I bought a bento for the first time in a while. It was from a bento shop run by a rice shop. They even had plastic food displays at the storefront! I thought about buying one, but decided against it. The bento I got was simple, with three pieces of shrimp fry and potato salad. The white rice was scooped from a jar right there. It reminded me of the way Poplar convenience stores do it! The rice was large and glossy, and it was really delicious. The shop was crowded with housewives during lunchtime, and I could see why. If you don't go early, there might not be good options left. The shop didn't seem too focused on making a profit by selling a lot. I think they even offered free miso soup.
I also visited a shop that used to be a regular rice shop, but now they make and sell bentos. It's nice to see a rice shop running a bento shop. I tried their special shrimp tempura bowl, and it was visually appealing with two large shrimp tempura. The sauce was on the sweeter side, so adults might want to add some shichimi spice at home. Even though I ate it more than 6 hours after it was made, the tempura and rice were still moist and not soggy, making it suitable as a bento. The shrimp itself lacked flavor, relying on the sweetness of the sauce. The rice was as expected, fluffy and sticky, perfect for Japanese people. The red rice I bought with it had too many red beans and lacked flavor. I had to add some sesame salt to enhance the taste. Overall, this bento shop caters more to older customers with its seasoning and quality rice. It's a good option for customers looking for something different.
