"Showa" ramen shop in Chiba-cho. The shop was awarded the "Gohan Club Grand Prize 2021" on "King's Brunch". The reason for the selection was not only the taste, but also the episode of "inheriting the taste of the deceased second generation". The shop name was hidden in the brunch, but it seems that they started "Showa" by inheriting the second generation recipe of "Makoi" at the same location. The location is about a 3-minute walk from Chiba-cho Station on a calm street. The interior of the shop has 8 counter seats, a small kitchen, and is operated by the shop owner and three female staff. The menu is as follows: "Showa Ramen" 800 yen, "Spicy Miso Ramen" 900 yen, "Shoyu Ramen" 800 yen, "Hiyashi Chuka (summer limited)" 900 yen. Lunch comes with free extra noodles and payment is made in advance. Also, until 12 o'clock, the egg is served as a service. "Showa Ramen" 800 yen Clear golden soup with large pork slices, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and a free seasoned egg. The appearance is more modern than nostalgic. The soup has a gentle and elegant umami flavor that permeates. It is not a taste built with sauce or oil, but mainly with broth made from bones and vegetables. Whether it's vegetables or salt seasoning, there is a lingering sweetness. A soup that is further gently rounded like Asakusa's "Azuma" or Nippori's "Ichiryoku", cooked in a traditional way. The noodles are thin curly noodles. The elasticity and chewy texture are nostalgically good. The large pork slices are shoulder loin seared just before serving. Thick but fluffy and tender, it has been carefully prepared. The almost hard-boiled egg is truly "Showa". The crunchy menma is delicious in a modern way. It's a ramen that is easy to eat every day, rather than a punchy one. There are also new shops that serve punchy ramen, but the taste here seems hard to replicate.

I finally got to visit a restaurant that I had been curious about for a while. I was prepared for a long line on a weekday at 12:30, but surprisingly, I was able to sit down easily. I ordered their signature dish, the "Showa Ramen," and paid upfront. At 850 yen, it felt quite cheap for these days. The food was served in less than 10 minutes. The soup was clear and deep, almost like a Tanmen soup. The noodles were thin and curly. I heard someone who came later ordering their noodles firm, and I thought that might have been a good choice. The chashu was a piece of tender, seared pork loin. I was pleased to see bean sprouts in the dish. It was a wonderful taste of the Showa era. Thank you for the meal!

You can enjoy a light and simple ramen at a restaurant that might be easily overlooked without checking food review websites. The ramen, named after the shop, has a simple appearance but features a golden-colored broth with a subtle saltiness that is not just about salt but also packed with umami flavor. The thin noodles complement the broth well and the chashu, with its fatty richness, stands out as a nice accent to the overall lightness of the dish. As you savor the ramen, you may notice the flavor changing subtly, and before you know it, you've slurped up every last drop of the delicious soup.

At first glance, you might wonder if it's a tonkatsu or ramen shop. The exterior is eye-catching and reminiscent of a typical Chinese restaurant. The taste is neither outstanding nor disappointing, but what really stands out is the nostalgic Showa era atmosphere. The whole interior exudes a sense of the past, making it a truly enjoyable experience.

I visited around 7:30 pm on a weekday. I was able to enter without waiting. The lighting was dim, making it a bit hard to find the entrance. The interior was also dim with a retro atmosphere. I ordered the most popular Showa Ramen, and it arrived in a few minutes. It was a salt-based soup that was refreshing yet flavorful, not too light. I enjoyed it so much that I finished the soup. They offer a free upgrade to a large portion for lunch. Ramen prices have been going up lately, but this place is reasonably priced.

This week, I was in the mood for finishing off with Coco after drinking, so I went straight from Kushihaccho after two days (lol). Today, I had the nostalgic light soy sauce flavor. The soy sauce was also very delicious, but I still think Coco's golden soup with salt is the best.

I was drinking near Kushichou, so I decided to end the night with Showa which I had been curious about. The choice is between Showa or Shoyu based on preference, but for beginners, it's a rule to go with the menu of the restaurant's name. And, as expected, this simple and light option was good. I've decided to go with Shoyu next time for a repeat visit, thanks for the meal all the way to the soup (laughs).

This is a popular ramen shop located about a 5-minute walk from Exit A5 of Hatchobori Station in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. When I visited around 11:30 am on a weekday, I was lucky to find a seat available and was able to enter immediately. As more customers arrived, there was a short line outside by the time I left. The "Showa Ramen" priced at 850 yen is a must-try, with the chashu (roast pork) being seared just before serving, giving it a delicious aroma. The chashu is made from high-quality domestic pork shoulder, which adds to the anticipation. The soup, which is carefully prepared over three days, has a gentle and extremely mellow flavor that is so smooth and comforting that you would want to drink it even first thing in the morning or when hungover. The toppings, such as crunchy bean sprouts and thick menma (bamboo shoots), are well-balanced and delicious until the last bite. Unfortunately, I missed the fact that they offer a free large size option. Perhaps due to the summer season, about half of the customers also ordered the cold noodles, so I would like to try that if I have the chance.

At 5:30 pm on a regular evening, a young person, most likely Vietnamese, visited the restaurant for the first time and ordered a "Cold Ramen with less noodles" for 950 yen. The dish was served in about 10 minutes and looked very appetizing. It contained eggs, cucumbers, seaweed, pickled ginger, bamboo shoots, and grilled chunks of pork. The pork had a delicious flavor. The noodles were thin and the sauce was a traditional sweet and salty soup. A side of mustard was also provided. The cold ramen had a nostalgic taste to it. While eating, a Vietnamese girl entered the restaurant and seemed to be friends with the staff. Thank you for the meal.

Visited a ramen restaurant located along Suzuran Street near my workplace again after 12 years, in June 2023. Since it was the summer solstice and hot, I ordered the "Hiyashi Chuka" for 950 yen including tax, which was my first cold noodle dish of the season. I paid in cash upfront, and after a short wait, the Hiyashi Chuka arrived. It was topped with chunky seared chashu, thick-cut menma, seasoned egg, cucumber, young greens, and pickled ginger, with curly medium-thin noodles that had a smooth and chewy texture. The soy sauce-based sauce, although brown in color, was sweet and savory, making it a perfect seasoning for a hot day. I thanked the hostess for the delicious meal. I wonder if the Korean family's child, who was a previous customer, understood the kindness of the Japanese mother who gave them a plastic fork.

Hmm... The interior of the store has about 8 seats at the counter. The Showa Ramen has a light soup and noodles, with no particular distinctive features. The chashu, in particular, was fragrant and tender, and very delicious. For the Spicy Miso Ramen, you can choose the level of spiciness up to level 7! I chose level 3, but as a fan of spicy food, I think level 5 would have been good too. Just be aware that compared to other stores, it is slightly spicier, so it's good to choose accordingly. I wonder if people come here seeking a gentle soup after drinking or a spicy soup? Thank you for the meal.

In Ebisu, I had ramen. Last time, I tried the cold noodles, but this time I went for the famous Showa Ramen. I ordered the Showa Ramen for 850 yen (tax included). It's been about 20 years since I last visited "Makoumi" (which was in the same location). The owner and a female staff member served me in just 2 minutes. The dish included charred chashu, menma, bean sprouts, and green onions in a golden soup. The menu describes it as the taste of famous shops from the Showa era, but it doesn't look very retro. The soup is rich and flavorful, with a hint of sweetness. It seems to be made from chicken bones and vegetables. The noodles are slightly curly and medium-thin, with a chewy texture. The chashu is charred and fragrant, thick but tender and moist. The menma is thick but crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Although it's called Showa Ramen, it's not just nostalgic - it's a deep and flavorful ramen. Next time, I'll try the spicy miso ramen. Thank you for the meal.

The appearance of the shop is located in the business district of Kayabacho, just off the main street down a side alley. The nearest stations, Kayabacho Station and Hatchobori Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line or Hibiya Line, are both about a 5-minute walk away. The exterior looks more like a standing soba shop than a ramen shop. The interior was full during lunchtime, with mostly elderly customers. There are only 8 counter seats available. The menu offers only four types of ramen: Showa, Shoyu, Spicy Miso, and Cold Chinese Noodles (limited to summer). There are no side dishes like gyoza or rice. The Showa Ramen is said to have the taste of ramen from the 1950s. It looks simple with only bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and chashu. The thick-cut bamboo shoots give it a modern touch. The taste is nostalgic with a slightly sweet flavor, giving a sense of melancholy. The chashu in the center of the ramen has a strong presence, made with high-quality domestic shoulder loin as stated on the menu. It has a grilled surface, resembling the texture and taste of steak. The thin curly noodles are yellow with a good amount of kansui, providing a smooth and easy-to-eat texture that complements the soup well. The clear, slightly yellowish soup has a salt base, likely made from chicken bones, making it easy to drink with just the right amount of saltiness. Review: "Definitely coming back!!"

In the Reiwa era, the most popular ramen is called Showa Ramen with a golden soup for 850 yen. During lunchtime, you can get a free large serving. The restaurant is filled with businesspeople from Kayabacho. Many people are eating the summer limited cold noodles. Next time, I will try ordering the cold noodles. The drink served is barley tea, not water, but be careful as it is not cold in the pot. I also received a free egg voucher.

Today, despite the cold rain, I stopped by Showa Ramen near the office. Luckily, it wasn't crowded as usual. Last time I was here, the woman next to me was raving about the spicy miso ramen she was eating, so I decided to order that. You can choose the level of spiciness from 8 options, but I went with the regular (basic) one without hesitation. Since it was raining, they offered a free egg, which was a nice surprise. The ramen was delicious, spicy, and had a hint of sweetness. Even the meat other than the chashu was tasty. I finished every last bit.

Once again, I visited after drinking. This time, there were many foreign customers. It's impressive that they have an English menu. As expected from a popular restaurant. For some reason, my body craves this gentle soup. I enjoyed it today as well.

Sometimes I feel like having a light ramen. At 7:00 PM, there was one customer before me, but it quickly filled up. The ramen was served in 4 minutes. The appearance of the ramen made me feel like I could lose weight just by looking at it. It had a gentle taste with a chicken broth base and a salt flavor, providing a nice balance of being light yet satisfying. Even for those watching their weight, this would be a good choice. I also received a ticket for a free egg, so I will definitely come back!

I went to a ramen shop called "Showa" in Machiya-cho. It's a small shop with only a counter, and it was not too cramped as there were only 2 customers before me and 1 after me. I ordered the "Showa Ramen," which turned out to be different from what I had imagined - the soup was a golden color with a sweet taste, not the brown chicken soy sauce broth I had expected. The visually appealing thickly sliced roasted pork shoulder and chunky bamboo shoots stood out. In the end, the "Showa Ramen" was a simple yet delicious chicken broth ramen with tasty roasted pork slices.

The small, old-fashioned restaurant has about 8 counter seats. During lunchtime, you can get a free large portion, but you need to inform the staff when ordering. They won't ask you, so be careful. The bill is given right after ordering. The clear and light soup with thick slices of chashu brought back nostalgic feelings.

The clear golden soup is full of flavor. The soft noodles without any strong taste bring back a nostalgic feeling of how ramen used to be. It's not too rich, so you'll still want to eat after finishing the soup. The char siu is fragrant and tender, with a delicious melt-in-your-mouth texture. The complimentary egg made even the regular size serving quite filling.

This is a highly rated restaurant in the Kayaba-cho area. When I visited, the staff were young and running the operation. I ordered the Showa Ramen from the menu. The lady in the kitchen was removing threads from a large pork shoulder chashu. The chashu was thick and delicious. She was also busy using a burner to sear the surface. It is made from high-quality domestic pork shoulder. The soup was gentle! The soup, which takes 3 days to make, was of excellent quality. It was described as golden soup, made with vegetables and chicken bones perhaps? It was something that made you feel the kindness. When I paid, I received a voucher for a free egg next time. The restaurant has a high rating on Tabelog, and I can understand why, even though you can't see inside from the outside and it may be a bit intimidating to enter. Thank you for the meal.
