I had some business at Takashimaya in Nihonbashi and stumbled upon it while wandering around the basement. I had heard about Eitaro's Ichiraku Manbai Mochi before, and luckily found it for the first time. I purchased it and found the small round mochi to be very cute, with a refined sweetness to the filling. Since it is a lucky charm mochi, I enjoyed it very much.

Eitaro is known for their Eitaro candy, but they also have a great selection of traditional Japanese sweets. I came across their products at the basement floor of Nihonbashi Takashimaya and decided to try them out. I purchased Mitarashi dango for 238 yen and Nishikawa Daifuku (red bean paste) for 357 yen. Both the Mitarashi dango and Daifuku had very firm and chewy mochi, which personally I didn't prefer as I like softer mochi. The Mitarashi sauce was delicious, and the red bean paste inside the Daifuku was not too sweet, with a smooth and creamy texture. I just wished the mochi was a bit softer. The Daifuku came in white, red, and green varieties, with options of chunky red bean paste, smooth red bean paste, and mugwort rice cake with chunky red bean paste. I also noticed a unique dango with bonito flakes on the side, which caught my attention. I had visited their cafe in Nihonbashi before and remembered how delicious their red bean paste in the Anmitsu dessert was, so I believe their specialty lies in their red bean paste. I would love to visit their cafe again in the future.

This shop is famous for its canned candies, and they also offer rice cakes as well. I remember purchasing from here before, although it wasn't listed on Tabelog. This time, I was drawn to their limited edition rice cake sweets, which are bite-sized and filled with delicate red bean paste. The combination of chewy rice cake and savory bonito-flavored red bean paste was enjoyable. The daifuku rice cakes were also carefully made, with a firm texture that may vary depending on personal preference.

My husband said he's had enough of wagashi, but anmitsu is a different story. The matcha syrup and amaou strawberries are sure to be delicious. And the Nihonbashi limited edition dorayaki from Takashimaya is a must-try. This one has a honey lemon flavor, with a subtle lemon aftertaste that is refreshing and delicious. Even though my husband said he was tired of dorayaki, he might want to eat this one again. Nihonbashi Takashimaya is amazing.

I passed by on Sunday evening and saw a daifuku, so I bought one for a snack. I was worried that the mochi might be hard because it was evening, but it was very soft and moist! The mochi skin was thin, and the filling was chunky red bean paste with a slightly watery texture, making the daifuku very soft and delicious. The sweet black beans were large and tender, adding a gentle sweetness after the red bean paste. The slightly salty mochi and the sweetness of the fillings made it a delightful treat. It was small in size, and I finished it quickly. It was very tasty, but at 270 yen per piece, I found it a bit pricey. The taste was really delicious!!

First visit in 202201 (No.3344) I picked up one item at the Nihonbashi Takashimaya event, but came here to pick up another item. This is a long-established Japanese confectionery store that started when "Eitaro," who sold the famous "big, sweet, and delicious" "Kan Tsuba" at Nihonbashi (currently Nihonbashi) in 1857 (Ansei 4). I have purchased the "Takadono" that can only be obtained at the main store and the seasonal product "Watermelon Manju," but I have not purchased the founding product "Kan Tsuba." Therefore, in order to understand the origin of this store, I purchased the following products: Imo Kan Tsuba 238 yen & Meiji Kan Tsuba 238 yen. These are the winter limited edition "Imo Kan Tsuba" with sweet potatoes, and the standard "Meiji Kan Tsuba." Normally, when you say "Kan Tsuba," it refers to a square shape, but these products are round in the shape of a sword guard "Tsuba." The method of wrapping sweet bean paste with thinly stretched wheat dough, shaping it into a round shape, and baking it with fragrant sesame oil has remained unchanged from the Edo period to the present day. When you taste it, the dough is indeed thin, making it a delicious product. Thank you for the meal.

Eitairo Main Store / Edo-style Mochi Sweet Potato ☑︎ 231kcal per 100g ☑︎ 157kcal per 68g I always end up eating Edo-style mochi when seasonal flavors come out... I would love it if they made flavors like pumpkin, purple sweet potato, and sake lees! The round shape is cute and perfectly smooth, with no rough edges. Even after storing at room temperature for a day, the mochi didn't harden and had a nice bounce to it, making it easy to eat. It's not overwhelmingly sticky like Domyoji mochi, but still a bit difficult to cut with a knife. The sweet potato filling has a refined sweetness, with a gentle sweet potato flavor that becomes more pronounced with each bite. It's not the artificial sweetness of sweet potato, but a natural sweetness that makes it easy to eat. The combination of sweet potato filling and mochi is perfect.

On March 7, 2020, I visited the underground food court at Nihonbashi Takashimaya, where there were various sweets to choose from. Feeling in the mood for traditional Japanese flavors, I decided to try some Japanese sweets from one of the shops there. I love daifuku, so I bought four pieces to share with three friends. They were made with black beans and cooked perfectly. The size was slightly larger than usual, so they were quite filling. I really enjoyed the daifuku from a reputable shop.

My family will also celebrate Hinamatsuri tomorrow, so I decided to buy some sakuramochi to celebrate Girls' Day in spirit. There were two types available, red and white, and I chose the red one this time. I also bought some grass mochi that I couldn't get last time. The grass mochi had a spring-like texture and fragrance due to the remaining fibers of the mugwort. There are still many more things I want to try, so I will definitely visit again.

I tried buying Sakura Mochi that reminds me of mountain cherry blossoms, as well as one-letter and Kusamochi and Kintsuba. There are two types of Sakura Mochi here, Do-Myouji and two types, so I was torn. My family prefers the Kanto-style, so the thin-skinned, sticky Sakura Mochi left a lingering deliciousness that makes me want to repeat. There was only one Kusamochi, so I used Kintsuba as a substitute. I divided it with my family, and I had Kintsuba. It was refreshing to eat with a moderate sweetness red bean paste and tea. There are other things that I'm interested in, so I'd like to purchase them again. I feel refreshed after eating something sweet. Thank you for the meal.

There are seasonal dorayaki too. I didn't notice them much before, but it's fun to see seasonal limited edition versions. At Takashimaya, they have strawberry dorayaki now. It's made with amaou strawberries, which have a strong appeal. Let's try it. It has a fruity taste, but the red bean paste is still strong. It's a chunky paste, not completely mashed. It's not too sweet and has a refined taste. I wonder what will be next - looking forward to it.

When I passed by the store on my way home and saw the black honey kinako mochi, I couldn't resist and bought it even though it was a bit pricey. I thought it would be delicious coming from Eitairo. I forgot to take a picture at the store, so I don't know the exact name of the product. When I ate it with black honey drizzled on top, the combination of black honey and kinako was amazing. The kinako was not gritty like in traditional kinako mochi, but more like smooth sweet bean paste. It was my first time experiencing this texture, and I really enjoyed it. If I were to eat black honey kinako mochi again, I might prefer the one from Mochijin in Ota Ward. If there is something else that catches my eye, I would definitely like to try it.

I visited a shop located in Nihonbashi Takashimaya. This time, I tried their dorayaki and kintsuba. Both of them were quite heavy on the sweet red bean paste filling. These two traditional Japanese sweets are known for their strong sweetness and dense texture, but they felt particularly heavy this time. The dorayaki had a dry and thick outer layer, with a very dense and sweet filling, making it overall quite overwhelming. The kintsuba was also very sweet, with a strong aftertaste due to the high concentration of red bean paste and sesame seeds. It felt too sweet to be used as a tea snack, so I would give it a lower rating.

In March 2021, I was looking for a souvenir for my wife at the Takashimaya department store's basement food section. After browsing through various Western sweets and rice crackers, I finally found some grilled dumplings topped with plenty of chopped seaweed at Eitaro's shop. These grilled dumplings in the style of "isobe" are my wife's favorite. Along with those, I also picked up some standard mitarashi dumplings with plenty of chopped bonito flakes on top. I returned home around 3 o'clock and my wife brewed some tea. She, as usual, said she wouldn't eat them because she'd gain weight. So, I happily ate them by myself. The mitarashi dumplings had a nice balance of sweet sauce and bonito flavor, while the isobe-style dumplings had a strong seaweed taste that slightly overpowered the grilled dumpling flavor at first. But after a few bites, the grilled dumpling flavor became more pronounced and enjoyable. We had a pleasant snack time together. As for dinner, we only had ratatouille and potato salad because we had eaten too much earlier. Tomorrow morning, my wife will make her homemade potato salad sandwiches. I'm looking forward to it!

I love the candy at Eitaro because it's delicious! There are many types of candy that are not available at the local department store, which makes me very interested. I chose the strawberry tea candy because I can buy it locally! The tin is cute, affordable, and makes me happy♪

This shop sells various candies, which are great for treating yourself or as gifts for others. The candies come in a tin can that can be reused after you finish them, which is a nice touch. My favorite flavors are milk and plum, although the plum flavor is not actually plum-flavored. The candies have a simple and nostalgic taste to them. The shop also offers a variety of rice cakes that look delicious. This time, I only bought candies, but I would like to try the rice cakes next time!

I tried the famous Eitaro Sohonten's Umeboshi Ame at the basement floor of Nihonbashi Takashimaya. These candies are shaped like turtle shells and come in red and yellow colors, sparkling and shining. They have an elegant sweetness and a traditional, gentle flavor that melts in your mouth. Nowadays, they offer various flavors like black sugar, matcha, black tea, throat lozenges, and fruit juice candies, allowing you to enjoy a variety of tastes. Thank you for the meal.
