I went to the restaurant in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for lunch with my colleagues. Today's set meal was fried chicken. You can choose the amount of rice. The fried chicken comes with four pieces, along with salad and tomatoes. The fried chicken is very crispy, with a strong taste of garlic and ginger. You can also enjoy the texture of the meat. You can change the flavor with the mayonnaise and lemon provided. I ate the fried chicken with rice and miso soup. It was very delicious.

Today, I went to the cafeteria of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for the first time in a while. I ordered the deep-fried whale lunch set. After waiting for about 15 minutes, it was served, I paid at the register, and sat down to eat. The deep-fried whale was very tender and delicious with a generous portion. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Chiyoda, Tokyo on October 10, 2018. They had a great deal on their menu that day - the "Beef Tongue Set Meal" for only 700 yen. I was surprised by the quality and thickness of the beef tongue at such a low price. I thought it might taste bad or be thin, but it was delicious. The seasoning was just right and the texture of the tongue was perfect. This set meal was definitely worth it and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food at a government office cafeteria. I highly recommend it!

I had a seafood bowl at the first cafeteria "Northern Land", it was not very crowded and was cheap yet delicious. It was a bit disappointing that the self-service soy sauce was leaking.

I had a maguro katsu set meal on the basement floor. The taste was better than I expected! The coating was crispy and the meat was juicy. After that, the security became stricter and only staff could go downstairs. But it's a memorable taste for me. It seems like they serve alcohol at night with a variety of appetizers on the menu.

I had to visit due to work reasons. Since I was there, I decided to enjoy the company cafeteria, where they were having a Hokkaido Fair. I ordered a chirashi sushi, which was quite satisfying. It had sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, crab, and three slices of salmon. It was very delicious. Truly impressive kitchen that caters to the people of that country. Well done!

Located right near Tokyo Metro Kasumigaseki Station in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, is the staff cafeteria "Hokkaido" on the basement floor of the Central Government Building No. 1, where the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is located. I visited on June 21, 2018. Since the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries deals with food, I thought the cafeteria must serve delicious food! I ordered the "Weekly Donburi for 530 yen," which featured chicken soboro on the day I visited. I love chicken soboro, so I had to try it. The taste was simple but homey and comforting. It wasn't amazingly delicious, but it was decent. Maybe it's just my imagination, but the rice seemed particularly tasty, probably due to the Ministry's reputation. The portion size was reasonable, and the cost performance was excellent. This is what a staff cafeteria should be like! Bon appétit!

This time with my colleagues again. It's just before noon. During lunch break, staff members flock to the ticket machine, creating a line. This time I chose the weekly special bowl. Chicken teriyaki bowl for 530 yen including tax, which is a one-coin plus a little extra. It consists of grilled chicken thighs and breasts, a decently sized cut. Served with shredded omelette and pickled ginger. Plus plenty of rice and miso soup. There's also a small macaroni salad. It's satisfying in terms of portion size, but I think I preferred the pork cutlet curry I had last time.

At noon on a regular day, I went with a colleague to the staff cafeteria located on the basement floor of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries building. You need permission or be a staff member to use it. The system is similar to a typical school or company cafeteria. You buy a ticket from the vending machine, hand it over at the counter, and wait with your tray. There are samples displayed in front of the vending machine, showing the menu along with the food self-sufficiency rate, unique to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. I chose the pork cutlet curry because it looked good. Other options included two daily set meals, a weekly rice bowl (tempura rice bowl at the time), ramen, soba, and Chinese rice bowl. Additionally, there is a seafood shop attached, offering seafood bowls and tuna bowls. The pork cutlet curry was priced at 650 yen, tax included. When I received it, I was surprised. It looked almost exactly like the sample on a large wooden plate. Although not shown in the sample, it also came with seaweed soup. The curry was typical of a large cafeteria, but the pork cutlet was surprisingly large. It was thin but big. It also came with a salad, making it a good value for money. It's not a place you would specifically go for, but it was an interesting cafeteria.

This time, I had a meeting in Kasumigaseki, Tokyo. The meeting was scheduled from morning till evening, with a lunch break in between. We were deciding where to have lunch, and usually we go to a nice restaurant in Toranomon, but this time I felt like trying something different. We talked about how each government ministry has its own cafeteria, so I decided to check out the one at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. To enter the building, I had to show my ID at the reception and write down my destination to get an entry pass. I wrote "cafeteria" as my destination and was allowed in. When I went down to the cafeteria, there was a long line at the ticket counter. Since the line was moving quickly, I decided to wait and quickly reached the ticket machine. There were many people waiting behind me, so I didn't have time to carefully choose my meal and ended up getting the daily special lunch. It looked like the photo attached. The simmered flounder was decently tasty. However, considering the expectations from the name "Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries," it was just average. The most notable thing was the cost performance. It was quite affordable for a lunch in the heart of the city. Daily special lunch for 600 yen. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the employee cafeteria at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for lunch! It was crowded with people, probably because it's a staff cafeteria. I placed my order with the staff, received my whale steak, and also got to choose two side dishes as it was a set meal. The miso soup was prepared by the staff using a hot water dispenser. The menu was called "Iwashi Whale Steak", but it's actually a type of whale called Iwashi Kujira, not a combination of sardine and whale. It had a firm texture with less fat. It was served with green onions and ginger, but my breath smelled like whale afterwards. The taste was average for a cafeteria. I had heard that the rice was delicious, but it was nothing special. My companion had the vegetable curry, which looked delicious with lots of vegetables, so I might try that next time!

After seeing a post about whale meat on a foodie's blog, I got curious and did some research online. I found an article promoting whale meat by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, so I decided to have lunch there right away. The restaurant is located just to the right of a soba shop at the front entrance. I ordered the whale steak set meal, which came with plenty of green onions and a salt sauce with ginger on the side. The rice is delicious, and I heard you can also change it to barley rice. It was funny to see a poster of the author of "The Lonely Gourmet" and a "Protect Japanese Food Culture" banner from "Oishinbo" hanging there. (σ≧∀≦)σ

2014.8.7 Revisit (Kasumigaseki Tour Day) We visited on Kasumigaseki Tour Day. Unfortunately, we arrived late and the lunch bowls were sold out, so we had to settle for a tuna bowl. It was a bit plain compared to the previous restaurant, and the rice was not vinegared... a bit disappointing. Where did the foreign sushi chef go? 2014.7.23 Revisit (Grand Reopening) Sometimes the cafeterias in government offices change vendors. Today, this cafeteria reopened with a new vendor. The menu has a very sophisticated feel. The staff are even dressed in restaurant-style uniforms (black aprons), making you wonder if this is really the Ministry of Agriculture's cafeteria. Unfortunately, I don't have time to report on the taste today. 2014.3 First Visit During a lunch break in Kasumigaseki for work, I visited the cafeteria in the Ministry of Agriculture. While central government cafeterias each have their own unique features, the cafeteria in the Ministry of Agriculture in Building 1 is where you can always enjoy sushi. While you can also find sushi in Building 2 or the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry annex, for authentic sushi, the Ministry of Agriculture is the place to go. After receiving an entry card at the entrance and heading downstairs, I found the sushi menu along with the display of food self-sufficiency rate. I tried the daily special, tuna bowl, and nigiri sushi for comparison. I think the sushi you can enjoy in the employee cafeteria during lunchtime is delicious. The sushi chef seems to be a foreigner, and I'm curious about where they are from.

During the children's visit to Kasumigaseki Day, the lunch we had at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries was here. The nigiri sushi from the staff cafeteria cost 950 yen. To be honest, it wasn't delicious... It had a feeling of being pre-made... Even though we ordered nigiri sushi... I thought it would be even more delicious because it was at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries... It was disappointing. The tuna bowls and daily specials that my wife and children had weren't that delicious either. The menu was extensive, with not only sushi but also ramen, curry, etc., so those might be delicious. Personally, I was drawn to Yoshida Udon.
