At the end of November, the cafe will be closed, but the bar will remain open. I couldn't wait to try their Mont Blanc shaved ice, so I headed to Kyoto. The place was not crowded, and I found a lovely shop using a traditional townhouse. The shaved ice was light and fluffy, with a delicate syrup sauce that had a hint of rum. Topped with chocolate, candied chestnuts, and cinnamon cookies, it was like a parfait. The chestnut flavor was light and refreshing, making it a delightful drink. Although there are more shaved ice shops in Gion, this place was special. I hope they will reopen someday.

During a break on my business trip in Kyoto, I went cafe hunting and found this place where they hand-bake rice crackers that I saw on Instagram. I ordered the set of 5 types of fresh rice crackers with dips, along with a special roasted green tea for ¥1,300. They bake the fresh rice crackers in front of you and you can dip them in seaweed or cream cheese. The heater in front of me was unexpectedly lacking in atmosphere (with exposed cords), which was a bit disappointing. The ambiance inside the cafe was wonderful. Thank you for the meal.

At "Tenso" in September 2018, there were no desserts available, so we decided to have shaved ice instead. The shaved ice we had was the "Matcha Uji Kanjou" flavor. My wife loves matcha shaved ice, so she enjoyed it a lot. I, on the other hand, had the seasonal peach shaved ice, which looked delicious and was indeed very satisfying.

The restaurant was recommended in a Kyoto guidebook and marked. After having French cuisine for lunch in Gion, the chef recommended visiting this place for shaved ice. Upon arrival, we received a ticket and were informed of the serving time, then returned later. We were seated on the second floor, where the interior was lovely with comfortable sofa seats. I tried the chocolate mint shaved ice, which was fluffy and had large chocolate pieces on top. As I ate, I discovered rich and delicious raw chocolate inside. It's a must-try for chocolate and chocolate mint lovers. I also tried a bit of my friend's pineapple coconut shaved ice, which had a tropical vibe with coconut milk and a bavarian cream filling. It was lightly sweet and perfect for summer. I would definitely like to visit this place again.

I revisited this place because the shaved ice I had last time was delicious. Despite the late hour, the seats were quite full, so we were guided to the second floor. This time, I ordered the matcha shaved ice, which was not as appealing as the previous season's flavors. The fluffy shaved ice was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Located on the north side of Gion's Yasakakai-kan, this place is tucked away down a narrow back alley off Hanami Koji. It's a sophisticated space where you can enjoy tea during the day and drinks at night. I've been here a few times, mainly for their shaved ice. I love seasonal fruit shaved ice, so this time I came specifically for the peach flavor! I arrived just before noon and got a ticket for the 2 PM slot, so I went for lunch and returned in time. I sat at the counter and ordered the peach shaved ice. Oh, it's here! This peach shaved ice is delicious! It's fluffy and the peach flavor is amazing. Ah, it was so delicious. Thank you for the meal.

During a trip to Kyoto for shaved ice, I visited "Gion NITI" where they use natural ice from Nikko called "Nikko Natural Ice 4th Generation Tokujiro" passed down by Yuichiro Yamamoto and his friends. Since opening in July 2010, they quickly rose to the top of shaved ice shops in Kansai. When I visited after 3 years in September 2012, I noticed that about 95% of the customers were women. One woman at a neighboring table, who looked like a friend who recently climbed Mount Fuji, had already finished eating the "fig" flavor that I ordered, and as soon as I started eating, she ordered the next "matcha sweet potato" and then the third "mojito" before I finished. Even though I didn't get a headache from eating quickly at this shop with Nikko natural ice, she ate at lightning speed without any sign of slowing down, probably a renowned shaved ice gourmet in Kansai. But since I'm shy, introverted, and not good at talking, I quickly left the shop after finishing my own shaved ice.

Looking for some respite from the heat on Hanami Koji in Kyoto, I visited "Gion NITI". The hanging flag at the entrance saying "Tea and Okaki" is lovely. I went up to the 2nd floor and found a calm private room with a traditional Japanese atmosphere. The "Abekawa Mochi" was sprinkled with walnuts and served with black syrup. The mochi was very soft, almost like a "tare panda" lying flat on the plate. The combination of kinako powder, fragrant walnuts, and elegant black syrup was irresistible for kinako mochi lovers. I'm not sure about the difference between Abekawa Mochi and kinako mochi (lol). The shaved ice was "Awayuki natural ice shaved ice Matcha Uji Kanjou". The ice was not crunchy but rather soft and melted on the tongue. Despite being labeled as natural ice, I couldn't help but think about how elegant and luxurious the production process must be. As I enjoyed the strong bitterness of the matcha, I suddenly realized that there was no sweet potato paste topping? It turns out it wasn't forgotten, as it was hidden inside along with condensed milk jelly. The taste, creativity, and location of the restaurant were all outstanding. Thank you for the delicious meal! (^^)

Located a little off the beaten path from Gion Hanami Koji, this restaurant has a modern and stylish atmosphere with classy music playing in the background, creating a relaxing space. Their shaved ice made from natural ice is exceptional! Both the Uji Matcha Kinako and Milk Kinako flavors were incredibly delicious. Check out their Instagram page at kuidaore.8 for more information.

The receptionist's attitude was arrogant and cold. Especially towards foreign visitors. The syrup on the shaved ice was lacking in matcha flavor and overall disappointing. I will never go there again.

I visited this place during my sightseeing. The staff are okay with English, so it seems popular among foreigners as well. The deliciousness is definitely understandable. Towards the end, my head started to hurt a bit, but I would recommend it for dates as well.

I finally made it. I got a numbered ticket and waited for about 2 and a half hours. The seasonal shaved ice flavor was watermelon. It tasted so much like watermelon that it made me laugh. It was delicious.

The food was delicious and the ambiance was also lovely! Matcha and milk shaved ice are often too sweet to finish, but I didn't get tired of it and was able to enjoy it until the end!

I don't think there are many shops where you can enjoy shaved ice in such a relaxed manner... Just that makes this shop quite special.

The place is a famous spot in Kyoto, Gion. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful with a luxurious counter and table sofas, creating a relaxed atmosphere. I had made a reservation for 9 pm but arrived late, yet I was greeted warmly. During the day, it seems to operate as a cafe, but I visited during bar time. The drink menu was extensive and the pizza spaghetti was delicious. The staff at the restaurant were also proficient in English.
