I went there for the second time. I had tofu steak, seared ayu fish, salted koji grilled chicken, and for dessert, Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with a fried egg on top. I also had a draft beer, cold sake from Kagotsuru, local wine from Miyoshi, and a lemon sour. Sitting at the counter, I could watch the chefs cook the food right in front of me, which was fun. The food and drinks were delicious. Looking forward to my next visit.

I found a delicious Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant that is easy for solo diners to enter! The atmosphere is welcoming and the prices are very reasonable. It's the perfect place to go when you feel like casually enjoying okonomiyaki by yourself! Thank you for the meal!

I made a reservation and sat at the teppanyaki counter. It was nice to watch the chefs cook the food on the teppan while enjoying beer and sake at the counter. The food was delicious. I ended with okonomiyaki and left feeling full. I will definitely visit again.

A must-eat okonomiyaki that you'll want to have regularly. This time, I decided to head to Shinjuku. The store I visited about 10 years ago had moved and reopened about a year ago, so I decided to stop by right after they opened. It had been a year since I last had Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at Kurahashi in Baba. When you think of Hiroshima, you think of Hiroshima vegetables. They served a combination of kimchi and pickles, salted cabbage, and a mysterious squid tempura that was sweet and savory, almost like a snack. The texture was addictive. The tonpeiyaki had a strong presence of pork inside rather than eggs. The simple Hiroshima-style meatball soba was made with fresh noodles directly delivered from Hiroshima's Isono noodles. You can also change it to udon. The negiyaki was served with refreshing ponzu sauce instead of sauce. As a palate cleanser, they served a crispy salad made with Onomichi dried small fish. I got tired of highballs, so I switched to Hiroshima sake halfway through. They offered Kamo Tsuru and Seikyo sake, as well as the rare Hiroshima shochu called Daruma, which I tried the sweet potato version. It had a light taste with minimal aftertaste. They also had red and white wines from the Sanyo Winery, which was served at the G7 Summit. The red wine was made from Muscat berries, and the white wine was made from Delaware grapes. They also had a variety of local fruit liqueurs. Lastly, I tried the Hiroshima-style deluxe okonomiyaki, which was filled with plenty of seafood. The restaurant was almost full, so it's recommended to make a reservation in advance. There is a smoking room available.

I didn't make a reservation, but I was able to enter for a limited 2 hours. It was my first time trying Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki and it was delicious. The staff cooked it for us and brought it to each table. It was more filling than I expected and I was satisfied!

This was my first visit since they relocated. The new location is about a 3-minute walk from the old one, next to Tenkaippin near the west exit on the second floor. I usually come for lunch, but this time it was for dinner. It was my first time having dinner here. The noodles are boiled and then stir-fried, using noodles made by Isomoto Seimen. The taste was as delicious as always. However, it was a bit disappointing that the preparation and other tasks seemed a bit sloppy, perhaps because it was close to closing time. The noise of dishes being washed and things being tidied up was quite loud and distracting. It would be nice if they could be a bit more considerate, especially since they have a teppanyaki counter. The service was polite, so I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I wanted to eat some standard okonomiyaki so I went upstairs. In the end, it was really good. I could choose the type of udon and toppings I wanted, and I didn't feel awkward eating alone at the counter. The focus was on the food rather than the drinks. If you feel like eating okonomiyaki near Shinjuku West Exit, this should be on your list of options.

For lunch, they offer Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with one topping of your choice and a soft drink for 1100 yen on weekdays. Although the price has gone up, the taste remains consistently delicious. I always end up choosing green onions as my topping, but there are other options like squid tempura and cheese which make it enjoyable. It's great that you can eat plenty of vegetables with it. It's also nice that you can request it without soba noodles or with double the noodles. I definitely want to go back regularly.

It has been 8 months since my last visit. I went for lunch and had the lunch set, which includes meatball udon with one topping and a soft drink for 1100 yen. The price has not changed since my last visit. I chose the meatball udon with squid tempura and a oolong tea. The way they cook the okonomiyaki has not changed. The noodles from Isomura Seimen with extra bean sprouts are a special feature. I noticed two differences from last time. The first is that I no longer feel the powdery texture of the fish powder, even though they still use a fair amount of it. The second point is that, although it may have been just this time, the cabbage was not tasty. It felt dry and lacked the sweetness of cabbage. A bit disappointing.

Today, I suddenly felt like eating okonomiyaki and decided to visit "Ichika" for the first time in a year. I searched for the location again since it had been a while, and found out that the store had moved. It is now located in the Shinjuku Nishiguchi area, which has more foot traffic than before. The staircase to the 2nd floor of the building is visible from the outside, making it easy to enter. Today, I had the lunch special that has been offered since the old store days. I ordered the following: Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (with soba noodles, double vegetables, and ginger ale) for ¥1,100. I opted for double vegetables as a topping to make it slightly healthier. The fact that it comes with soba noodles and the large cup for the drink are good points. There are 5 seats at the counter and table seating as well, which seems to have expanded from before. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the meal.

Many people may struggle with the wide variety of 100 yen toppings for the lunch service. This time, I chose the squid tempura. It comes with a drink, but unfortunately, there was no mayonnaise or sauce provided at my table. This may be a COVID-19 precaution. Thank you for the meal.

I discovered a great restaurant by chance again. The crispy salad with Tono chirimen, quickly stir-fried on an iron plate, paired with a soy sauce-based dressing, was a fantastic combination. And the rich Hiroshima oysters sautéed in butter were delicious, making me want to keep ordering highballs. To finish, I had the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki deluxe. The Orix team is on a winning streak, tying the series at 2-2. The Japan Series won't be exciting without this kind of match. The deluxe okonomiyaki was so voluminous that I ended up with a full stomach. But being able to enjoy the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with extra Otafuku sauce really highlighted the excellence of Hiroshima cuisine and flour-based dishes. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Visited a restaurant in Shinjuku for the 20% cashback campaign with PayPay. The location seemed different from what I remembered a few years ago, as the map displayed a new address. It appears they have relocated. I ordered beer as a side to my okonomiyaki. Sitting at the counter in front of the teppan, I could enjoy the cooking process while having a drink. The food was cooked efficiently and served with minimal waiting time. It was neither outstanding nor disappointing, just a standard Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. With Hiroshima restaurants expanding to Tokyo these days, I might choose a new one in Shinjuku if it opens there.

The menu said "Hiroshima-style", but apparently people from Hiroshima get upset when you use that term. Each person has their own unique preferences when it comes to food, which may not always be understood by others. The origin of okonomiyaki is said to be a Chinese snack called senbin, which is made by mixing wheat flour with water and frying it thinly. This dates back to the Xia Dynasty, the oldest dynasty in China. Over the course of 4000 years, okonomiyaki has evolved to include ingredients like soba noodles and cheese. It's truly amazing how humans have a curiosity when it comes to food.

The second floor of the building is spacious and nice. The unchanged lunch set includes a hearty Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki mix with one topping and a drink for 1100 yen. There is quite a lot of food, so I think the satisfaction level is high. This is the perfect place for a busy lunch.

Sometimes I feel like having teppanyaki-style dishes, so I decided to try it for dinner. Although I often walk along this street, I didn't notice this place before. I went upstairs and found a counter near the entrance, and table seating area in the back. The tables didn't have teppanyaki grills, so we didn't cook our own food. The interior had a modern and stylish design with exposed concrete. We ordered beer for 550 yen, the Deluxe plate for 1650 yen, and mochi cheese grill for 630 yen. The Deluxe plate was a bit too heavy for my liking, I think something simpler would have been better. The portion was generous, so one plate could fill you up easily.

When I had a sudden craving for sauce, I chose this shop. It's a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant, so I visited without hesitation. The shop seems to have recently moved to a new commercial building. I arrived around 11:30 am. There was already one customer eating. I was seated at the counter and placed my order. For lunch, there is one option with various toppings for customization. I chose the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (with noodles inside) with double noodles and beef tendon. I also ordered a ginger ale. The total came to 1,320 yen. Once I placed my order, the cooking began right in front of me. It took less than 10 minutes for the food to be ready, but watching the cooking process made the time fly by. The cooked Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki was served right in front of me at the counter. This way, I could enjoy it while it was still piping hot. As for the taste, it was delicious as expected. The fish powder sprinkled on top when making the base added a nice touch. The vegetables, cabbage, and bean sprouts were steamed well and had a sweet flavor. Since I ordered double noodles, there was quite a substantial amount. The noodles were crispy yet chewy, which was great. The name "Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki" made it clear that it contained noodles, which was helpful. In Tokyo, where you can try cuisines from all over Japan, it can be challenging to find authentic dishes. I was very satisfied with my visit to this restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a new restaurant. It was actually their opening day today. I was surprised! I went during lunchtime and had their lunch set. It includes a meatball soba okonomiyaki with one topping of your choice, and a soft drink, all for 1100 yen. I chose my usual topping, squid tempura, and enjoyed it at the counter seat. The okonomiyaki had a good balance of cabbage, plenty of bean sprouts (which is rare in Tokyo), and soba noodles from Isono Seimen. Overall, it was a tasty okonomiyaki, but the gritty texture of the fish powder was still a bit off-putting. The table seats without a teppan use large iron plates. Also, there is a step at the entrance that almost made me trip. Not just me, but others who came in later also almost tripped. Be careful!
