Eating Out Edition - Surprised! Half-Automatic Cash Register at Sukiya, Gyudon Regular @ Sukiya/Uguisudani
This is a story from a little while ago, but for lunch on 8/4 (Sunday), I went to this restaurant. It's the Sukiya Uguisudani branch. I had stumbled upon this place while walking before. I was in the mood for gyudon, so I decided to visit this place on this day. First, I checked the menu. It was a hot day, so I briefly thought about curry, but the cost difference between curry and gyudon was clear at a glance. I didn't think there was much of a cost difference between curry and gyudon. (If anything, considering the amount of meat, gyudon seemed more expensive.) It seemed like the price of gyudon was lowered, and the difference was added to other menu items, so I decided to go with the recommended gyudon, as expected, and ordered a regular gyudon (350 yen). The gyudon arrived quickly. A simple style with only meat and onions on a bed of rice. I added pickled ginger and sprinkled plenty of shichimi pepper, and I was ready to eat. Of course, gyudon goes well with pickled ginger and shichimi pepper. Let's dig in. Yum, delicious! Gyudon always tastes good no matter when you eat it. The onions are cooked just right. If the onions in gyudon were raw, it wouldn't be good. The rice soaked in sauce is also delicious! I could just eat this alone. The pickled ginger. It really does a great job. I slurped down the gyudon, pouring it down my throat, and finished it in one go. Phew, I'm full. With this taste and portion at this price, the cost performance is definitely satisfactory. I left the restaurant very satisfied. The end. Bonus: When I went to pay, the cash register was semi-automatic (the staff scans the receipt on the machine, and then the customer inserts cash themselves for payment). This method is common in supermarkets nowadays, but it was my first time experiencing it at a restaurant. It was a bit surprising, but when I thought about it, it seems like the vending machine style like at Matsuya is more advanced in terms of rationalization.
