食いしん坊 どりとる
In the Nihonbashi area, my colleague and I were discussing how there aren't many delicious katsudon restaurants around, when my colleague excitedly exclaimed that they had found something interesting. That turned out to be the cold katsudon from Katsuyoshi. Curious, I decided to go for lunch and check it out. Located on the 6th floor of Takashimaya Annex, the restaurant had a classy interior with Arita porcelain decorations and classical piano music playing in the background. I ordered the cold katsudon without hesitation. You can choose between pork loin and pork fillet, and I went with the pork loin. Initially, I thought 2000 yen was a bit expensive for a unique katsudon, but the 110g pork loin was cooked at a low temperature. The breadcrumbs were fine, and on top of the katsu were grated yam, plum, refreshing okra, cucumber, and shiso leaves. The combination of grated yam, plum, and the finely cooked pork loin was amazing. The crushed ice dashi was exquisite, with a strong bonito and kelp flavor enveloping the ingredients. Wasabi was also provided for flavor variation, but the combination of grated yam, plum, and the pork loin cooked at a low temperature with the dashi was already perfect. I opted for extra rice, but the portion was elegant and easy to finish quickly. The dashi gradually thickened as I ate, and by the end, the ice had completely melted. The dish seemed very well thought out and refined. It's surprising that this cold katsudon has been around for 20 years. The restaurant's website mentions that they rinse freshly cooked rice in cold water to make it, which I found interesting. Just like tonkatsu, you can get unlimited cabbage salad, and the yuzu soy dressing on the table was delicious. This dressing, along with the two types of tonkatsu sauce (regular and spicy), are made by Tsukihoshi Foods in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture. It's no wonder these sauces are essential in many households. Despite the heat today, I would love to try this dish again when the temperature in Tokyo reaches 35°C. Thank you for the meal.
