The "Fukushima family" has a historical record of running a confectionery shop as early as the first year of Bunkyū (1861). They are currently located in front of Sugamo Station. The shop mainly offers traditional Japanese sweets, with freshly made wagashi displayed neatly in the basement. Each item is elegant and delicious, showcasing the skill of the artisans.

I received a red and white steamed bun as a graduation gift. It's been a while since I had such a delicious manju. The thin skin is filled with plenty of sweet red bean paste. The description of "wrapping the skin around the filling" is perfect. The skin is thin but has a strong aroma and presence, complementing the filling perfectly. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the café with traditional Japanese sweets shop on November 20, 2021 at 2:30 PM. When I arrived, the place was full. It is located in Toshima-ku, Tokyo, just a short walk from JR Sugamo Station. The first floor has a sales area and a café space. The traditional Japanese sweets sold here are mainly fresh and change seasonally. While the focus is on selling Japanese sweets, the café also offers meals and Japanese sweets. The menu includes dishes like anmitsu, mamekan, and zenzai. The anmitsu with tea costs 700 yen. This place is perfect for those visiting Sugamo for sightseeing. The anmitsu is delicious as it is made in a traditional way. It's a bit like "Grandma's Starbucks" near Sugamo Station, where you can enjoy delicious Japanese sweets at the café space.

Located less than a minute's walk from Sugamo Station, this long-established Japanese confectionery cafe has been around since 1865. The menu offers a variety of traditional Japanese sweets as well as a selection of meal options such as spaghetti, omurice, hamburg steak, beef stew, and sandwiches. On this visit, I ordered the Fruit Mitsumame for 750 yen and the Cream Anmitsu for 750 yen. Despite it being a weekend afternoon, the cafe was not crowded, and the service was quick. The anko, ice cream, mochi, and agar jelly were delicious, although it was a bit disappointing that most of the fruits were from a can. It would be even better if they used fresh fruits, even if it meant a slightly higher price. However, the agar jelly was particularly tasty, making up for any shortcomings. I look forward to trying their natural ice shave during the summer. The convenience of being so close to the station makes this cafe a perfect spot for a break during a stroll around Sugamo.

For my day off errands, I transferred at Sugamo. I stepped outside the station for a stroll around the area. There was mist coming from the ceiling of the sidewalk in front of the station. I wanted something sweet quickly before moving on for lunch. I found a place right in front of the station where I could eat in the back. I could have gone for the classic sweet red bean soup or sweet bean jelly, or even the recommended natural ice, but I thought it might make my head feel too cold. I opted for the white rice dumplings with sweet red bean soup for 750 yen including tax. The soft and chewy white rice dumplings and sweet red beans were just right, not too sweet, for a good sugar boost. I refreshed my palate with warm green tea. After cooling off for a while, I moved on to the next location.

It was so hot that I decided to use my day off to visit the sweet shop "Fukushima-ya" in Sugamo. Lately, it seems like everywhere is using natural ice, which has become more common for shaved ice. I ordered the milk flavored shaved ice (1,200 yen) and it was delicious! The milk was tasty and the ice was refreshingly cold. It was also a generous portion! However, I didn't pour the milk evenly, so there were a few spots where the ice was plain. I ended up eating just the ice in those areas. I also bought some dorayaki as a souvenir on my way back home.

Fukushima-ya near Sugamo Station has good access. I used it for a meal. I love pure Japanese style. The interior of the restaurant is quiet and has a nice atmosphere. I ordered the mushroom hamburger and it was delicious. I will come again, thank you.

I entered the store because I couldn't bear the heat. I decided to test the theory that natural spring water shaved ice does not give you a brain freeze. The results are left to your imagination.

I'm back again! Today, I went downstairs where there is a space to buy products right when you enter, and the dining area is further inside. The showcase is filled with traditional Japanese sweets. The rice crackers look delicious and caught my eye! This time, I tried the White Mochi with Cream and Red Bean Paste for 760 yen. It was exquisite! The red bean paste was smooth and had a perfect level of sweetness. The staff also kept refilling my tea regularly, which made the experience very pleasant. They also serve meals, so I'm thinking about trying that next time. Unfortunately, smoking is not allowed.

A long-established Japanese confectionery shop in Sugamo. It's located right next to the station, and as a local, I always look forward to seeing the seasonal decorations in the window. This month, it was decorated for Halloween. The taste of their nerikiri is superb, with a moist and elegant sweet bean paste. The artistic beauty of their sweets is truly impressive. My mother even said, "It's a shame to eat them," as she gazed at them for a while. Having Halloween-themed Japanese sweets may seem like a joke, but the beauty and taste are truly exceptional. I can feel their enthusiasm for spreading Japanese tradition to young people and overseas. I'll definitely support them!

I received this at a commemorative event for a business partner. In my memory from decades ago, red and white steamed buns were dry and not very tasty, but this one was moist and fluffy, and delicious. It was as big as a convenience store meat bun, so I could only eat a quarter of it.

A friend brought us a souvenir called "Kuri Yose," which is like a chestnut steamed bun. Looking at everyone's reviews, it seems like this Japanese confectionery shop also has delicious fresh sweets. I would like to try buying some if I have the chance.
