A new restaurant called "#Katsudon brings happiness to people - Nishi-Azabu branch" has opened during lunchtime in Nishi-Azabu. This popular spot is known for its unique open-faced katsudon. Following the success of their first store in Nihonbashi Kaki-garacho Suitengu, which opened in February this year, they have now opened their second store in August and their third store in September in front of Kanda Station. Inspired by the katsudon specialty store "Zuicho" in Shibuya-Jinbo, the open-faced katsudon features a crispy katsu peeking out from under the egg, topped with a sweet sauce. The restaurant's dedication to maximizing the deliciousness within a set budget has made it a hit among customers. They aim to spread their charm nationwide and even globally, with the goal of making katsudon a national dish. The restaurant is located just a 2-minute walk from the intersection in Nishi-Azabu, with a white sign displaying their hashtagged name. They are currently operating during the day at "Kani Ramen Koka" in Shibuya-Jinbo. The interior is small, with a long counter and a few pole-shaped seats for two. Customers purchase food tickets before seating. The menu includes: - Open-faced katsudon: 1,200 yen - Open-faced fillet katsudon (limited quantity): 1,800 yen - Ultimate open-faced katsudon: 3,500 yen On this visit, only the regular open-faced katsudon was available, which we ordered. The dish arrived within 5 minutes, presented beautifully with colorful plates and a katsu overflowing from the lid. The katsu was crispy and perfectly cooked, with a delicious texture that was easy to bite into. The sweet sauce complemented the katsu well, enhancing its flavors. The egg was smooth and sweet, providing a new and enjoyable experience. The rice was firm and added a nice texture to the dish. Overall, the katsudon was delicious, with a perfect balance of flavors. After finishing the meal, we felt satisfied and happy. The restaurant is a great choice for lunch in Roppongi and Nishi-Azabu. #Katsudon brings happiness to people - Nishi-Azabu branch Address: 1-14-17 Nishi-Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo Ito Building 1F Phone: 03-3408-1855 Business hours: 11:30-15:00 *Evening hours are unknown Closed on Sundays, irregular holidays Stay time: 20 minutes Bill: 1,200 yen including tax Entry time: Weekdays 12:30 pm, 2 customers already present

A restaurant that serves "open katsu-don" (katsu-don without egg). The Nishiazabu branch is located a short walk from the Nogizaka intersection in Nishiazabu. They also have branches in Suitengu-mae, Kanda, and Gotanda. The system involves purchasing tickets from a vending machine. The open katsu-don costs 1,200 yen and comes with crispy tonkatsu and fluffy egg. Personally, I prefer katsu-don with soft egg over this style, but it's good to try something different once in a while. Money spent: 1,200 yen Rating: 3 points 5 points: Definitely want to revisit!! 4 points: Would like to revisit if given the chance! 3 points: Willing to revisit. 2 points: Once is enough. 1 point: No need to go.

Next to Suiten-gu Shrine, the second location of "#Katsudon brings happiness" Nishi-Azabu store. This is a restaurant specializing in katsudon with runny egg. As far as I can remember, in Tokyo, it started with "Zuicho" in Shibuya, and then the trend seemed to have spread. Well, whatever. The location is near Gonpachi. Purchase a meal ticket at the entrance. Inside the restaurant, there is only a single row of counter seats, and a female staff member is running the place alone. They also operate in the evening with an expanded menu. - Katsudon with runny egg: 1,200 yen The bowl and soup are presented nicely. When you open it, the egg is vivid. The egg itself is fluffy and sweet. It seems to have quite a bit of sugar in it. I'm not a fan of sweet tamagoyaki as a side dish, but how will it be with katsudon? The katsu is fried well and cooked through. It's not the slightly pink approach that has been popular recently. It's slightly light and dry, but the sweet and savory seasoning makes the rice go down smoothly. This sweet and savory flavor combined with the sweet egg gives it a junk food-like quality, which might be appealing in its own way. The rice portion is a bit small, so it feels slightly lacking as a katsudon. Personally, I'm not a big fan of sweet dishes, so I think I'll pass on this. Thank you for the meal. *Please visit my blog for more restaurant recommendations. On a certain day in June, I visited this shop, "#Katsudon brings happiness to people - Nishi-Azabu store," during a break from work. It seems to be the second store, with the main store located in Nihonbashi. When I arrived around 12:30, there was one customer already there. The shop has a single counter, and the menu gives off a vibe of being borrowed from a ramen shop. They offer two types of katsudon: Katsudon without egg for 1,200 yen and Premium katsudon without egg for 3,500 yen. Since it was my first time, I decided to go with the standard "Katsudon without egg." The shop is run by a female owner, and the operation runs smoothly. The pork slices were already coated with flour and ready to be fried. The order was quickly prepared by coating the meat with batter and frying it. At the same time, they served rice and prepared the egg. The dish was ready in just a few minutes, which was impressive. The katsudon had a unique appearance with the egg not completely covering the pork cutlet, making it visually appealing. I couldn't resist taking a video of it. The first bite revealed a strong umami flavor from the sauce and sweetness from the egg. The pork had a good texture, but the flavor was on the richer side. Personally, I wished there was a bit more rice. Next time, I might go for the larger portion. While it may not completely satisfy a man's appetite, if you enjoy a sweeter egg, I recommend giving it a try. Thank you for the meal. Total cost: 1,200 yen.

Katsudon restaurant. I had been wanting to go there for a while, but I don't often go to Nishi-Azabu for lunch, so I finally made it there (lol). I ordered the Hirekatsu Don at this shop with a long counter. The meat was tender and the frying was crispy, making it delicious. ^_^

Visit on Friday at 9:05 PM. I had been wanting to go there multiple times, but I couldn't muster up the courage to have Katsudon at night. This time, I decided to save my meals in the morning and afternoon to go. Originally, the store was called "Kani Ramen Kounatsu," and it seems to switch to ramen as its main dish at night. It was unclear if they also served Katsudon at night, but luckily there was one review for the night, so it seemed possible. The inside of the store had many Asian foreigners. It looked full, but I was able to enter quickly thanks to the staff arranging the customers' seating well. There was only one staff member. When the staff member asked me if I was okay with something other than ramen taking a while, I inquired about the time, and they said it would be about 15 minutes. I could wait comfortably. I watched them making the ramen, which also looked delicious. The finishing touch of putting the shell on top was stylish. The Katsudon was made afterwards. It arrived in 15 minutes. - Katsudon without egg (1,200 yen) It looks simple. The pork cutlet is cooked thoroughly. It's not fatty and doesn't feel heavy. The sweet sauce goes well with the crispy coating. The most delicious part was the egg coated in the sauce. It was fluffy and not heavy. I ended up eating it eagerly. Since they are open until late at night, it might be a good place for a closing meal after a drinking party. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this place for the first time because I was curious. They serve Tonkatsu Don. The interior of the restaurant is very small. They operate as a crab ramen shop at night. They fry the dish after you order, so it's crispy but lacks the flavor of the pork. The egg was too sweet, and the soup that came with it was too salty and spicy. I'm not sure if they taste-test the food. Maybe it was just my experience, but if it's always like this, I probably won't come back. Some people give high ratings, but maybe the chef was different?

In the midst of drinking in Nishi-Azabu and heading towards Roppongi Station, I stumbled upon a new restaurant with a catchy sign outside that read "#Katsudon brings happiness to people #Non-closing Katsudon". I thought it was a katsudon specialty shop, but upon closer inspection, it was actually a crab ramen restaurant called "Kani Ramen Kounatsu". I was a bit confused but decided to buy a ticket for their "Non-closing Katsudon" based on the sign. There was also a "Super Happy Bowl 10,000 yen" on the menu that caught my eye, but I couldn't find any information about it, which made me a bit wary. The katsudon that arrived was beautifully presented, with a generous portion of pork cutlet and fluffy egg omelette. The pork cutlet was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of fat. The savory sauce tied everything together nicely, making it a delicious meal. The layers of the cutlet were also neatly arranged. After finishing my meal, I chuckled at the message left at the bottom of the bowl, feeling satisfied and happy. Later, I found out that "Kani Ramen Kounatsu" and "#Katsudon brings happiness to people" coexisted in the same place. The restaurant opens at 9 p.m. and stays open until 5 a.m., making it a great option for a late-night meal in the area.

I recently visited "#Katsudon brings happiness to people," which opened in Nishi-Azabu. The main store is located in Nihonbashi, and another branch opened in Kanda around the same time. The restaurant operates by renting space from the "Hikaruka" store, where I have visited a few times late at night for "crab ramen." I purchased a ticket for the "Unstoppable Katsudon" proudly advertised on the ticket machine at the counter as inspired by Mizuto. Interestingly, while the "Unstoppable Katsudon" at the Nihonbashi and Kanda stores costs 1,100 yen, it is priced at 1,200 yen at the Nishi-Azabu store... The restaurant was almost empty, with only one other customer present. I easily found a seat, handed over my ticket, and the cooking process began. The katsu, coated in batter, was fried in the fryer, while a thin omelette was cooked in a Teflon pan and placed on top of the rice in a bowl. When the stopwatch rang in the restaurant, the katsu was removed from the fryer, cut into pieces, placed on top of the rice, covered with a dark sauce, and garnished with mitsuba. The katsu seemed to be made from pork, but I didn't find it particularly impressive. The lingering taste of lard made it feel like a greasy, junk food dish.

At Hikarinatsu in Nishi-Azabu, known for their crab ramen, they have just started offering a clumsy katsudon dish! I visited for lunch right away. The katsudon, with a lid that won't close, has a perfectly runny egg on top of crispy katsu. I decided to add an extra katsu for a double portion, and it was quite a satisfying meal. Since it's not closed, you can enjoy the crispy texture of the katsu until the end. When you finish eating, the bottom of the bowl spells out "happiness" ❤️, telling the whole story.

In February of this year, the popular restaurant "#Katsudon Brings Happiness" in front of Suiten-gu Shrine opened its second branch in Nishi-Azabu. The new branch opened on August 23rd, though I didn't realize it was happening so soon! The location is a 8-minute walk from Nogizaka Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, a 10-minute walk from Roppongi Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and Toei Oedo Line, and a 15-minute walk from Hiroo Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. The restaurant seems to be sharing space with "Kani Ramen Kounatsu", but I'm not entirely sure. The lunch hours are from 11:30 to 15:00, and according to Tabelog, they also serve ramen from 21:00 to 5:00 the next day. I visited alone around 1:30pm on a weekday. The menu includes the following items: "Katsudon" for 1,200 yen, "Premium Katsudon" for 3,500 yen, "Extra Katsu" for 500 yen, and "Extra Rice" for 100 yen. I ordered the regular Katsudon. The seating consists of 6 to 8 counter seats only, and I was seated near the entrance. I was served a miso soup first, which had a rich flavor that I enjoyed. The wait time was about 5 minutes, and then the Katsudon arrived. It was presented with a lid on, similar to the famous Katsudon restaurant "Mizuto" in Shibuya. When I removed the lid, I was greeted with a beautiful Katsudon - not the typical Niigata-style "Tare Katsu", but with a non-beaten egg on top. The egg resembled a well-cooked omelette. The Katsu was thin and perfectly sized for the bowl, covered in sauce and looked delicious. The taste was fantastic - the sweet sauce complemented the Katsu, egg, and rice perfectly. The crispy coating of the Katsu paired well with the sauce, and the fatty parts of the Katsu were especially flavorful. The portion of rice was just right, creating a well-balanced Katsudon. I found the Katsu at this second branch to be even more delicious than the first branch I visited on opening day. If given the chance, I would definitely visit again.

A new non-closing katsudon specialty restaurant opened in Nishi-Azabu on August 23, 2022. The location of the restaurant is about an 8-9 minute walk from Nogizaka Station towards Nishi-Azabu. It seems to be a subleased store of "Ramen Sakaba Hina" as the Hina sign is still up, and they are only open for lunch. "Katsudon brings happiness to people" is a concept from a business with its main store in Nihonbashi, now opening its second branch. The non-closing katsudon style, where the katsudon is placed on top of an egg omelette on white rice, is currently a bit of a trend, allowing you to enjoy the crispy texture of the coating. It seems to be inspired by the original store of non-closing katsudon in Shibuya, "Mizuto". They offer three price ranges: 1,200 yen, 3,500 yen, and 10,000 yen, which is quite a wide range. They are not selling katsudon, but rather happiness. I ordered the 3,500 yen deluxe non-closing katsudon, and although I imagined a thick cutlet, I found the cutlet to be thinner than expected. It was delicious with the sweet sauce, crispy coating, egg, and rice all blending well together.

Around 2022, there was some buzz about the "No-Cover Katsudon" and I occasionally saw it at about four chain locations. I ordered the 1,800 yen No-Cover Katsudon from the nearest Nishi-Azabu location via Uber. Although there are more expensive options, the No-Cover Katsudon was priced at 1,200 yen on the menu, so a 50% markup with Uber felt excessive. The container was very clean and easy to handle, the best I've seen for a Katsudon. The egg was delicious as well. To be honest, the katsu itself was not much different from what you'd get at a ghost kitchen through Uber. If we're talking about food delivery, the Katsudon at Tsubame in Shimbashi is on a whole other level in terms of taste. I didn't feel like the 1,800 yen through Uber was worth it, but if you happen to be in Nishi-Azabu during lunchtime and it's 1,200 yen, then it's not bad. It's not a destination-worthy meal experience.
