I visited Raanoumi for their soupless tantanmen and mapo tofu. Located in Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto City, the nearest subway station is Imadegawa on the Karasuma Line. I discovered this place after trying their collaboration limited edition "soupless tantanmen" with Menya Nakayoshi on 3/30, and have been following their Twitter ever since. I finally had the chance to visit when they introduced another enticing limited menu item. I ordered the limited quantity stamina-style mapo noodles with soup, extra large size, level 5 spiciness, lunch set, and coriander topping. The regular size is 940 yen, while the large size is 1,040 yen. You can choose spiciness levels from 0.1 to 10, plus extra spicy options, and the lunch set comes with a hot spring egg and rice (all-you-can-eat). This limited menu is available from 5/23 (Mon) to 5/29 (Sun) or 5/31 (Tue), with 10 servings for lunch and 5 for dinner each day. I visited during the lunch period on 5/25 (Wed), arriving about 20 minutes before opening to secure a spot among the limited servings. The dish features the popular stamina soup with mapo topping, which some say is their favorite. The mapo flavor is slightly milder compared to the soupless mapo noodles. The soup is a blend of chicken broth, soy sauce, spicy oil, and mapo topping. The rich and spicy soup combines the stamina ramen with the mapo topping, creating a luxurious flavor profile with a hint of floral fragrance. The mapo topping has a perfect thickness, providing a rich and flavorful taste with a pleasant spiciness. The level 5 spiciness offers a balanced numbing and spicy sensation, making it irresistibly delicious and easy to drink. The noodles are thick, wing-shaped noodles with a chewy and smooth texture that pairs well with the soup. The dish is served with mapo tofu, pork belly, onions, garlic, leeks, pork fat, and a side of hot spring egg and coriander. The mapo tofu has a silky texture with a perfect balance of sweetness and spiciness, while the pork belly and vegetables add a nice crunch and flavor. The garlic provides a fragrant kick, and the pork fat enhances the richness of the dish. Mixing the leftover soup and ingredients with the rice creates a delicious mapo rice dish that complements the meal perfectly. Overall, I was impressed by the unique and delicious flavors of this dish, and I look forward to revisiting to try their regular menu items or the other limited edition "soupless mapo noodles". Next time, I plan to challenge myself with a spiciness level of 6 or higher. PS. I have been a fan of this place since trying Menya Nakayoshi's collaboration limited edition, and I will definitely be returning.
