The lingering summer heat is still strong, but autumn flavors like Mont Blanc are already available. I visited the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi B1F event space to purchase the Suzaku Mont Blanc from Kobuse-do, which I indulge in once a year. Although a friend works at the main store of Kobuse-do, they did not attend the event at Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi this time. The richness of the chestnut paste made with Kobuse chestnuts, combined with the sponge, cassis sauce, and whipped cream inside, is truly overwhelming and delicious. Despite the price of 2,700 yen, which could buy a whole decorated cake, the taste is worth it. I also feel like visiting Kobuse-do's main store to try their Mont Blanc Suzaku with ice cream in the cream section.

Today, I visited the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, and tried the "Suzaku Mont Blanc" from Kobusedo at the food collection eat-in area. I ordered the "Suzaku Mont Blanc (¥2,750)" and "Chestnut Ice Cream (¥550)" upon arrival. The beautiful Suzaku Mont Blanc arrived along with the chestnut ice cream with chestnut cake, and I dug in. The Suzaku Mont Blanc, made with freshly squeezed chestnut paste, sponge cake, blackcurrant, whipped cream, and chestnuts, was incredibly delicious. But what surprised me the most was the chestnut ice cream. It had a rich chestnut flavor that paired perfectly with the chestnut cake. Enjoying them together was simply delightful.

When I visited the main store in Nagano before, I regretted not being able to buy Suzaku. With information from MyRevi, I found out that I could reserve it at Mitsukoshi Online Store for store pickup! I quickly made a reservation and got two Suzaku (@2160 yen) in hand. The paper bag handed to me was heavy! "Be careful as it is fragile," they said. I carried it home slowly. When I opened the paper bag at home, I saw two giant Mont Blancs covered with a dome-shaped transparent cup. They were the biggest Mont Blancs I've ever seen, 8 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter. After dinner, we enjoyed them. At the bottom, there was a very thin cookie dough. Sponge cake, whipped cream, and a few fresh blueberries, all to enhance the Japanese chestnut. There was also chestnut paste in the center of the cream. The slightly dry texture of that Japanese chestnut. A large amount of Japanese chestnut was squeezed out. Its fragrance and the natural sweetness of the Japanese chestnut were brought out. Sharing half with another person was just right. We also enjoyed it the next morning. I had heard that there were quite a lot of raspberries and they were too strong, so I was a little surprised. Is it different every time? Has it been improved? A pleasant miscalculation. It was a satisfying feast of Japanese chestnut.

I made a reservation and tried the Suzaku Mont Blanc. The Suzaku Mont Blanc is a fluffy chestnut paste dessert with a refined flavor. Inside, there is whipped cream and a surprisingly large cassis sauce that adds a sweet and sour accent to the taste. The base dough and sponge do not overpower the chestnut flavor and subtly complement it. Initially, I was surprised by the size, but it was truly delicious. The chestnut flavor was very prominent.

Among chestnut lovers, the famous Mont Blanc "Suzaku" from "Kobuse-do" is well-known. Last autumn, I finally visited Kobuse in Nagano prefecture for the first time. However, I couldn't eat the Suzaku Mont Blanc from Kobuse-do. I heard that it sells out quickly as soon as reservations open in the summer, and one year passed. One day in September, I happened to be wandering around the depachika of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, and I was drawn to the Kobuse-do section even though I had no intention of buying anything. Being a chatterbox, I told the salesgirl that I couldn't eat Suzaku last year, and she told me that I could receive it at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi through mail order. Reservations are apparently only available online, so I mustered up my determination on the reservation day and got it. By the way, the offering period for Suzaku in 2022 is from 9/10 (Sat) to 10/16 (Sun), and reservations at the main store started in August. I received it today and immediately tried it at home. The Mont Blancs sold at Kobuse-do seem to be divided into four ranks (see photo). The one I got this time was the Suzaku Mont Blanc for 2,160 yen. I'm not sure what the difference is (laughs). ❶ Mont Blanc ❷ Suzaku Mont Blanc ❸ Mont Blanc Suzaku ❹ Suzaku ■ Impression First of all, it's huge! (laughs) It's even bigger than a convenience store meat bun, about the size of the Mont Blanc I had at "Restaurant Sakaki" the other day (laughs). This is impossible for one person, but just right for two. And when you cut it in half with a knife, the thickness of the chestnut paste is no joke. See the detailed composition in the photo. When you eat it, the chestnut cream is not too sweet, with the full flavor of chestnuts, and it is indeed delicious. It is a Mont Blanc from a traditional Japanese confectionery shop that specializes in chestnuts, and it is different from the Mont Blancs from cake shops.

On the day I went to eat cloud cake in Nihonbashi, I received a ticket and decided to pass the time by visiting the nearby Mitsukoshi department store. The lion statue at the storefront was not wearing a mask. Since it's easy to get heatstroke in the summer, it's okay not to wear a mask outside if you're not talking. When I searched for store-exclusive sweets at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, I found Kobuse-do, a chestnut confectionery store from the chestnut-producing town of Kobuse-cho, Nagano Prefecture. Their store-exclusive item at the Nihonbashi branch is Lion Chestnut Anko Senbei. It's a senbei shaped like a lion filled with "chestnut anko". The senbei and anko are separated so you can make and eat the senbei at your own pace. I bought the Lion Chestnut Anko Senbei and also a can of Kurikano-Ko mini-size, which is a chestnut paste in a can. The Lion Chestnut Anko Senbei costs 1,080 yen and contains the senbei shells for two lions and a can of chestnut anko. The lion's nose was a bit crushed but still had a dignified look, and the tail on the back was lovely. The chestnut paste from the can was thick and had a chestnut aroma. I scooped some with a spoon and tasted it. Oh, it's chestnut. Not very sweet though. I then filled the senbei with the chestnut paste. Since the lions were too big, I could only fill one side with the chestnut paste. The senbei shell was crispy and delicious, but I wished the chestnut paste was sweeter. It's a bit expensive for two senbei at 1,000 yen, but it's understandable considering it's made of chestnuts and shaped like a lion, and it's a store-exclusive item. The Kurikano-Ko mini-size costs 535 yen and contains a soft chestnut paste with three small chestnuts in it. It's sweet and has a honey-like sweetness with a chestnut aroma, making it very tasty. It's made only with chestnuts and sugar, which explains its long shelf life of about a year. It's definitely better than eating mediocre chestnut paste, and it's worth trying. The total payment was 1,614 yen. Kobuse-do is a great place for chestnut lovers. Although their Mont Blanc Suzaku is famous, I was more than satisfied with the Kurikano-Ko. The mini-size I bought weighs 80 grams and costs 535 yen. They also have a large size with 430 grams for 2,376 yen. The staff were friendly and even gave me some complimentary rakugan, which was delicious and disappeared quickly when I ate it. It was a delightful meal. I'm done with the Lion Senbei, but if I come across Kobuse-do again, I would definitely buy some chestnut sweets.

I tried the famous Shujaku Mont Blanc from Kobushi-Do and was impressed by the deliciousness of the chestnut flavor. I found out about the shop because of their ice cream. I was curious about their Mont Blanc, so I made a reservation for a limited-time order at Niigata Isetan. When it arrived, I was surprised by its size and weight. The Mont Blanc was about 8 cm in diameter, much larger than I expected. The chestnut flavor was rich and delicious, but the portion was quite large. I struggled to finish it towards the end. I thought that a smaller size might have been easier to enjoy until the last bite, but perhaps the large size has its own appeal.

How many times has it been now? A must-have for the chestnut lover, the chestnut sweets from "Kobuse-do." "Kobuse-do" is like a sacred place for chestnut lovers. Kobuse-do Chestnut Cake (300 yen) & Chestnut Cake Chocolat (320 yen) both excluding tax.
The "Chestnut Cake" has a large chestnut surrounded by chestnut paste. The double play of chestnuts in this cake is unmatched in deliciousness. Both the chestnut and chestnut paste are delicious without any complaints. The dough is rich with the use of almond powder. 361 kcal.
The "Chestnut Cake Chocolat" seems to be a limited edition. I bought it for my husband since it was my first time seeing it. (I'm not a fan of chocolate dough...) When I asked for his feedback, he said, "This is good too!" 383 kcal.
Of course, I will be a repeat customer again~ ^^

My family discovered the limited edition Shinshu-do at Mitsukoshi! We purchased the Suzaku Mont Blanc. It seems different from the Mont Blanc Suzaku we had in Kobuse last year. According to the description, it is made with a tart topped with a combination of astringent chestnuts, two types of cream, chestnut paste, sponge cake, and whipped cream, with additional chestnut paste on top. The chestnut paste here is simply irresistible, with the natural sweetness of the chestnuts. As September begins, Tokyo is filled with cool breezes. This is the ultimate dessert. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I searched for the Mont Blanc from Kobushi-do Temple and found out that the Suzaku Mont Blanc can be purchased at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store from late August to early September for a limited time. Even though I had other plans that day, I went there early in the morning to make sure I could get it before it sold out, but was informed that reservations were required while I was making the purchase. Unfortunately, the Suzaku Mont Blanc broke while I was carrying it around. However, even though the shape was ruined, the taste was still delicious. I purchased both the regular Mont Blanc and the Suzaku Mont Blanc. The regular Mont Blanc had a strong chestnut flavor, making me want to have more, and the pure chestnut taste was clearly enjoyable. The Suzaku Mont Blanc was a different type from what you can get at the Kobushi-do Temple store, and it had chestnuts and fresh cream inside.

By the end of August, it's the season to enjoy the "Suzaku Mont Blanc" from Kobuse-do in Tokyo. This year, an event called "~Summer Farewell, Autumn Welcome~" is being held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store from August 25th (Wed) to August 31st, where you can purchase Kobuse-do's chestnut sweets. I went to buy the "Suzaku Mont Blanc" this weekend. Due to a recent COVID-19 case in the department store's food section, the live demonstration and eat-in services were cancelled, and only product sales were allowed. The event is taking place on the food floor of the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, with a dedicated sales area set up separately from Kobuse-do's usual booth. Apart from the "Suzaku Mont Blanc," there are 9 other chestnut sweets available during the event until August 31st. Additionally, a new event called "~Welcoming Autumn~ Enjoying Autumn Flavors" will be held from September 1st (Wed) to September 7th (Tue), allowing you to continue purchasing chestnut sweets. Some of the items for sale include chestnut jelly, chestnut kanten tart, chestnut kanten cake, and chestnut mini cake. Unfortunately, the eat-in space that was supposed to be available was also cancelled. When I visited the event at opening time, there were only 5 people in line, which was quite different from the long queues seen last year. I was able to purchase the "Suzaku Mont Blanc" without any issues and decided to keep it in a refrigerated locker until I returned home in the evening. Upon returning home, I enjoyed the "Suzaku Mont Blanc" as an afternoon snack. This season's packaging is a round dome-shaped container, which adds to the excitement of unwrapping the cake. The Mont Blanc has a slightly oval shape when viewed from the top, due to the double layering of chestnut cream. The chestnut cream is rich and flavorful, with a traditional appearance that differs from the more modern piped designs. The chestnut flavor is prominent, with a balanced sweetness and a slightly increased amount of cassis compared to last year. The tart crust was moist and lacked a crispy texture, which was a slight downside. Overall, it was a delightful treat that allowed me to savor the taste of chestnuts.

First visit in August 2021 (No.2907). I was in the Nihonbashi area to gather material for my blog, so I decided to visit this place to buy some Japanese-style sweets. "Obusedo" in Kobushi, Kamitakai District, Nagano Prefecture, was established in the mid to late Meiji era in 1923. Although it has a long history, it is best known for its "Kuri no Tenshin Suzaku," which requires lining up early in the morning during the peak chestnut season. I didn't have the time or money to go all the way to Nagano and line up early in the morning, but I purchased the following items as I had previously tried their "Suzaku Mont Blanc" in Shinjuku and it was delicious: Kuri Kanoko Cake - 1296 yen. It is a pound cake with chestnuts at the bottom, and while it was delicious, it wasn't something I would crave to eat again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Mitsukoshi in Nihonbashi for shopping. After finishing my shopping, I had some time left so I strolled through the basement floor of the department store and found something interesting! I visited the "Kobuse-do" store in Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi. I saw this and it caught my attention. It said it was a limited-time offer, so I asked until when they were selling it and they said today was the last day. As soon as I heard that, I said, "I'll take one!" (laughs) The sale for July ends today, but it seems they will be selling it again from August 11th to 24th. So, I bought the Mont Blanc and took it home - "Mont Blanc" for 600 yen. Kobuse-do is famous for its "Suzaku Mont Blanc," but this one is a simple Western-style Mont Blanc made with domestic chestnuts. It consists of chestnut paste, whipped cream, and sponge cake only. The flavor and aroma of chestnuts are prominent, and you can also taste a hint of bitterness. It is sweet but not overpowering, with a clean sweetness that doesn't interfere with the chestnut flavor. The chestnut paste is delicious, and even when eaten with the whipped cream, the robust chestnut flavor shines through. The sponge cake has a smooth and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The regular Mont Blanc is delicious, but I wonder how intense the chestnut flavor is in the Suzaku Mont Blanc! I would like to try that too. As mentioned earlier, this Mont Blanc will be available again from August 11th to 24th. Additionally, from August 25th to 31st, you can enjoy the Suzaku Mont Blanc for both retail and eat-in, and from September 1st to 7th, you can enjoy dishes like chestnut rice for eat-in. (These events are also at Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi). If you're interested, please check it out! I also received a bonus of chestnut yokan with the cute "Obuse" letters on it.

It's Kashiwa Mochi Day, so my daughter doesn't like red bean paste, so I buy only for myself this time of year. I also like miso red bean paste, but I wonder what's good? Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi is full of Kashiwa Mochi, so I wandered around three times before deciding. I bought Kashiwa Mochi with chestnuts from Obuse, and also a dorayaki. There are proper chestnuts in it, with smooth chestnut paste. The dorayaki is similar, a mix of Japanese and Western sweets. The moist cake-like texture with chestnuts is delicious. The unique Kashiwa Mochi is also quite good.

This is a seasonal limited edition item. My husband bought it for me at Nagano Station before. It has a cherry blossom salt topping that adds to its spring-like feel. It has three layers of cherry blossom-flavored Anmitsu jelly, bavarois, and chestnut paste. It looks beautiful. The cherry blossom Anmitsu jelly is sweet, but you can also strongly feel the cherry blossom aroma. The chestnut paste is particularly delicious, as expected from "Kobusedo." I wanted to eat it by inserting the spoon vertically. "Good fortune for the eyes, good fortune for the mouth" ===========

Kobuse-do * Chestnut An Bavarois Sakura I bought it together with it. Kobuse-do * Chestnut Cake 324 yen How many times have I bought this already? I've eaten it many times, but I always feel like buying it again. Soft chestnut kuri-shibukawa and chestnut paste around it. The secret of its deliciousness lies in this duet of chestnuts. And the dough is a heavy type with almond powder. It seems that only a solid dough like this can stand up to the chestnuts. Absolutely delicious~☆ A masterpiece that even chestnut lovers will be completely satisfied with! ^.^b 361 calories Quite high in calories. Yikes~ (> <)

I can enjoy it alone. Pound cake, my daughter is not interested in chestnuts, and it would be too much for me to eat alone. My friend likes chestnuts but needs to watch her calories. Found it! It comes in a single slice. Chestnut cake, you can taste that delicious flavor from Obuse. The dough is moist, and it's quite well-made as a pound cake. And the chestnut pieces and paste, that Obuse chestnut paste. The chewy chestnut texture with smooth paste, mmm, so happy, this taste is truly unique. It's the perfect size for a snack.

I stopped by the sweet red bean paste expo and couldn't resist picking up this Mont Blanc dessert that looked delicious. It cost 600 yen. The bottom layer is sponge cake, topped with a light cream, and finished with a rich chestnut cream. Every bite was delicious! Even my 3-year-old child enjoyed it so much that they finished it all by themselves. I would definitely want to get it again if I see it at another event.

December 2020. I'm not particularly interested in New Year's dishes, but "Kuri Kinton" is a special exception for me. Last year, I bought some delicious Kuri Kinton from a different store, so this year as well ♫ While browsing the showcase, I came across something called "Osechi Kinton." According to the staff, it is prepared with a clean and simple taste to not interfere with other New Year's dishes. So, I decided to try it (*^▽^*). While waiting to pay, I noticed a fancy scroll-like item called "Housho Kuri." It's even labeled as a "new product." I have a tendency to buy things like this for some reason f^_^; Anyway... Happy New Year~♫ I reached out for the first one... ⚫︎ "Kuri Kinton" Ohhh (*゚∀゚*) It's impossible for it not to be delicious! As the staff mentioned, it is delicately sweet and very tasty. An elegant chestnut paste made with just chestnuts and sugar. Good quality chestnuts are generously included... about 9 pieces, I think? 270g for 1760 yen including tax. With a long shelf life, I will savor it slowly without rushing. ⚫︎ "Housho Kuri" 1080 yen including tax I opened it as if I were reading a fine letter sent from Obuse. It looks like a thin layer of yokan. It seemed like it could be opened by hand, so I peeled it off in a spiral motion. A rich chestnut aroma that feels like chestnuts compressed tightly, and the taste. It's the exact taste of boiled chestnuts that I had in my childhood... cutting it in half and scooping it with a spoon, that taste. Retaining the chestnut texture, it has a rich chestnut flavor and a wave of chestnut flavor that keeps coming back. "I'll have some bitter green tea with this," and that kind of feeling. This is delicious (^O^). The chestnut kinton in Osechi is written as "Kintan." It is said to represent "rising fortune" due to its golden appearance, resembling a lump of gold or a koban coin. I hope this year brings warmth to everyone's hearts (*≧∀≦*)

The shop in the basement of Nihonbashi that sells chestnut sweets from Nagano is appealing with its chestnut paste with whole chestnuts, limited edition Lion Chestnut Monaka, and more. I chose the seasonal Chestnut An Sakura Mochi for 300 yen excluding tax and the Chestnut An Yomogi Mochi for 300 yen. They were packed in a box with a seal indicating the expiration date of the day, and I enjoyed them after dinner. The Sakura Mochi had two salt-pickled cherry blossom leaves sandwiching a luxurious chestnut paste. It's easy to eat it quickly, but if you take your time, you can savor the taste of chestnuts. The Yomogi Mochi is visually appealing with a contrast between yomogi (mugwort) and chestnuts.
