Located right next to Kyoto Concert Hall, this restaurant is recommended for a pre-concert meal. I had the pork cutlet set meal for 1500 yen, and the meat had just the right amount of fat and was delicious. The cabbage was coarse and tender. It seems like a couple runs the place, dividing the cooking and serving duties, and they are friendly and create a nice atmosphere. If it were nearby, I would definitely come back to this restaurant. (Notes) 1. There are options for regular and large portions of rice, but the large portion is a bit surprising as it is only a normal-sized rice bowl. 2. When the restaurant is full, there is only enough seating for two people, so if you have to wait, the third person will have to stand.

Located a 2-minute walk from Kitayama Station in Kyoto. I arrived just before 12:00, and the place was already full, so I had to wait for about 15 minutes. I had the mixed fry set with tonkatsu, ebi fry, and kisu fry. The interior has a calm atmosphere, with an elderly couple running the place. You can have up to 2 free rice refills, so even men can get full with the portion. It's also close to Kyoto Botanical Garden, making it a recommended spot for lunch after visiting the garden. I tried to visit the restaurant twice but it was full and they ran out of ingredients, so they closed early. On my third attempt, I finally got a seat at Katsuzen in Kitayama, Kyoto. It was the last day of Golden Week and it was raining, so I was able to get in easily. I ordered the loin cutlet set meal, the coating was crispy, the meat was tender and juicy, and the rice was so delicious that I ended up getting seconds.

Chibi-chan's birthday celebration was in Kyoto. When asked what he wanted for lunch, he said, "tonkatsu." He really likes it. So, we chose this place with high ratings on Tabelog. We arrived at the restaurant at 11:40, and there were already 2 groups of customers. There were only 2 table seats available, but luckily we managed to get one. We quickly placed our order. Chibi-chan ordered his usual "hirekatsu teishoku" with extra rice. The teishoku arrived at our table in about 10 minutes. Huh? I asked for extra rice, but is this all? I asked the staff, and they said, "This is the extra portion." Well, I guess this is what they consider a large portion here. Since it's all-you-can-eat rice, I'll just enjoy it. The pork cutlet was crispy and delicious. The pork was juicy, the rice was just right, and the miso soup was flavorful. I silently enjoyed my meal. Before I knew it, I had finished everything. Ah, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I'll definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

I exited from the Northyama Station's second exit and walked for one minute. It's not along Northyama Street, but one street north, so I couldn't find it right away, but the entrance had a nice traditional Japanese restaurant feel. I visited just before closing time at 7:30 pm, so I ended up being the last customer. Without hesitation, I ordered the Pork Cutlet Set (120g). The breading was crispy, and the pork was juicy, which impressed me. I realized that it was my first time having pork cutlet at a non-chain restaurant. Kyoto's pork cutlet is really good! Thank you for the meal.

During a drive one day, I had lunch consisting of tenderloin cutlet and shrimp fry set for 1680 yen. The breadcrumbs were large and crispy, and I couldn't decide whether to dip them in sauce, salt, lemon, or grated daikon radish... It was a blissful time enjoying the meal while pondering on what to pair with the dish. I ended up enjoying the dish lightly as the portion was just right. Personally, I recommend trying it with curry salt and lemon. It was a new sensation with the gentle aroma of spices and the acidity of lemon. I randomly stopped by this restaurant, but I was completely satisfied. ✨

I ordered the pork cutlet set meal for 1500 yen. The pork cutlet was 120g. You can watch the process of marinating and breading the pork at the counter after ordering. The service was quick. The cutlet was fried to a slightly rare finish, which I liked. The taste was average. Towards the end, the breading became a bit heavy, so I think a 100g cutlet for lunch would be enough.

I entered the restaurant right after opening, but there were already two groups of customers ahead of me. The atmosphere was calm, and the kitchen, run by an elderly couple, was well-maintained. I could feel the craftsmanship in everything, from the way the vegetables were cut to the presentation. I ordered the B set, which included 3 pieces of pork cutlet and 1 piece of grilled fish, along with rice, miso soup, and pickles. I ended up enjoying the cutlets without using the sauce. The price of 1,200 yen felt too cheap for the quality of the meal. I definitely want to come back. I will attach information about the parking lot and holiday schedule.

I visited a tonkatsu restaurant in Kyoto called Katsuzen! I ordered the Hirekatsu set meal for around 1600 yen. They asked me how much rice I wanted, and I requested a large portion. The Hirekatsu set meal arrived, with the breadcrumbs being a bit coarse. The Hirekatsu was delicious, especially when paired with the white rice. I decided to get a rice refill, but to my surprise, it was not free! Overall, the tonkatsu was pretty average.

On Tuesday at 12:30, I went to "Katsuzen" in Kitayama. There were two groups of customers already there. The restaurant blends naturally into the quiet streets of Kitayama. The entrance is set back and has a Japanese-style facade. I was seated at the counter, which was made of a splendid single slab of wood. I could see the owner frying the tonkatsu through the window. Unfortunately, the "A lunch set (100g of pork loin)" was already sold out, so I ordered the "B lunch set (3 pieces of fillet + 1 piece of kisu)" for 1,200 yen. It arrived in 7 minutes. It was a magnificent set meal. I dipped the kisu (sillago) in tartar sauce and took a bite. Delicious. The coarse breadcrumbs were crispy, and the kisu was fluffy. It was also tasty when dipped in the tonkatsu sauce. I took a bite of the fillet katsu. Delicious. The good quality fillet meat covered in coarse breadcrumbs was delicious. The tenderness of the meat, which can be easily bitten along with the coating, was superb. When eaten with the sauce, I couldn't stop eating rice. The rice was refillable, which was a delightful service. The miso soup was also delicious. After eating this tonkatsu, I realized that there are 10 different flavors in 10 different tonkatsu restaurants. Thank you for the meal.

It was delicious. Just like other reviews mentioned, you can enjoy tonkatsu in a very elegant atmosphere. You can see the kitchen from the counter. The lunch sets were all 1200 yen, but the pork loin lunch was sold out so I chose the three pieces of fillet and kisu fry lunch. I could see the clean oil in the large fryer from the kitchen, where the cutlets were being fried. The coating was very crispy and the taste was refreshing. It's the best. I would love to go to this restaurant many times if I have the chance.

When I came to Kyoto, there was a shop I had saved to visit but never got the chance to go. Finally, I made a friend who loves tonkatsu, so it became easier to go. The shop had an elegant atmosphere at the end of a narrow alley next to a coin parking lot. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the place. The interior was traditional, and we were seated at a table next to a courtyard. Of course, we ordered the pork loin tonkatsu. Being able to get extra rice was a dream for rice lovers. When the dish arrived, I could feel my mouth watering. The first bite was crispy with a perfect balance of sauce and sweet fat. Absolutely delicious! The sweet fat of a good pork loin tonkatsu is the best! I will definitely come back again!

I finally visited this restaurant near my house after over a year! They also had lunch menu, but being my first time here, I decided to go for the classic 140g pork cutlet set. I was a bit hesitant at first, but the crispy coating and juicy meat made me finish it in no time. The coating was light, crispy, and top quality tonkatsu.

First visit! I ordered the weekday lunch special of 100g pork cutlet. The cutlet was really delicious!! The meat was juicy and the breading was crispy. I devoured it. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is calm. It's tucked away on a side street just a short walk from the station, which adds to its charm. I would like to visit again in the evening.

I felt like eating tonkatsu, so I visited this restaurant. As I walked through the deep passage and entered the restaurant, I found that there were few seats, but I could enjoy my meal quietly and comfortably. The tonkatsu was crispy and the pork loin was tender and not too fatty, making it delicious and easy to eat. The shrimp and fillet were also tasty. I thought the kiss fish cutlet was unique. The red miso soup and pickles were a nice touch and added to the enjoyment until the end. The staff were polite and made the experience very pleasant. If you visit, I recommend trying the pork loin tonkatsu first. *You can park up to 2 cars, but please confirm beforehand. Bon appétit!

The master quietly fries tonkatsu. He does the ordinary things in an ordinary way, but his sincerity shines through. The meat is thick, elastic, and tender. There is no jaw fatigue. The coating is crispy and very light. The white rice, which can be refilled twice, is also delicious. The couple running the place show wonderful attentiveness.

As summer comes to an end, feeling a bit tired. Visited for some tonkatsu to recover from fatigue (pork contains a lot of vitamin B essential for fatigue recovery). [Access] A short distance from Kitayama Station. There are two parking spaces secured at "Castello Kitayama" located a little west of the shop. Access is quite good. [Interior] The entrance has a small corridor, with lights illuminating the floor creating a nice atmosphere. The interior has a garden (with a Shigaraki tanuki!), wooden floors, a copper sink (with a cool patina), and an elegant and calm atmosphere. No background music, so it's quiet and best suited for a peaceful dining experience. The kitchen is well managed with the chef and a female staff member. The female staff is attentive, which is a must for a tonkatsu restaurant with refills. Visited on a weekday night, with two groups of customers. The capacity includes two tables and two counter seats. They are operating with fewer seats compared to before the pandemic. There is enough space, but it would be nice to have more seats during weekend lunch hours. [Food] Ordered the 120g loin cutlet set meal (1500 yen). They ask about the rice portion first. Refills are only allowed once, so those who want to eat more should opt for the large serving. The loin cutlet is tender with just the right amount of fat for flavor. It's best enjoyed with a little salt. Salt and mustard are provided upon request. The salt is pink rock salt. The breadcrumbs are coarse, providing a crispy texture. The cutlet doesn't feel heavy, indicating good oil drainage. The vegetables include shredded cabbage, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. The red miso soup has a rich flavor. The ingredients include tofu, wakame, and enoki mushrooms. The rice is shiny and perfectly cooked, served with pickles. Overall, a satisfying meal without any flaws. [Impression] A refined tonkatsu restaurant in Kyoto's Kitayama area. The elegant atmosphere and light post-meal feeling make it stand out. Considering the ambiance and taste, the price is rare in Kyoto. Having a parking lot is also convenient. Therefore, it will likely be a choice for tonkatsu cravings in the future.

Located near Kitayama Station, this restaurant is nestled among residential areas. They open at 11:30 am and quickly fill up. The atmosphere is spacious, clean, and free of any oily smells. The cooking area is separated by glass, but ventilation is separate. I ordered the B lunch set (3 pork fillets, 1 smelt fish for 1,200 yen). You can get a large portion of rice and have seconds. I requested salt and mustard on the side. The hot tea complements the authentic taste of the tonkatsu. The pork fillet is best enjoyed with pink salt and mustard. The cabbage is thinly sliced and has a crisp texture. The lettuce pairs well with the dressing. The meat is thinly sliced, tender, and not overpowering. The smelt fish is delicious with lemon juice, salt, tartar sauce, and a flavorful sauce. The breading is crispy, the crumbs are large, and the coating is just right. It doesn't feel heavy at all. The rice is slightly soft and I opted for a large portion. The pickles are finely chopped and pickled. The highlight was the delicious red miso soup. The balance of dashi and miso is excellent. I was reminded of a similar taste I had experienced in Tokyo. I was impressed by the quality of the food and I look forward to trying the pork loin next time. Overall, this is a great place to enjoy various flavors, whether it's the meat or the fried items like shrimp and smelt fish.

Delicious. I didn't have high expectations since there isn't much competition in the area, but it's actually quite tasty. After trying out various places, I think this might be the best option.
