This is my second time here. I arrived first and sat alone. It was my first time trying Torikawa and it was deliciously crispy. The music in the restaurant is still nice as always. Overall, I thought that the crispy texture was created by cooking it thoroughly. The chicken was delicious.

I got married. I found the best yakitori of my life. I'm from Fukuoka and have a refined palate for chicken dishes, but the grilling was superb. The 60's-70's rock music playing was just my style! The meat miso sauce on the fried eggplant was incredibly delicious.

Location: Exit the east exit of JR Ryogoku Station and walk through Yokozuna Yokocho in front of you. Pass Lawson convenience store on your right, then turn right. The restaurant is on your left. Store: From the outside, you can't see inside. There is a sign at the entrance indicating that they serve lunch. The lunch menu includes various set meals for 840 yen, and chicken curry for 780 yen, which I think is reasonable. The sign says "SINCE 1934," indicating that it is an established restaurant since 1934. Inside the restaurant, there are counter seats on the left. There is a grill inside the counter, and the kitchen seems to be in the back. Food: I ordered the fried chicken set meal for 840 yen. After a short wait, it arrived. The set meal includes 6 crispy fried chicken pieces, a large amount of cabbage salad, a small plate of spaghetti salad, a normal to generous portion of rice, miso soup, and pickles. I tried the fried chicken right away. The freshly fried chicken is delicious. It was a homely style of fried chicken from a yakitori restaurant, rather than a fancy one. I don't dislike this kind of fried chicken. The rice portion was too much, so I think women or those with small appetites should ask for less rice. It was even too much for me. The miso soup had a poignant touch with the soft wakame seaweed. I don't dislike this kind of miso soup either. I would like to try other menu items as well, of course with half the rice. Beverage: Water is served. Service: A wet towel is also provided. It's still hot due to the lingering summer heat, so it's much appreciated. The host may be the one serving in the dining area. I think there was also someone in the kitchen. I hope this review can be helpful for your restaurant choices.

Yakitori restaurant located in a side street off Yokoami Street in the Ryogoku Station area. The name of the place is a bit old-fashioned, and with "since 1934" on the sign, it seems like it used to be a long-standing establishment that has now been revamped to appeal to a more modern crowd. Similar to the udon dining spot Yoshi in the same Ryogoku area? The sign says "Yakitori Bar" and the interior has a bar-like layout with dim lighting and unique background music (FM radio?). The owner's low-key tone and demeanor might make it a bit intimidating to walk in. I sat at the counter near the entrance and ordered the Chicken Cutlet Set Meal for 840 yen. You can get refills on rice and miso soup. The atmosphere is a bit dark and it's hard to see the other tables due to a pillar, but this might actually be a good thing for social distancing during the pandemic. Surprisingly, the Chicken Cutlet came with a generous serving of mushroom-infused demi-glace sauce, a heaping pile of coleslaw with a thick Chinese dressing, a side dish of boiled komatsuna and fried tofu, pickles, miso soup, plenty of rice, making for a visually appealing set meal. The Chicken Cutlet with demi-glace sauce was a surprise twist, not particularly amazing but still satisfying. You can also mix in the mayonnaise. The miso soup was average, and the rice portion was already quite large, so I didn't ask for refills, but I left feeling full. Payment is cash only. The dim atmosphere may be a bit off-putting, but personally, I think the Chicken Cutlet was decent and I might come back for lunch again. I noticed that Rossi46 also reviewed the Chicken Ginger Stir-Fry as the daily special, so I might try that next time.

Daily lunch special with ginger chicken set for 840 yen at a chicken specialty restaurant. The wait was 15 minutes, longer than expected. Of course, the ginger chicken was made with chicken, not pork. It was my first time trying ginger chicken made with chicken instead of pork. The shredded cabbage was served in a generous portion. Oh, so chicken can be made into ginger chicken like this. I had never made ginger chicken with anything other than pork before, so it was a refreshing experience. I'll definitely try making it at home! My recipe repertoire has expanded!

After finishing some business in Ryogoku, I decided to try the daily special chicken and egg rice bowl for 840 yen at a restaurant. The place seemed to mainly focus on chicken dishes for nighttime. The counter seats were almost full with salarymen. The water was served to the table, not self-serve, and tasted really good. I ordered the chicken and egg rice bowl as planned and it arrived within 5 minutes. The chicken was juicy and had a good texture, served with plenty of rice and a side of miso soup. The meal also came with salad, pickles, and other side dishes, making it a great deal for 840 yen. Overall, it was a popular spot among salarymen in Ryogoku.

The teriyaki sauce lacked shine and the soft cartilage and heart were not available, so I would like to try them next time.

Both countries used to have a chicken market, so chicken dishes are still popular. I decided to try the lunch at a yakitori bar, which also offers dinner. The daily special was oyakodon, a classic choice. The interior of the bar had a concrete and counter design, giving it an industrial feel. I sat at the counter near the entrance, feeling the cold air from the AC. The food arrived in about 5 minutes - oyakodon, miso soup, pickles, and a spring roll salad. The salad was like an appetizer, the pickles were pickled radish, and the miso soup seemed a bit salty with discolored seaweed. The oyakodon was made with leftover chicken pieces from yakitori skewers, with a generous amount of rice and sauce. It tasted like a homemade oyakodon, but the price of 840 yen seemed a bit high for the portion size. Overall, I don't plan on returning without trying their dinner menu first.

We shared a chicken hot pot among 3 people. It had a good volume and rich flavor, providing a satisfying meal. The taste may be too strong for some people, but I personally enjoyed it. The hot pot was filled with various parts of chicken. While the lunch reviews weren't great, the dinner experience was quite good. The staff, although foreigners, were attentive and the restaurant was busy even on a weekday. I had to rush to work afterward, but I would like to visit again when I have more time as there were many other menu items that caught my eye.

Other reviewers have also mentioned that the lunch prices are somewhat high (except for the Chicken Curry at 740 yen, the rest are 840 yen). I usually order the "Karaage Teishoku" or "Chicken Katsu Teishoku," and the portions are quite generous, enough to fill up an adult male's stomach (so it might be challenging for women to finish it). If you have a small appetite, you may want to order with less rice. The chicken karaage and chicken katsu are delicious, but the cabbage side dish is tough and thick, making it difficult to eat. There are many staff members with dyed hair and long hair, and the background music in the store is mainly Western rock and heavy metal. This may be the preference of the staff (or the owner). Personally, I enjoy this music genre, so I would like to visit at night as well if the atmosphere is the same. Even if you are not a fan of Western rock music, the background music volume is low, so it shouldn't be a concern. The first floor has only a counter, while the second floor has table seating. During weekdays at lunchtime (especially after 12:00), it is often full.
