I visited this shop about 2 years ago and tried their traditional Japanese sweets, so I will review them. This time, I had a dorayaki and a chestnut bun. I'm not sure about the prices, but both of them had a small size. After trying them, I felt that both had plenty of sweet bean paste, giving a satisfying feeling despite the small size. However, they both had a slightly dry texture that bothered me. The dorayaki had a thick skin with less moisture, but it had a good balance of sweetness due to the generous amount of bean paste. However, the low moisture content in the bean paste and skin resulted in a slightly dry texture. The chestnut bun also had a thick skin and a lot of bean paste with low moisture, which left a dry impression rather than focusing on the taste. Personally, I didn't think the taste of the bean paste was bad as it had a strong aroma, but the low moisture content was a slight downside.

I had steamed buns, brown sugar steamed buns, daifuku, and mitarashi dango. Everything here is cheap and delicious, so I keep coming back, and this time was no exception. The daifuku was especially soft and very tasty. Thank you for the meal!

I had mitarashi dango and daifuku. The mitarashi dango was a bit hard but still delicious. The daifuku was soft and very tasty. They are affordable so I want to buy more next time.

I visited this shop located in a residential area one street away from the main road. It is quite difficult to find as it is far from the station and surrounded by only a few retail stores. There is a signboard at the entrance, so if you happen to pass by, you may notice the shop. The interior is surprisingly spacious. They offer a wide range of products, from long-lasting dried sweets to short-lived fresh sweets like daifuku and fresh confectionery. This time, I mainly purchased fresh sweets with a short shelf life. The prices are around 200 yen, so not too expensive. Upon tasting, I found that all the sweets were moist and had a unique fragrance. They have a traditional Japanese confectionery flavor with a slightly unusual sugar taste, making you want to eat them with tea. Each Japanese sweet has a handmade feel, and although the colors are not vibrant, they seem to be popular as a traditional Japanese confectionery shop.

We came to Sangenjaya on this day and after finishing lunch, my wife and I decided to buy some daifuku to take home as a double treat since dessert was included in our lunch. We chose this shop, located on a side street off Route 246 towards Komazawa University in Sangenjaya. It is a quiet shop with a modest appearance. The shop is called Tamagawa-ya, and although it made me think of the Tamagawa-ya in Meguro, the two shops do not seem to be related. The shop has been around since around 1940, and it offers various traditional Japanese sweets such as daifuku, mitarashi dango, sakuramochi, kokuto manju, and more. When we arrived around 2:30 pm, there was only one daifuku left in the showcase, but luckily the staff member was able to make more for us. We ended up buying four daifuku and three mitarashi dango for a total of 520 yen. The daifuku, made with rice, was soft and filled with a delicious red bean paste. It was a delightful treat and I hope this long-standing shop continues to thrive for many more years to come.

The smooth red bean paste, perfect sticky rice texture, and just the right size. This is the basic of smooth red bean paste ohagi. It offers a sense of security and stability, a taste that you want to stay the same.

This is bad... It's not about the taste balance, but it seems like there is a problem with the storage of the ingredients. When you eat it, a musty smell spreads in your mouth. Grass mochi, sweetfish, dorayaki. No matter what you eat... it's sad.

It is a small shop with a splendid signboard outside. Located about a 10-minute walk from Sangenjaya Station in Nakazato Shotengai. - Daifuku (120 yen) - Mitarashi dango (100 yen) - Mizuyokan (190 yen) - Jelly (150 yen) Daifuku and Mitarashi dango are made with mochi rice, so they are just like mochi. The daifuku has plenty of sweet red bean paste stuffed inside the soft mochi. The red bean paste is also not too sweet and easy to eat. The most delicious daifuku I've ever had! The Mitarashi dango is also delicious, with the sweet red bean paste wrapped around the fragrant grilled mochi balls. I'm not very familiar with Mizuyokan, so I can't compare it to the others, but it was delicious. The jelly is a seasonal item, only available in the summer. It is not made here, but rather imported from Gifu. This summer, I tried several famous shops to study and taste their summer sweets, but the jelly here was the best! It beat the 300 yen+ famous shops with its 150 yen price. However, because the daifuku and Mitarashi dango are made with mochi rice, they tend to harden and lose their deliciousness after a day. So if you want to enjoy them, make sure to eat them on the same day at Tamagawa-ya!
