I wanted to eat soba, but when I came to Ootoya, I found out that soba was no longer on the menu. It's a tragedy! This will make me visit Ootoya less often. Also, the drink bar system has changed, now you have to choose between ordering a single drink or a set. The set option is cheaper, which is good, but the UI on the tablet menu is not user-friendly. I accidentally ordered a single drink instead of a set and ended up paying much more. They should make it clearer on the menu how to order the set with the drink bar. On the positive side, they added my favorite coffee jelly to the menu, but they removed the cheap ice cream. Dessert options have their pros and cons. Overall, the menu changes in June were not favorable, with soba and mini curry being removed, and the system being inconvenient. However, the staff kindly corrected the drink bar price for me. The staff at the restaurant were great, it's not their fault.

I visited "Ootoya Sugamo Ekimae Store" around 8:00 PM on a certain day in March 2021. Located on the 2nd floor of a mixed-use building just a 1-minute walk from Sugamo Station, the relatively spacious restaurant was about 90% full of customers. Due to limited dining options during shortened business hours, it was quite busy. I sat alone at a table and ordered the "Grilled Mackerel Set Meal" for ¥840 with multigrain rice using the touch panel. It was served after about 10 minutes. The perfectly sized grilled mackerel came with spinach and grated daikon radish. Along with rice, miso soup, and pickles, it was a simple yet satisfying meal. The mackerel had just the right amount of fat and was cooked perfectly. When eaten with grated daikon radish and soy sauce, it made for a wonderful dish that went well with rice. Eating the spinach in between enhanced the perfect combination of dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed the mackerel with the flavorful miso soup and easy-to-eat multigrain rice. I finished the meal, which had just the right amount of portion. The restaurant was quite crowded, making it less comfortable, but I was satisfied with the quality of the set meal.

Chicken cutlet simmered dish at Ootoya is always my go-to choice whenever I visit. I've loved this menu since high school. My friends usually go for the soba and katsudon set or the Ootoya set meal. It's nice that you can choose between white rice or multigrain rice, and the free option for extra rice is a great bonus!

I recently went to the Ootoya restaurant located just a 1-minute walk from Sugamo Station North Exit on the JR Yamanote Line. Ootoya has been quite a topic of conversation lately, and I sometimes come here for lunch. This time, I tried the Charcoal-Grilled Chicken with Green Onion Sauce set meal (1.5 times the meat portion) with natto as a topping. You can choose between white rice and five-grain rice, and I opted for the five-grain rice. However, the food took a bit long to come out... I waited for about 20 minutes even though I was short on time. The set meal itself was delicious, and I would like to eat here again, but I would be happier if the waiting time could be a bit shorter.

After returning from Okinawa, I had a sudden craving for rice and miso soup. Even though I hadn't been overseas. My stomach was tired of Okinawa soba and sata andagi. But I didn't feel like cooking during summer vacation. So, my family of four rode our bikes to a restaurant in Sugamo. I was tempted by the 2500 yen unagi bowl, but ended up choosing the grilled mackerel set meal. I ordered extra multigrain rice. The grilled mackerel was substantial and satisfying with its rich flavor. I'm not sure about the nutritional benefits of multigrain rice, but it made me feel healthy. The miso soup, after a long time, was a bit salty. Maybe I should have stirred it before eating. The side dishes included simmered hijiki and wakame, as well as eggplant and spinach ohitashi. The menu was varied, and Ootoya is a lifesaver when you're in a pinch. Thank you for the meal.

Long time no see. I didn't know I could order on a tablet, so I'm a bit rusty. I ordered the pork loin cutlet set meal with mixed grain rice. It cost 930 yen. It's a traditional cutlet set meal. There's a lemon on the side with a small dish of salt. Oh, do I start with the salt here too? Okay, got it. Dressing for the cabbage, sauce for the cutlet, lemon, mustard, and sansho pepper salt. Miso soup. The cutlet is fried in a refined manner. It looks decent. I take a bite without anything on it. The meat has a moderate texture. It's subtly sensual. They say to eat it with salt, so I try the sansho pepper salt, but the meat doesn't have much sweetness. It's a bit disappointing. Let's try it with mustard. Wait, what's this! It's mustard. Was that a mistake? Is this normal? I like the mustard. It has a tangy flavor that's delicious. I'm impressed. My sensual experience just went up a notch. I'm not sure if the sauce is medium-thick or not, it has a vague taste. It's neither sweet nor spicy. Maybe that's why the cabbage doesn't taste great, it feels a bit lackluster. Maybe it was just that day. But it's always there, so I'm grateful.

Sugamo Station is convenient. I went to Ootoya for the first time. The interior is spacious and relaxing. It was my first time, so I was indecisive, but I decided to try the Chicken Miso Katsu Nitsuke Set. I placed my order, went to the restroom, and soon after, the piping hot dish was brought to me. The Hachimitsu miso was dark in color but not too salty, with a gentle flavor. It was delicious and juicy. The table seats are spacious, and there are also seats for solo diners, making it easy for individuals or families to enjoy a quick meal. I want to try other menu items, so I will definitely visit again.

For dinner, I went to "Ootoya" restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is simple and quiet, with a white color scheme. The menu offers a variety of options, including seasonal specials. I noticed that everyone around me was ordering the tonkatsu set, so I decided to order the same. The tonkatsu was crispy and juicy, and the rice was so delicious that I ended up getting a second serving. The prices are a bit high, but the food is definitely worth it.

I visited an Asian restaurant that is offering a limited-time (until 7/19) campaign menu to help beat the summer heat with summer-like dishes. I arrived at 12:30 on a Sunday and the restaurant was very crowded. After a 10-minute wait, I was seated at a table. The menu I ordered this time was as follows:
- Sweet Chili Asian Fried Chicken Set Meal for 1,090 yen (tax included): The fried chicken was crispy and coated with a sweet and slightly spicy chili sauce that was just right in flavor. It was served with plenty of my favorite cilantro. Other vegetables were also included, making it a well-balanced meal for those concerned about their health. You can also get a mountain of cilantro as a service, and for an additional 300 yen, you can increase the amount of cilantro. You can also change the miso soup that comes with the set meal to a vegetable barley miso soup for an additional 200 yen. I love soup, so I opted for the barley miso soup.
My companion chose the following dish:
- Grilled Atka Mackerel Set Meal for 1,050 yen (tax included): The fatty Atka mackerel was thick and the flesh was tender and easy to eat. My companion had decided to eat grilled fish before even arriving at the restaurant. While saying "Grated daikon goes in miso soup, right?" my companion proceeded to put the plentiful grated daikon that came with the mackerel into the miso soup and eat it in a strange way.
Both set meals come with a choice of white rice or five-grain rice. Ootoya always makes me feel like I'm getting healthier with each visit. The Sweet Chili Asian Fried Chicken Set Meal was delicious. I hope it becomes a regular menu item. It's always exciting to try limited-time menus, but it's disappointing when they're no longer available after the period ends. I'll definitely be back. Thank you for the meal.

Grilled mackerel set meal on charcoal fire is served in a restaurant where jazz music plays, creating a calming atmosphere with warm lighting.

I ordered the charcoal-grilled chicken set meal for 790 yen with extra multigrain rice. The shredded cabbage was very finely cut and delicious. The seating was spacious and comfortable, and the service was good. If there was a bit more cabbage, it would have been even better.

I went there twice. The chicken and sweet vinegar set meal, and the minced meat and warm soba set meal were served. The service of providing hot tea and water is wonderful. I have never seen another restaurant like this. It's nice that you can take your time to order with a tablet. The speed at which the food is served is just right. The service of being able to call a waiter with a call button for customers who can't use the tablet is also great. The atmosphere of the restaurant, including the seating and tables, is very good and relaxing. There are not many customers who stay for a long time, so the turnover is fast and you don't have to wait too long. The set meals are not bad, but I can't say they are very delicious. However, I understand that they are well-balanced meals for health. The minced meat was delicious, but the broth of the warm soba had a strong bonito flavor that didn't suit me. They might have enhanced the dashi flavor to reduce the salt content. The best thing about coming to this restaurant is the calm environment where you can eat.

I was a bit disappointed. The meat was bitter and tough. I ordered the ginger pork set meal, but the meat tasted burnt and was tough, clearly different from what I usually eat... I ate while thinking that it must vary depending on the store or the person preparing it.

Slow. Surprising. Taste is bland. Needs seasoning to improve. Delicious and nutritionally great. Ranking = Top.

I think Ootoya's set meals are great because they have a consistent quality and are cost-effective.

I often come here for lunch. I like it because you can eat a reasonably priced set meal with plenty of vegetables.

After finishing up some errands in Sugamo, I went to Ootoya located in front of the station! It's on the second floor of a building with a bookstore on the first floor. The exterior looks like a mixed-use building, but the interior is clean. I went around 7 pm on a weekday and it was packed, with about three groups waiting, so I wrote my name and waited. After about 10 minutes, I was seated! It had been a while since I last visited Ootoya, and the clientele is quite diverse as always. Looking at the menu, there were many delicious options to choose from, but I decided to order the Chicken Katsuan Nitsuke set for around 800 yen! I opted for multigrain rice (free) and a smaller portion (discount). The chicken katsu was quite soaked in sauce and covered with a lot of grated daikon, making it hard to tell if it was the katsu or the daikon. The taste was decently good, but I felt like I should have tried a different menu item. I like Ootoya, so next time I'll try something else!
