Visited on February 28, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. This "Torie (Torie) Ueno Hirokoji Store" is a regular at the top 100 yakitori restaurants. There are 3 stores in the vicinity, but only the Ueno Hirokoji store is in the top 100. Made a reservation for 2 people about 10 days ago via TableCheck on the website. Since the course details were not listed, I chose the "Torie Course ¥6,000" when making the reservation. Today, my beloved son No. 1 and I arrived early, but since it was a course reservation, we couldn't enter until the reservation time, so we killed time nearby before visiting. It's a small shop, but even on weekdays, it was full and there were many staff members, which was surprising. We were guided to the counter seats and sat down. The course consists of appetizers, 7 assorted skewers, salad, liver pate, daily special, soup, and dessert. I slightly regretted not choosing the ¥8,000 special course, as the rice and skewer composition seemed different, looking at the additional a la carte menu, my son was interested in the "minced chicken bowl," so we ordered it as an addition. First, we started with drinks. I have hay fever but didn't mind alcohol, so I chose Sapporo Draft Beer Shirahonoka ¥850, while my son, who suffers from severe hay fever, avoided alcohol and chose Coca-Cola ¥450. Cheers! When asked about the composition of the assorted skewers, the staff member wrote down on a memo: "seseri, sekan (kidney), yagen cartilage (served with plum), ginko nuts, furisode (with basil under the skin), quail eggs, tsukune." Since I didn't know the portion sizes, I decided to add skewers later and added the "minced chicken bowl ¥600" and "oyakodon ¥800" to our meal. "Torie" mainly uses "Oyama chicken." The chef's choice was "Awaji Jidori." In the order of the course... ★ Appetizer - Juicy chicken meatball simmered in dashi, a delicious combination of chicken meatballs and dashi ★ Grilled assorted skewers - seseri, sekan (kidney), yagen cartilage (served with plum), ginko nuts, furisode (with basil under the skin), quail eggs, tsukune All were juicy with a perfect medium-rare cooking. Among all the yakitori I've ever had, it was one of the top two in terms of deliciousness. My son enjoyed the seseri so much that he asked to add another one right after finishing the first skewer. When the staff member informed us that the skewers for the course were finished, we requested additional skewers. I ordered "Chef's choice 3 skewers" and my son ordered "seseri, tsukune, skin" for a total of three additional skewers each. ★ Chef's choice 3 skewers - Awaji Jidori's gizzard, Awaji Jidori's breast meat (wrapped in skin with yuzu pepper, with snap peas), Awaji Jidori's chicken wing All were incredibly delicious!! After finishing the additional skewers, we were informed that the last course would be soup and dessert. Huh? The salad and liver pate didn't come, but since it was an omakase course, were they not included today? I checked the menu and reservation site, but as I was wondering, the added "minced chicken bowl" and "oyakodon" along with "chicken soup" were served. We shared and enjoyed the minced chicken bowl and oyakodon, both of which did not disappoint. After finishing our meal, the dessert, "pudding," was served. Although we were already full, we felt a bit awkward when I asked the staff if the salad was not included in today's course. They seemed surprised and asked, "It wasn't served?" They were starting to prepare the salad, even though the closing preparations had already begun, so when I said, "It's okay," they apologized profusely, making me feel even more embarrassed. They deducted the amount for the missing items during payment, which made me feel even more embarrassed. My son and I were both satisfied that we were able to add our favorite items and end up paying less. The yakitori was very delicious. Thank you for the meal.
