While they also serve meat dishes like ginger pork set meals, Yayoiken is known for their grilled fish. I ordered the mackerel salt-grilled set meal (with grated radish and sliced lemon) for 700 yen (tax included). The grilled fish had a nice char on it. It was delicious and fatty, with just the right amount of salt. When eaten with the grated radish, the flavor exploded. Squeezing a bit of lemon on top made it even more delicious. I was halfway through my meal when I ran out of rice. The rice was also delicious. One of the great things about Yayoiken is that you can get free refills on rice. So I quickly got a second helping. The miso soup was also very tasty. While many customers were ordering the ginger pork, I highly recommend the mackerel salt-grilled dish instead. It was delicious. Thank you.

That day, I wanted to eat sanma because I had seen news about the catch of Pacific saury. I purchased a ticket at the storefront and was guided inside. In the past, I often went unnoticed when the restaurant was in a different location, but now that it has returned, I was quickly noticed after buying the ticket, which was great. Most of the seats are for two people, with a few four-seater tables at the back that are currently not in use due to reduced operations. After being seated, I went to help myself to tea and water. Next to that, there were dashi and rice for ochazuke, which I appreciated being able to use without hesitation. The sanma was as described in the news, still slim and refreshing. I ended with ochazuke, and I look forward to returning when the fish is fattier.

From the era of Meshiya Donburi, there has been a signature dish called Chicken Nanban Set Meal that I suddenly felt like eating again. It wasn't particularly delicious back then, with tough and crispy thin-skinned chicken covered in a bland tartar sauce lacking in flavor. The presence of sweet vinegar sauce was barely noticeable. It was just a confirmation that it hasn't evolved since then.

This is a diner located 2-3 minutes walk from JR Yoyogi Station. It's near the NTT Docomo headquarters and is always busy. I ordered the Mix Toji set meal for 790 yen. For those who want to try a variety of dishes, this is a welcome option. The Wood-ear Pork has a flavor that whets the appetite, and the slightly salty seasoning is not bad. On the other hand, the Chicken Chili has a refreshing seasoning, with the spiciness not too pronounced, making it easy to eat. With unlimited rice included at this quality, it's cost-effective. It came with sukiyaki, tempura, and grilled fish, which were all delicious. The rice refill was just a push of a button. I finished off with the pickles. It was crowded on the first day, but the food was tasty.
