Opened in April 2023 in the Daiichi Market in Koenji, Koenji Yakiniku Kokochi has been gaining popularity among yakiniku lovers. Located just a 1-minute walk from Koenji Station, it is nestled in a lively shopping street, offering a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere with Nepalese cuisine and curry shops. Inside, you will find a cozy space with two tables and an L-shaped counter with 8 seats, where you can watch the meat being cut and served right in front of you.
The head chef, Kimura, is a young and refreshing 31-year-old who has 12 years of experience training at Yakiniku Sansui in Kokubunji. The other staff members are also young and friendly, creating a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying yakiniku. One of the highlights of Kokochi is the delicious sauce yakiniku that goes perfectly with rice. The seasoning and original sauce offer a classic downtown yakiniku flavor that will keep you coming back for more. From the meat menu to side dishes like shrimp sashimi, the quality is consistently high, and everything is delicious.
It is recommended to order the omakase course for 4,800 yen and then choose your favorite items a la carte. The omakase course includes dishes like shrimp sashimi, beef tataki in yukke style, wagyu tongue, and egg soup. The namul assortment, kimchi assortment, senmai sashimi, and shrimp sashimi are all homemade and highly recommended. The tongue salt, regular tongue salt, and wagyu tongue are of surprising quality, while the kalbi and loin are also delicious. The hormone, lower tongue, and red meat with Korean sauce offer a different, rich flavor that is worth trying.
After enjoying the omakase course and a la carte items, including a variety of meats and side dishes, you will feel satisfied with the perfect amount of food. If the wagyu harami is not available on the day, it's definitely worth trying next time!
