's a bit of a letdown that the rice was served hot. But the sprinkled white sesame seeds added a nice fragrance and a crispy texture, enhancing the overall flavor. I regret not ordering soup on the side. It's nice to see that this place still retains its hidden gem vibe. It's perfect for a meal while shopping at the Co-op. Visit Date: March 21, 2017

Noodles: The noodles are normal, without much firmness or fragrance.
Soup: The soup is a strong soy sauce and bonito flavor.
Tempura: The tempura is fluffy with a slightly burnt taste.
Others: Spinach and green onions.
This was my 150th bowl of soba, from a shop at Waseda University. The shop had a nostalgic feel, and they served a soft-boiled egg in the soup, which was a nice touch. I wish I could have tried it with a raw egg. So far, I have spent a total of 68,280 yen on my soba adventures. Thank you for the meal.

The team went to Oma Garden House for an early lunch, but it was closed due to construction during summer vacation. They used the "Been There, Want to Go" feature and ended up at a cafeteria operated by the co-op in a building adjacent to the campus. The cafeteria also had special summer hours, so they had to wait until it opened. They ordered the curry rice, which had a mild spiciness suitable for everyone, with carrots, pork, and onions as ingredients. The portion of rice was generous, as expected from a university cafeteria.

Co-op cafeteria located to the right of the headquarters staircase. The interior is quite small and the facilities are old. However, they offer a variety of affordable menu items like 180 yen buckwheat noodles and a greedy set for 300 yen. It was quite handy, especially when busy. I think I used it more often than Okuma Cafeteria. The taste is so-so, but it has its charm. It's a hidden gem, but it gets crowded during lunchtime, so I recommend going in the evening. The open kitchen allows you to see a few middle-aged women working together efficiently to serve customers, which left a lasting impression.
