Whenever my wife and I visit Kyoto, we always make a point to stop by Nakamura General Store. I heard that the owner trained at Diamond Head Market & Grill near Diamond Head in Oahu, Hawaii, before opening their store in Kyoto. We visited the Oahu location this year, and I must say that the Kyoto store is much more delicious.

Nakamura General Store! The owner, who moved to Hawaii and bakes scones, creates American baked goods! I've seen their Instagram, and not only their sweets but also their gourmet dishes look amazing! The small store has a cluttered, foreign goods store-like atmosphere, which screams America! Hawaii! The blueberry cream cheese scone is a must-try! The chunks of cream cheese are delicious! I also tried the zucchini bread recommended by the owner on Instagram. The crunchy walnuts added a nice texture! The banana bread is sweet and tasty! When I cut into the peanut butter muffin, I was surprised by how rich the peanut butter was! I bought a lot, but I want to buy more. I'll definitely go back for more!

I visited the shop after seeing it featured on a TV show. I purchased Blueberry Cream Cheese Scones, Strawberry Cream Cheese Scones, Banana Cream Cheese Scones, Peanut Butter Muffins, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookies, Buttermilk Biscuits, Cornbread, and Banana Bread. The scones, which were my main target, had a unique texture of crispy on the outside and moist on the inside that I had never tasted before. All the other sweets that are not shown in the photo were delicious as well. It was a shop that made me want to go back again.

This is a shop in Karasuma Oike, Kyoto that is famous for its delicious scones. I love scones, but the scones here are like no other. They look more like American homemade cookies than scones. It's like they just took the baking tray straight out of the oven and put it on display. The rustic charm of the baked goods somehow makes them even more captivating. I just bought the "Blueberry Cream Cheese Scone" fresh out of the oven. Even after considering the fact that it's freshly baked, the moist and soft texture is reminiscent of a buttery financier. As the name suggests, it was packed with blueberries and cream cheese. It was incredibly delicious. I'll definitely go back for more.

I wanted to go to Flip Up, so I walked along Muromachi Street towards Kyoto Imperial Palace from Karasuma Oike, but it was closed. However, there was a shop nearby with a long line. It was Nakamura General Store, selling donuts and scones. The shop is said to be inspired by the general stores in Hawaii. The owner trained under the famous chef Alan Wong on Oahu Island. Everyone was buying in bulk. It was my first time, so I bought a Banana Cream Cheese Scone. I was surprised when I tried it. I'm not a big fan of scones, so I didn't have high expectations, but it was incredibly delicious. I always thought scones were dry, but these were moist and I became a fan after one bite. I regret not buying more. It was my first time having such delicious scones. I definitely want to eat them again. Highly recommended. You can also buy them at Riverside Club in Naka-Meguro, Tokyo. Thank you for the meal.

When I went around 3 PM on a weekday, the selection was quite limited. Only one type of popular cookie left, and about two muffins. Zucchini bread for ¥200 is a dark brown color, resembling chocolate, but tastes like carrot cake. It is soft and moist.

Blueberry Cream Cheese Scone - ¥330
Made with the same recipe as the popular Blueberry Cream Cheese Scone near Diamond Head in Hawaii. Although smaller than the original, it was delicious! It was easier to eat compared to the ones in Hawaii, maybe tailored for Japanese taste. The owner of the store used to work there, which is why they were able to recreate the scone. Other American sweets are also available, but they were almost sold out when I visited in the evening. Luckily, I was able to get the scones. It made me want to visit Hawaii again. Thank you for the meal!

- Blueberry and cream cheese scone 330 yen
- Carrot cake 450 yen
- Banana bread 180 yen
After a long time! I had my usual scone and the carrot cake I've been wanting to try. The scone is truly amazing. It's completely different from scones at other shops. The cream cheese is rich but not overwhelming. I always end up buying it. And the carrot cake. It was my first time seeing it in two layers. I could taste hints of orange or lemon in the cream cheese part. Carrot cakes really vary depending on the shop. This one had the spice flavor I like. I didn't take a picture, but I also bought the banana bread, which was delicious. It's such a charming American-style shop in Kyoto's Karasuma area. I love this place... I'm moving to Kanto in April, so I'll really miss it.

In December 2022, we unexpectedly decided to stop by a bakery that we hadn't planned to visit originally. My husband expressed a rare wish to go in, so we did. We chose cornbread, carrot cake, banana bread, and muffins. The carrot cake was $4.50 and surprisingly large with a good amount of sweetness. The moist cake had a nice spice flavor and chunks of ingredients, giving it a rustic American bakery vibe. The cream cheese frosting between the layers added a nice touch. The cornbread was $2.60 and had a crispy surface with a hint of sweetness. The texture of the grainy dough was delicious. The banana cake was $1.80 and had a strong banana flavor. The simple taste and affordable price left a good impression. We also tried the honey apple muffin for $2.80, and everything we had was delicious without disappointment. It's a great bakery that we would definitely visit again if it was nearby.

I visited the shop around 11:30 on a weekday and had to wait for about 10 minutes due to the limit of 3 people inside. The interior was decorated with cute American pop style. I purchased 6 items including muffins, blueberry and cream cheese scones, and it cost 1950 yen. I also bought a cute lemon cake, but when I got home, the icing had peeled off and I was very disappointed. Everything was on the sweeter side and delicious. The round and large blueberry and cheese scone was moist and sweet, with a texture similar to a muffin. It might have been the most delicious item among them all.

During my second visit around 3 pm, there were only a few scones and cakes left, and they had raised the prices! Blueberry scones and pumpkin cream cheese scones cost a total of 710 yen. As always, they were moist and delicious. They were even better when warmed up. I always forget to buy the carrot cake. Next time!

A bakery that took its name from a Hawaiian miscellaneous goods store in Kyoto. The exterior looks foreign, and inside, there are delicious baked goods lined up! Caramel pumpkin cream cheese scones, banana cream cheese scones, walnut and banana brownies, chocolate banana pie - all of them are so delicious that it's impressive! The American-style big scones are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside! The chunks of cream cheese are a nice accent. The moist chocolate batter, fruity banana, and nutty walnut blend well together. And the banana pie was a shock! The flaky pie crust, fluffy gentle cream, and the perfect match of peanut butter saltiness! The chunks of banana add more flavor! I regret not buying more from this bakery! I definitely want to go back when I visit Kyoto again!

It's an American-style pastry shop. When I went around 1 pm, brownies were already running low, but I was able to purchase an almond muffin. The topping had a crunchy texture from the almonds, and the inside was moist with almond paste, giving it a slightly nutty flavor. It was very delicious.

I had been curious about this shop for a while. It has a Hawaiian vibe. When you walk in, there are rows of baked goods. I tried the carrot cake. I could taste the spices with the first bite. The sweetness of the cream came through with the second bite. It's sweet but not too heavy. There's cream in between the layers, and the spiced cake and cream go well together. Thank you for the meal.

I wandered around the area near Karasuma Oike. There was supposed to be a popular shop around here. I arrived here before 1 pm after having lunch. When I entered, the interior was very cute. Huh? What? Most of the products are already sold out. Oh no! Somehow, I managed to get this one. It was the last one. The blueberry and cheese scone had a good balance of sweet and sour flavors, and the saltiness of the cheese matched well with the moist texture, making it very delicious. It completely changed my concept of scones. It was so delicious. I hope I can get a different scone next time. Thank you for the meal.

General stores in Hawaii are shops that are like a mix of a grocery store and a variety store, with American items like flags, cinema posters, teddy bears, toys, and baked goods like brownies, banana cake, muffins, scones, and cookies. The atmosphere feels like homemade treats from mom. The apple pie in the showcase looks delicious too. I found my favorite - biscuits. They are big, fluffy, and have a nice shape. I got them to go and they were not too sweet, more like a meal. The crumbly crust was buttery and delicious. If you want to feel happy, it's a good place to visit. Thank you for the meal.

I visited NAKAMURA GENERAL STORE, located about a 5-minute walk from Karasuma Oike in Kyoto. I had missed out on their delicious treats before, so this time I made sure to get my hands on their Blueberry Cream Cheese Scone and Banana Cream Cheese Scone. I also couldn't resist the Peanut Butter Muffin. The scones were a delightful mix of crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, packed with blueberries and cream cheese. And the Peanut Butter Muffin had a lovely nutty aroma and a generous amount of peanut butter inside. I couldn't stop eating them! I definitely want to visit again to try more of their treats. Thank you for the delicious experience!
