Located on the left-hand side in the middle of the Jizo-dori shopping street, this stylish shop can be entered from Sugamo Station. I saw a flyer for pre-ordering the French New Year cake, Galette des Rois, when passing by at the end of the year, so I made a reservation and picked it up on December 31st. The takeout bag costs 5 yen each.
Galette des Rois M (2,916 yen) and S (1,620 yen) are available. The ingredients include wheat flour, unsalted butter, sugar, eggs, almonds, margarine, rum, alcohol, salt, cornstarch, emulsifier, flavoring, antioxidant, coloring (contains wheat, eggs, dairy products). The expiration date was January 4th.
For safety reasons, the cake contains almonds instead of a feve, with the feve provided separately. There are two different feves in the two cakes, each accompanied by a paper crown. The crown is a size that even children can't wear, just place it on your head. It was said that the S size is for 2 people and the M size is for 4 people, so I bought one of each for 6 people, but when I opened the box, it was bigger than expected! The M size was just right for 6 cuts. The S size was eaten by 4 people the next day.
The upper part of the dough is a crispy pie crust that crumbles when cut with a fork. In the middle, there is a rich almond cream with a subtle sweetness and a strong rum aroma. The almond cream is delicious - the aroma of rum is strong, but it didn't bother the children. The bottom pie crust is moist. I ate the difficult upper crust first, then the almond cream and bottom crust together. The subtle sweetness and variety of flavors make it not tiring, but since it is a pie crust, one cup at a time is enough. It was a good decision to eat it over two days.
