When I was a child, I loved the dry curry that my mother made at home. It was like a curry fried rice or curry pilaf, where curry powder was used to fry the rice. I thought this was the only type of dry curry until I encountered a different kind at a cafe called Cafe Haiti in Shinjuku. This dry curry was made with minced meat and had no sauce, unlike the one I was used to. It was a shock to discover that the dry curry I had at home was actually a different version of the original dry curry. The appearance and taste of this new dry curry were amazing, with a perfect balance of flavors and spices. I was so impressed that I visited the cafe multiple times. Unfortunately, the cafe closed down a few years ago, but it recently reopened in Nakano and then in Shinjuku. I revisited the Shinjuku branch and enjoyed the nostalgic dry curry once again. The cafe has a unique atmosphere that combines a sense of foreignness with a touch of Showa era charm. The dry curry was as delicious as I remembered, and I also recommend trying their coffee, which comes with a small bottle of rum for added flavor. The combination of the delicious dry curry and coffee was truly delightful. I felt a sense of happiness and contentment as I left the cafe, grateful for being able to reunite with the legendary dry curry that I thought I would never taste again.

When we entered the store, we were asked if we were there for a meal or for the cafe. We chose the cafe option and were told we had 30 minutes. We ordered Cafe au Lait, Iced Tea, and 2 Grape drinks since they were out of Ginger Ale and Cola. The glasses that came out were surprisingly small, and the taste was even more surprising. I ordered the Grape drink, but it tasted diluted and had a strange chemical aftertaste. My friends who ordered Cafe au Lait and Iced Tea also found them to be watery and unpleasant. We tried each other's drinks and were at a loss for words. Looking at reviews, the curry seemed to be good, so it seems like the cafe is not the main focus of this place. It made me think that they should stop calling themselves a cafe if they are not welcoming cafe customers.

I went to a famous dry curry restaurant with my partner after work, but the portion was not enough! The spicy and delicious dry curry went well with the firm rice, but even if we ordered a large portion, it wouldn't have been enough. Maybe that's just how it is with cafe meals, but the coffee was also delicious.

Custard pudding with coffee for ¥1100. There was only custard pudding left for dessert. It was very soft and liquid-like, with a texture similar to cream cheese. The flavor was not very strong, somewhat sweet and refreshing. Both the dessert and coffee were smaller than expected, so the cost performance was not great.

Haitian curry at Cafe Haiti in Shinjuku Subnade. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of Shinjuku Subnade, and I enjoyed Haitian curry at Cafe Haiti, which has been around since the opening. Haitian curry, like the original dry curry, is a well-known curry that only a few people know about. Thank you for the delicious meal today.

Around 8:00 pm, I visited the restaurant alone and it was empty at first, but soon other customers arrived. The owner warmly welcomed me. I quickly decided on the dry curry and drink set for 1210 yen. I had already decided on this today. The interior of the restaurant has a unique atmosphere, not like a commercial facility, with interesting use of sculptures and lighting. The curry arrived in about 5 minutes after ordering. It was a light dish, even for a woman. The curry had a slight sweetness and acidity, giving it a fresh taste. It was not overly sweet, with a mature flavor and spiciness. The amount of rice was just right. It was easy to eat, and I finished it in about 5 minutes. The owner was attentive, constantly refilling my water. When I finished eating, she asked if I wanted coffee, which arrived promptly. Despite it being summer, I got a hot coffee in a cute, chubby mug. It looked like a small amount due to the size of the mug, but it was a normal serving when I drank it. It had a rich flavor but was smooth, with little bitterness or acidity, making it very easy to drink. I overheard that the lemon cake was recommended but sold out. I didn't have time to order more, but I'll try the lemon cake next time. The cheesecake is also recommended for its citrusy flavor, but it seems that all the cakes are prone to selling out. Cash payment seemed to be preferred. Subnade is easy to use even on rainy days, so I would like to visit again for lunch or other occasions.

Dry curry coffee set for 1210 yen. I asked the friendly and efficient waiter to make the dry curry 2/3 of the normal portion so I wouldn't get sleepy in the afternoon. Instead of the usual 180g of rice, I requested 120g. It was a nostalgic experience for those in their 50s, with a Showa-era vibe. The interior had a dark brown floor, chairs, and tables with a retro feel. When I placed my order, the waiter cheerfully said, "I'll make it for you," and headed to the kitchen. I was surprised that the dish wasn't already prepared and just needed to be served on top of rice. I could hear the sound of stirring in a frying pan with a wooden spatula. It was my first time having lunch at this place, and I was pleased to find that it wasn't too crowded for a weekday in Shinjuku. When the dish was brought to my table, the waiter said, "Here it is after making it 2/3 of the usual portion." The minced meat was finely ground and seasoned well, making it delicious and not something I would get tired of eating every day.

Located in Shinjuku Subnade near the east exit of Shinjuku Station, this restaurant offers dry curry. I ordered the Haitian-style dry curry with coffee for 1210 yen (tax included). The curry, made with minced meat, is spread flat over the rice. Although it may look small, the flavor is intense and spicy. The minced meat is so delicious that you'll find yourself quickly finishing it with a spoon. It's perfect for when you want a light meal. Overall, it was delicious. Recommended!

Haitian-style dry curry with coffee, delicious Nakano restaurant. I remember there was also a set with a soft-boiled egg on top, which might be a good choice. However, the portion size is small. They might offer a large rice option, but the curry seems to be lacking. It was a Saturday after a June typhoon, and I was the first customer at 11:30. Even at around 12:00, it still felt relaxed.

This time, I visited the Shinjuku store for the first time. Although there are quite a few seats, it seems like they are being managed by one person. I ordered the Keema curry coffee set with a mini salad. The salad is made with freshly picked vegetables, including arugula and wasabi greens, as the cheerful female store manager explained. The curry was delicious as always. My wife wanted to try the cake, so we ordered the lemon cake, which came in a pack of nine and was very juicy. It was one of the most delicious cakes I've ever had. I was impressed by their commitment to using natural ingredients. The coffee was also delicious. However, the rumored brandy scent was forgotten, which was amusing. The food was delicious, the store manager was fun, so I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!

Lunch on 05/16 at Café Haiti Shinjuku Subnade Store. Had the Haitian-style dry curry with coffee for 1,210 yen, paid in cash. Good service and fast delivery, but overall nothing special. I felt a gap between the expectations of a long-established store and the reality. The iced coffee was good, but it was hard to believe the reputation of the dry curry.

I had some extra time before going to the movies, so I decided to stop by Cafe Haiti to kill some time. It was after 3 PM, so it wasn't crowded. I ordered a double blend coffee in a large mug, as a single would be only half the amount. The coffee had a nice balance of acidity and a refreshing taste. I really like the blue mug they use here, so much so that I bought a similar one (mine is Hagi ware). I bought coffee beans last time, but this time I had to pass as I was going to watch a movie next. Thank you for the meal!

I went to Cafe Haiti Shinjuku Subnade store ☆.。.:*・ I ordered ▷▶︎▷◆ Onsen Tamago Special (¥1540-) ・ Keema Curry with Onsen Tamago topping ・ Mini Salad or Dessert ・ Original Blend Coffee (Iced or Hot) ☆.。.:*・ The store is located in Shinjuku Subnade, and there is also one in Nishi-Shinjuku, but the owner said that our store has more attention to detail! The taste is completely different! I'm curiousーーーー The interior of the store uses local furniture and pays attention to the decor. The atmosphere is excellent, so it's recommended for girls' gatherings and dates. The dessert menu changes every time, so it's meaningless to take pictures, I was told. The Onsen Tamago Special seems to stay the same. It's exciting that the dessert changes every time I go, and I fell in love with it after just one visit. ・ ───── ✾ ───── ・ ✩.*˚ Suitable for various occasions, from solo dining to dates and girls' gatherings ◎ ✩.*˚ Attention to detail in desserts ・ ───── ✾ ───── ・ ▫️ Review Keema Curry is very rich. It's a new taste! A delicious curry with the condensed umami of meat and vegetables! It becomes milder with the egg and even more delicious. The dessert was Häagen-Dazs Mango and Coffee Jelly. They said that Häagen-Dazs Mango is not usually sold, it's only for commercial use, so I ordered it! I didn't know about it, but I love Häagen-Dazs, and I enjoyed it deliciously! The combination of curry and coffee at this cafe, with its exotic atmosphere, is really wonderful. The female owner has a lovely vibe too! The curry is delicious, but the portion size is a bit small so it might not be filling enough for men. They served a hot coffee at just the right time after the meal. I usually prefer lattes, but the black coffee here was also easy to drink.

Visited for a late lunch around 3 pm with dry curry and coffee for 1210 yen. Was able to enter the restaurant smoothly. The spiciness is not too strong, so I think it's a taste that everyone would enjoy. The portion felt a bit small, so those who eat a lot might want to go for the large serving option. The level of spices was just right and had a comforting taste. It was delicious, but a taste that you can't replicate at home. I also had a hot coffee after the meal, which was delicious as well. If you like coffee with low acidity, you would enjoy it. Personally, I wish there was a bit more quantity for the price, but it was a taste that would make me want to come back again. The atmosphere of the restaurant is unique and enjoyable.

I visited Cafe Haichi, a curry restaurant I had heard about before. Without hesitation, I ordered the curry lunch set. The fragrant curry aroma was delightful, but the real highlight was the coffee! It had a refreshing taste without any bitterness, which seems to be a specialty here. I usually enjoy plain black coffee during work, but I could drink endless cups of this coffee. It truly enhanced my holiday lunch experience. Thank you for the delicious meal.

◼️◼️◼️【Order】Onsen Tamago Special 1,540 yen Onsen Tamago Dry Curry + Mini Salad or Seasonal Ice Cream + Original Blend Coffee (Hot or Iced)◼️◼️◼️【Wait】No wait at 13:00 on weekdays, 50% occupancy inside Enjoy Haitian home cooking at this cozy café ☕ I came for the Dry Curry, so I added the Onsen Tamago set with coffee. Without the Onsen Tamago, it's only 940 yen, which is a good deal.◼️◼️◼️【Taste】As I admired the atmospheric interior, the food arrived! Freshly cooked rice, morning-picked salad, and a cheerful mother figure make me nostalgic for old-fashioned coffee shops. The curry is rich and flavorful, with a crunchy texture from the onions and firm ground meat adding depth and deliciousness. The slightly chunky texture becomes addictive. Mixing in the Onsen Tamago later on makes it milder and equally delicious. The Haitian coffee after the meal is low in bitterness and has a fragrant aroma, making it easy to drink.◼️◼️◼️【Impression】Since the mother was running the shop by herself, this is a place where you can relax and want to help out. You can enjoy unique Haitian cuisine in a distinctive setting that you won't find elsewhere.

Dinner on February 20, 2023 (Monday). I was in Shinjuku until the evening and decided to have a meal there. I had noticed it a while ago, but there is a Café Haiti in Shinjuku Subnade, so I decided to go there. Haiti used to be in the basement of Ron Ron in Kichijoji, and I liked their unique dry curry, so I used to go there often. It's been a while since I last had a meal in Subnade. Probably about 30 years ago (laughs). There were two groups of three customers before me. I sat down and ordered the Haiti-style dry curry (with coffee) (1,210 yen). I chose hot coffee. The curry that came out was the type of dry curry with minced meat curry on top of rice. It's a sweet curry with minced meat and onions fried and the moisture removed. It was good, but I feel like the Haiti dry curry I had in Kichijoji before had a stronger flavor. The coffee that came out after the meal was the same. It felt a little lighter than the Haiti coffee I remembered. When I told the mother who runs the shop alone that I used to frequent the Kichijoji store, she talked to me about various things. Haiti's main base is in Shinjuku Nishiguchi, and there were once four stores. The founder worked part-time at a restaurant called Haiti near Hokkaido University in Sapporo, where a Haitian person was managing, went to Haiti for a while, came back to Japan, and founded it in 1974. The Kichijoji store was managed by Ron Ron's management company and closed after a few years. I was also at the Kichijoji store for a while, and the famous artist Kazuo Umezu used to come there often, she nostalgically told me. Today, the news of the death of Leiji Matsumoto. Also, news of President Biden's surprise visit to Kyiv was reported.

A very rare Haitian-style dry curry and coffee set at a shop in Seibu Shinjuku Line Subnade. The dry curry is small in portion and suitable as a light snack. The rice was a bit dry and the curry was average, which was disappointing. The coffee, according to the manager, is "easy to drink with little acidity," and it's true. Even those who don't like the initial bitterness of coffee won't mind this one. The coffee was delicious. The interior of the shop is filled with a foreign atmosphere with paintings of Haiti and wooden monuments.

On this sunny autumn day, I decided to visit Shinjuku Gyoen after a long time. After walking around the garden, I tried to find a place for lunch in the city, but popular spots like Tsunahachi, Shinjuku Nakamuraya, and various restaurants in the Isetan department store had long lines, so I gave up. It seems that with the lifting of restrictions and travel support, the crowds have been unusually high lately. I ended up finding a less crowded place in the underground shopping area called "Shinjuku Subnade," which still retains a Showa-era atmosphere. I remembered that there was a Café Haitch in Subnade, so I decided to give it a try. I had visited their Shinjuku Center Building and the now-closed Kawasaki Lufthansa locations before, but this was my first time at this particular store. It had been about four years since I last visited any Café Haitch. It was close to 2 pm and surprisingly I was able to get a table for two without waiting. The shop was run by a somewhat brusque female owner(?) who seemed to be managing everything alone. I ordered the signature Dry Curry for 1250 yen, which came with a choice of hot or iced coffee. I chose iced coffee. I remember the price being under 900 yen four years ago, so I looked it up and found that the prices have increased even more recently. The Dry Curry arrived after a 7-8 minute wait. The portion seemed smaller compared to four years ago, but it could just be my memory. The taste was the same as before, with the perfect balance of curry sauce thickness, spiciness, and flavor. However, despite the taste being good, I felt a bit unsatisfied with the portion size for the price of 1250 yen. If I were to visit Café Haitch again, I would prefer the Shinjuku Center Building location.

I decided to have lunch in Shinjuku today and ended up at Café Haiti. Established in 1974, this place is a longstanding establishment from the time when Shinjuku Subnade was built, known as the originator of dry curry. I ordered the classic Haiti-style dry curry with a coffee set. As always, the curry was delicious and I was very satisfied. The coffee served after the meal had a hint of rum, adding to the atmosphere of Haiti in South America.
