The prices are reasonable, and you can enjoy the taste and service of a Kyoto traditional restaurant. The landlady's service is excellent. Truly a top-class restaurant in Kyoto. However, the service from the part-time staff is just average. It feels like there's not much that can be done about that these days. The taste is comforting and heartwarming, making you feel better after eating. It's incredibly delicious, but maybe it's a taste that you can only appreciate after your 40s.

I had dinner here for a work meeting and it was delicious. The Japanese sake was also excellent and paired well with the food. The dessert shaved ice was amazing too! The dishes were all very generous in portion size!

For dinner on this day, we revisited Zenza for the first time in 6 years. It was the end of the year and we were the only customers, essentially having the place to ourselves and being seated in a private room. Even Zenza was in this state, so it seems that Kyoto's traditional restaurants are struggling with customer numbers due to the pandemic. I hope they can hang in there until it's over. We had reserved the course for 10,500 yen per person on this day. Each dish was wonderful in appearance and taste, and we enjoyed seasonal Kyoto cuisine with sake. (We couldn't finish the last dish of sea bream rice, so we had it made into onigiri to take home.) The hostess who served us was bright and provided great service even in this situation, making our time enjoyable. Zenza is a must-visit when I come to Kyoto next time. Thank you for the feast. I will come again on my next trip to Kyoto.

I visited for the first time in two and a half years since the COVID-19 pandemic calmed down. The neighboring room seemed to be hosting a reception between a professor from a local university and a businessperson from Tokyo, and the host seemed overly excited, making it a bit awkward to listen to. I thought it would have been better to sit at the counter seat where you can watch the owner cook. Also, after visiting for several years, I started to feel like the seasonal dishes haven't changed much over the years. I hope they can introduce some new menu items little by little. If I have the chance, I will visit again.

This restaurant always serves delicious food whenever I go. I think the broth is just different. The rice cooked in an earthenware pot is also delicious. Whenever I go to Kyoto, I feel like going there.

It was my first visit to this restaurant. The stone pavement from the entrance to the entrance was cool because it had been sprinkled with water and I had been walking in the scorching sun. Although I could have used the tatami room, I chose to sit at the counter. I started with a first course of shiso incense-seared tofu with ikura and okra, followed by an assortment of dishes including watercress and chrysanthemum simmered in shiitake mushrooms, octopus tempura, sea bream sushi, gingko nuts, abalone, and more. The meal also included a bowl of hamo soup, assorted sashimi, grilled swordtip squid, and a delicious tai meshi cooked in a clay pot. The meal ended with red bean soup, ice cream, and matcha. It was my first visit, but I enjoyed chatting with the chef and his wife, and they even saw me off until I turned the corner.

Michelin one-star. When you take a taxi north from Kyoto Station, you'll arrive in front of the restaurant for about 1,000 yen. Known for its cost performance, the restaurant maintains its reputation even after receiving a Michelin star. They offer three courses priced at 7,000 yen, 10,000 yen, and 13,000 yen, each featuring carefully crafted dishes using seasonal ingredients. While the courses may vary in offerings like Matsuba crab or rice preparation, the quality and attention to detail remain consistent. Unlike other Kyoto restaurants with unclear pricing for food and drinks, this restaurant provides transparent billing. With a reservation, it's definitely worth a visit.

Eating Lognese in Kyoto Edition...Continued...After finishing buying bread at Croissant, I checked the time and it was just before noon. The meeting with "Kyoto Gourmet Taxi" was scheduled for exactly 12 o'clock. The meeting place was on the south side of Kyoto Station, and I realized I wouldn't make it in time, so I contacted them by phone and we met at the City Hall instead. There, we exchanged greetings again. The person's name was Mr. Iwama, a very friendly person who seemed to really enjoy eating. I was looking forward to it. After parking our car here, we switched to the "Kyoto Gourmet Taxi" and headed to the first destination, a Japanese restaurant. That was here!! Mr. Iwama's recommendation, "Glutaku". It's also a Michelin one-star restaurant. We were guided into the restaurant and taken to a private room at the back with a sunken kotatsu table. This was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant has been in business for 10 years, and the interior is new and clean. The hostess was also young and beautiful. Very likable. We had ordered the lunch course, so the dishes started coming out right away. First, we toasted with "Budou Club" grape juice. The dishes served were as follows: "Appetizer" - a thin tofu made from fresh sea urchin and kudzu. The taste of the beans was strong. "Hassun" - white radish and sesame vinegar, sea bream temari sushi, sea bream roe, miso-pickled bamboo shoots, and sweetfish in the center. "Soup" - sea bream shirako tofu with shiitake mushrooms. The dashi flavor was prominent, very Kyoto-style. "Sashimi" - bonito, red sea bream, needle squid. Served with salt and soy sauce. "Grilled dish" - grilled salted sea bass. The flesh was tender and delicious. The salt was also mild. "Simmered dish" - taro, pumpkin, octopus, butterbur, etc. "Rice" - miso soup with rich bonito broth. When you top the white rice with dried young sardines, it becomes even more delicious. "Dessert" - I initially thought it was fresh watermelon, but it turned out to be watermelon jelly. The presentation and taste were excellent!! The course progressed at a good pace for about 1.5 hours. As I had heard beforehand, the dishes had a light Kyoto-style flavor but a solid umami from the dashi. The quality of the ingredients also showed the skill of the chef. Truly, a promising new restaurant. I was satisfied. Finally, we took a group photo at the entrance. We had a great time. Thank you to the chef, hostess, and staff. I will visit again at a more leisurely pace. Thank you for the meal. 2016.05 on Tabelog with a rating of 3.58 points.

Kyoto Gourmet Taxi, let's go! \(^o^)/ I've been wanting to be guided by the Gourmet Taxi (Glutaku) for many years. The fee is 4000 yen per hour, and you have to rent it for at least 3 hours. Let's leave the afternoon entirely to Mr. Iwama, the Glutaku who knows Kyoto inside and out! First, let's have lunch at this place, Yoki Kana. It's a 2-minute walk from Marutamachi Station. It's a traditional Kyoto kaiseki restaurant located in a renovated machiya. This year marks its 10th anniversary, and the interior is still new and beautiful. The tables are sunken, so it's comfortable for your legs! This restaurant is particularly particular about using water (well water) for its dashi. First, for drinks, since we drove to Kyoto, we'll go alcohol-free. We'll share a bottle of Grape Club for 2200 yen among 4 people. It's said that the taste is just like regular wine even though it's non-alcoholic. Cheers! Now, let's enjoy the Michelin-starred cuisine. First dish: Tofu made with fresh sea urchin and kudzu. The hassun includes white radish vinegared in sesame, sea bream temari sushi, sea bream roe, miso-pickled bamboo shoots, and young sea bream. Sea bream tofu soup with shirako. Sashimi: sea bream with salt, needle squid, bonito. Grilled sea bass with salt. One-sun beans: butterbur, taro, octopus, all with gentle seasoning and delicious taste. Rice, pickles, furikake, miso soup. The rice is incredibly delicious! For dessert, it's not a real watermelon yet! It's a jelly made to look like a watermelon! This surprised all 4 of us from Food Loggers! Wow, delicious! Everyone's so excited! The owner trained for many years at the long-established Gion ryotei Torii Honke. Next time, I'd like to sit at the counter and enjoy a leisurely night! According to the Glutaku, Kyoto's flavors are subtle, so they may not resonate with people from Kanto. I'm not from Kanto, but yes, the flavors were subtle. However, I understand the emphasis on dashi! Being a Michelin one-star means there's still room for growth for this restaurant! If you're free, please visit Princess Cinderella's blog too. Yoki Kana Kyoto, 44-3 Muromachi-dori Toyokawa-agaru, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Tel: 075-222-1875, Closed on Wednesdays, 17:00-20:00 (LO), Lunch requires advance reservation.

This time, the members of the foodie group "Taberogenese" hopped on a gourmet taxi in Kyoto, driven by the driver Iwama-san, who will take them to delicious restaurants around the city. The gourmet taxi is very popular and reservations are in high demand! It must be rented for at least 3 hours at a rate of 4,000 yen per hour. It's a great deal for a group of four people! Highly recommended. Iwama-san, the driver, arrived at the meeting place and he seemed to be a foodie and a talkative person. He knows Kyoto inside out and is very friendly. He took us to a Kyoto cuisine restaurant for lunch, as per our request for a place where we could eat for around 5,000 yen. Here is what we had: [Appetizer] Thin tofu made with kudzu starch, served with fresh sea urchin. [Assorted Appetizers] White radish salad with sesame vinegar, sea bream sushi, sea bream roe, miso-pickled bamboo shoots, and young rockfish. [Soup] Tofu with sea bream milt. [Sashimi] Bonito, red sea bream, and needle squid. [Grilled Dish] Grilled sea bass with salt, and one-inch beans. [Simmered Dish] Taro, pumpkin, octopus, and butterbur sprouts. [Rice, Miso Soup, Pickles] [Dessert] Watermelon jelly The course started with light dishes and gradually became richer in flavor. The broth was rich and flavorful. Even though it was May, the watermelon jelly dessert made us feel the early summer vibes. Thank you for the delicious meal! I wonder where Iwama-san will take us next time?

I had a meal at Kyoto Yuyake Zenya, which has been awarded one Michelin star in the Michelin Guide Kansai. The restaurant was opened in 2007 by Mr. Yoshiaki Sasai, who had accumulated years of experience at the Gion's long-established restaurant Toriimoto. It is located in a renovated Kyoto machiya, quietly standing in a narrow alley not far from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Upon entering, there is a stone-paved approach leading from the gate to the entrance of the restaurant. There are counter seats for six people with red lacquer and tatami mat seating, and we chose a private tatami room overlooking a small garden. The room was beautifully decorated with seasonal flowers, creating a serene atmosphere. The seating area had a sunken kotatsu table, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal comfortably. We started with a toast of plum wine and had the 7000 yen kaiseki course. The dishes were beautifully presented and showcased the delicate flavors of seasonal ingredients. Each dish was meticulously prepared and truly delicious. The clear and elegant dashi soup with eggs, hijiki seaweed, and shrimp was a standout. The sashimi of tuna, firefly squid, and sea bream from Akashi had a firm texture and a perfect balance of flavors. The simmered dish of bamboo shoots, butterbur sprouts, and kelp was delicate and flavorful. The grilled cherry salmon had a crispy skin and a tender, fatty flesh. The vinegared dish of scallops, mantis shrimp, and strawberry with egg yolk vinegar was smooth and tangy. The steamed dish of red sea bream, conger eel, and lily bulb with mochi rice cake had a lovely aroma of cherry blossoms. The meal was completed with a bowl of fluffy, shiny rice made from locally grown Koshihikari rice. The dessert of candied fruit tomatoes with mint jelly was a refreshing end to the meal. I highly recommend Kyoto Yuyake Zenya for its traditional Kyoto cuisine prepared by a seasoned chef in a charming Kyoto townhouse setting. The warm and welcoming hospitality of the owners added to the overall wonderful dining experience.
