While walking, I came across a shop with a swirl mark that turned out to be a roll cake shop. I bought a Shine Muscat Roll for 680 yen to take out. The roll cake was delicious and the muscat was good too. It wasn't incredibly memorable, but it was not bad. The shop is about a 6-7 minute walk from the nearest station. It seems to be a relatively new shop and it does not have a cafe attached.

I came here for an event and bought some souvenirs for my family. Since it was in the evening, I was able to purchase them without waiting in line. We had them for breakfast the next morning, and my family was delighted as they found it delicious. It was a good experience, and now I feel more familiar with Tokyo.

I visited around 3 PM on a national holiday and although the selection was limited, I was able to buy ◆Jiyugaoka Roll 450 yen x 2 x 2 boxes right away. I couldn't eat it on the same day, so I had it the next morning. The fresh cream was delicious, and the custard cream with a strong egg yolk flavor was also tasty. Even the sponge, despite being a day old, was delicate and good. While convenience store roll cakes are tasty enough, the luxurious taste of the two-layer cream, delicate sponge, and rich egg flavor made me feel happy. Even my mother, who loves roll cakes, was delighted when I gave it to her as a souvenir.

I visited around 3 PM on Saturday. There was only one group ahead of me, so I was able to enter the shop quickly. I ordered the basic Jiyugaoka roll cake for 450 yen. I enjoyed it at home and found that the cake had a strong egg flavor with a noticeable presence of whipped cream. This is the world's first roll cake specialty shop, and I will definitely visit again! \(//∇//)\

This shop is located about a 6-minute walk from Jiyugaoka Station. I stopped by while I was in Jiyugaoka for errands. I went right after opening on a weekday, so there was quite a variety of pastries available. The cookie choux was 360 yen and the peach roll was 700 yen. I chose the peach roll, which was a seasonal limited edition. The dough was very chewy and the peach filling was generous, filling me up. The cookie choux had a rich custard filling inside. The dough was crispy and easy to eat, but it was also quite filling. These sweets would make great gifts. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

I came to Denenchofu for lunch and decided to explore for sweets in the neighboring area of Jiyugaoka. There are so many shops around here, it's hard to choose where to go! Among them, I chose a shop that offers roll cakes by the charismatic patissier, Hiroyuki Tsujiguchi, whom I've seen on TV. I visited around 12:50 on a Saturday and there were still plenty of products available. I decided on the Jiyugaoka Roll, which is said to be a popular item.
Purchased item:
- Jiyugaoka Roll 450 yen
The size is standard. The sponge has a strong yellow color, and when you touch it, it feels quite elastic. Upon tasting it, the slightly coarse sponge has a rough texture and a light, smooth mouthfeel. The filling is 80% whipped cream and 20% custard. The whipped cream is sweet and rich, with a heavy texture, while the custard is rich with a strong egg flavor. Both have a punchy flavor, giving the cake a luxurious feel. The slightly rough texture of the sponge combines well with the rich cream, creating a good balance. Despite its appearance, the cake is quite satisfying due to the generous amount of cream, making you feel indulgent while eating it. Although it doesn't have a standout flavor, it is a delicious roll cake with a luxurious feel, especially highlighting the attention to detail in the eggs. It may seem pricey for personal consumption, but it would make a great gift as well. I would like to try their seasonal limited edition items in the future. Thank you for the meal!

I had a snack last Sunday. I went to the university on Monday for a seminar, so I had this roll cake as a snack. It's from a rare specialty roll cake shop. They had a lot of different types, but I chose this new Japanese-style one. The cute logo is also drawn on the bag. The sponge cake has a nice matcha aroma. The sponge cake is really delicious. And it has a very Japanese flavor with kinako (soybean flour) and mochi. It's innovative to have mochi inside the cake, but it's delicious. I want to come here for the cake party in my research lab next time. Thank you for the meal.

After having lunch, I was strolling around when I came across a shop with a drawing of a cross-section of a roll cake on its exterior. Inside, there were many roll cakes. The shop's name was Roll-ya. They had Banana Roll for 650 yen and a limited-time special, Sweet Summer Roll with red tea and sweet summer oranges for 650 yen. They were both very delicious.

I visited the shop around 1 pm on a holiday. The shop is located a short walk from the station and has a very simple exterior with a logo resembling a roll cake (similar to Bakabon's cheek). Upon entering the shop, I noticed that it is a take-out only store with a showcase displaying various roll cakes that look very sparkly.
- Jiyugaoka Roll 400 yen: This is the shop's signature menu item. The visual presentation is simple, but when you dig in with a fork, the cake is fluffy and soft. Surprisingly, it is also very chewy, which was unexpected. The creamy texture spreads throughout the mouth, not overly sweet, and very delicious. The chewiness, creaminess, and elegance combine to create a delicious roll cake.
- Chocolat Roll 480 yen: A fluffy roll cake covered in cocoa powder, giving it a lovely appearance. The cake has a slight bitterness and a subtle adult-like taste. The balance between the chocolate flavor and creaminess is excellent, making it very delicious. The bitterness is not overpowering, so even children will enjoy it.
- Sakura and Strawberry Roll (limited time) 600 yen: A soft roll cake with creamy cream and a subtle cherry blossom scent. It is not too sweet, allowing you to feel the seasonal touch and enjoy its delicious taste. The addition of the scent enhances the depth of the cake, combining the aroma, creaminess, and sweetness to create a roll cake with a traditional Japanese sweetness. It was very delicious.

It's been a while since I last had it. I've tried many different types of roll cakes before, but this one is clearly the best. It's really delicious. The cream is tasty, the cake itself is tasty, and when you put them together, it's even more delicious. I wish I could buy it anywhere.

I visited the "Jiyugaoka Roll Shop" located in Meguro-ku, Tokyo. The place is about a 6-minute walk from Jiyugaoka Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line. The shop, founded by Chef Tsujiguchi of the well-known "Mont St. Clair," specializes in roll cakes and is easily recognizable by its triangular roof and windows with "swirling" patterns reminiscent of roll cakes. Inside, the showcase is filled with various types of roll cakes, with almost no other baked goods on display. I purchased the following items this time:
- Strawberry Roll: The sponge cake had a strong egg flavor, and the cream, a combination of custard and whipped cream, paired well with the acidity of the strawberries. It's a seasonal limited edition item.
- Roulé Fraisier
- Chocolate Roll: Although a bit drier than others, I was impressed to learn that it was made without flour. The rich chocolate flavor complemented the sweetness of the whipped cream.
- Matcha Roll
Overall, it was a delightful experience.

Let's try visiting a highly-rated sweets shop in Jiyugaoka! This place is owned by Chef Hiroshi Tsujiguchi. I decided to skip the fresh roll cake with today's expiration date and instead bought a small buttercream roll cake and Jiyugaoka canelé, which can last longer. How were they? Let's find out! The Jiyugaoka canelé was just like any other canelé, priced at 300 yen each. The texture was moderately crispy, and the aroma was strong. The inside was also moderately gooey. Decent overall. The strawberry roll cake cost 220 yen. The small size and long-lasting buttercream were nice, but I wish there was more thickness to it. I love when the cold buttercream melts in my mouth. The strawberry flavor was barely noticeable. The Chocolat Caramel roll cake also cost 220 yen. The crunchy chocolate was enjoyable, but the caramel flavor was subtle. The buttercream was delicious, and I wish there was more of it. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. I recommend the Petit Roll for those who love buttercream. The canelé is optional in my opinion. I love buttercream! (However, I was shocked when I looked at the list of additives on the back of the Petit Roll package...) The staff was friendly, and although the shop is small, the colorful display of roll cakes in the showcase was impressive! The shop is closed on Wednesdays, so I was finally able to visit and I left feeling satisfied after enjoying the traditional Japanese sweets in Jiyugaoka.

I climbed up from the bakery in front of me, Mont Saint-Claire, and saw colorful roll cakes lined up. Just looking at them makes me happy. I bought some cakes and bread, but when will I eat them? I thought. But since I don't come here often, I decided to buy them. As a result, I devoured them in no time.

Arrived around 1:30 PM on Saturday. There were still various types of roll cakes in the showcase. The canelé had a slightly crispy exterior and a soft interior. It was sweet and not too strong in rum flavor, making it easy to eat. It was delicious and safe choice. I only had one bite of the roll cake, so I would like to try a different flavor next time. The pistachio financiers had a strong pistachio flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. It was delicious.

Visited around 3:00 pm on a regular day. No customers at the time. A specialty shop for roll cakes run by Chef Hiroki Tsujiguchi. They had about 6 varieties of cut cakes for sale, including seasonal limited editions. Despite being a specialty shop, they also sold baked goods like canelés and cookies. There's also "Mont St. Clair" nearby. I bought both the standard and limited edition roll cakes. It may seem pricey at 600 yen per roll cake, but once you try them, you'll finish them in no time! So delicious. I should have bought three... Both cakes had a light and delicious cake base. The "Jiyugaoka Roll" had a perfect balance of milky cream that leaves a lingering taste. The "Black Tea and Apple" had a subtle black tea flavor that you might miss if you're not paying attention. However, the caramelized black tea-infused red apple was amazing! The bitterness of the caramelized apple, the sweetness of the cream, it was a delicious limited edition product.

Photo Low-Carb Control Chocolate - Chocolat Universe -
Despite being on a diet, I still crave sweet treats, and my colleagues noticed and kindly gave me a gift from the Chocolat Universe in Jiyugaoka. Chocolat Universe is a delicious chocolate developed jointly by pastry chef Hiroshi Tsujiguchi and the Health Food Lab, after much trial and error. Unlike regular chocolate made by mixing sugar and milk into cocoa mass, Chocolat Universe uses natural sweeteners such as "Erythritol" (sugar alcohol) found in fermented foods like soy sauce and miso, as well as fruits. This allows people on sugar-restricted or dieting diets to enjoy the taste without guilt. There are three flavors available: Bitter, Milk, and White, all of which are delicious and have a smooth texture that rivals regular chocolate. In particular, the White chocolate was rich and tasty. The nutritional values per 5g piece are as follows, making it a safe and delicious choice for those on a diet:

August 27, 2022, afternoon, first visit. I have passed by the shop over a thousand times, but this is my first time entering.
[Overall Impression]
- Opened in August 2002. Over 20 years of experience.
- World's first specialty roll cake shop.
- Founded by Tsujiguchi, who achieved success at Mont St. Clair.
- Employees are diligent in making sweets.
- Roll cakes have a slightly dry texture (could be due to the use of rice flour).
- In terms of pricing, there is a sense of incomplete satisfaction.
- Impression of a shop from the perspective of the owner.
- Wondering what it would be like if Tsujiguchi had continued as a craftsman in Western confectionery.
- Baked goods served as a service contain trehalose, symbolizing everything.
- Tsujiguchi visited the shop on the morning of my visit for the 20th-anniversary celebration.
- If I had seen Tsujiguchi in person, I might have given a higher rating.
[Purchased Items]
- Jiyugaoka Roll: 400 yen
- Chocolat Roll: 480 yen
- Choco Banana Roll: 500 yen
- Salted Caramel Roll: 500 yen
- Nashi (Japanese pear) Mont Blanc Roll: 600 yen
Total: 2,480 yen
Overall, I did not feel the quality of ingredients such as flour, dairy products, chocolate, etc., matching the price. The cost of ingredients seemed lower than the usual profitability line for restaurants, giving the impression of a shop run from a business perspective rather than a craftsman's perspective.

Fluffy and freshly baked roll cakes made with a variety of dough such as souffle, sponge, and biscuit, combined with seasonal fruits and Japanese ingredients, are displayed in the showcase. To achieve the most attractive feature of roll cakes, which is the fluffy baked dough, different types and combinations of wheat flour are continuously experimented with. Carefully selected organic sugars, cocoa, sugar-free chocolates, and ingredients like Euglena are used to create body-friendly materials. To achieve a moist texture and smooth melting sensation, the cocoa content is increased and chocolate ganache mixed with cream is prepared without incorporating air. The slight differences in these processes result in a richer flavor. Every morning, eggs are cracked, dough is baked, cream and homemade jam are generously spread, and seasonal fruits are rolled up. The freshly made roll cakes are then lined up in the shop's showcase to welcome customers. This has been a cherished commitment since the opening of Jiyugaoka Roll Shop. Address: 1-23-2 Jiyugaoka, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. Arrival Date: Saturday. Number of People in Line: 0. Waiting Time: 0 minutes. Orders: Matcha Warabi Mochi and Kinako Roll - 550 yen (tax included), Pistachio Choux Cream - 500 yen (tax included).

There is a roll cake shop in Jiyugaoka. It is run by Chef Tsujiguchi from Mont St. Clair, so expectations are high. I visited on a Sunday afternoon. There was one customer ahead of me, but I was able to purchase quickly. I bought the seasonal roll cake that day. It was a fruit roll cake with summer fruits like mango and pineapple. I enjoyed it at home. The roll cake was as expected - fluffy cake and fluffy cream. It has a very smooth texture and the sweetness is just right. It was a very delicious roll cake.

Introducing a roll cake shop in Jiyugaoka this time! The owner chef is my favorite Monsieur Hagiwara Chef, and they have unique roll cakes that you can't find elsewhere! I tried the Setouchi Lemon roll cake, and it was amazing with the sourness of the lemon and the sweetness of the cream! It had feuilletage dough and lemon jelly inside, so it was a roll cake with various flavors, not just cream! The lemon roll cake is probably sold out now, but you can enjoy new rolls every season! If you want to try the roll cake owned by Chef Hagiwara in Jiyugaoka, be sure to visit! #Tokyo #Jiyugaoka #JiyugaokaRollShop #RollCake #Cake #JiyugaokaDining #CakeDining #SweetsDining #July3rd #124Dining
