Lunch today at the udon restaurant "Gion Manya" in Gion♪
I chose "Tsunda" (with chicken) udon.
The udon had plenty of Kujo green onions.
The udon was soft and smooth, with a gentle broth and plenty of Kujo green onions.
It was delicious and comforting.
Thank you for the meal♪

Negi Udon ¥1,500
For my last meal in Kyoto trip, I chose this restaurant. The Udon with plenty of Kujo green onions had a delicious broth that soothed my stomach after eating non-stop for 3 days. The aroma of the green onions and broth was so comforting, it wafted all the way outside. My friend had the Ebinna Udon with fried tofu (¥1,650) which had a variety of toppings to choose from. I was prepared to wait in line as I saw people lining up even before opening, but we were able to get in without waiting. The restaurant has very few seats, so it might be a long wait when it's crowded.

I headed towards the Kawaramachi and Gion area, but it was crowded with people and I couldn't find a place for lunch. I wandered around but couldn't find any available seats without a reservation. Eventually, I arrived at a highly rated restaurant on Tabelog. When I got there, there were already three groups waiting in line because the restaurant had limited seating. I think the reason for the wait was that the restaurant was small. The recommended dish was udon with plenty of fresh Kujo green onions on top, along with sweetened herring. Unfortunately, they were out of kitsune udon today. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was cozy and the female owner managed everything by herself. If you're looking for a warm and comforting meal, I recommend this place. The oyakodon was delicious and had a creamy texture. In terms of cost performance, it's a bit... hmm, so-so.

I finally visited the long-awaited Manya Udon, prepared for the long line. I arrived around 2pm on a weekday, but there was already a line with about 5 groups ahead of me. After waiting for about an hour, I was finally able to enter. The restaurant only has 14 seats, and it is run by two women, so waiting is inevitable. Since it was still a bit chilly that day, I ordered the famous Negi Udon with ankake sauce. It arrived in about 15 minutes. The dashi broth typical of Kyoto, with accents of ginger and green onions, was perfectly balanced! The amount of ankake sauce was just right and warmed me up. It was worth the wait! I enjoyed the delicious udon and left fully satisfied. I heard that they are listed in the Michelin Guide, and there were many foreign customers. There is no English menu, and they only accept cash, so be careful! ☑️Negi Ankake Udon 1,600 yen

I've always wanted to visit this place, and finally got the chance to go. It was a cold day with strong winds, but I waited eagerly for the store to open. The udon was delicious! The broth was rich and comforting, warming me up from the inside out. And the generous amount of Kujo green onions was a delightful surprise. They seemed to never end, making me wonder if there were more onions than udon in the bowl. The umeboshi (pickled plum) was a nice touch and paired perfectly with the dish. I felt so happy and content, with warmth spreading through my body.

Order: Negi Udon (1500 yen). This restaurant has been selected for the Michelin Bib Gourmand. Their specialty is the Negi Udon. Despite the use of green onions, there is no sharp aftertaste, so even those who dislike green onions can enjoy it.

Located in Gion, I visited Man'ya for some warm udon amidst the Christmas cold wave. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and although the restaurant was full, there was no line so I only had to wait outside for about 10 minutes before being seated. I ordered the Tsunoda with chicken for 2000 yen. My companion mentioned that the prices have gone up, but it's understandable given the location in Gion. The taste was incredibly delicious. A gentle flavor that warms you up. The udon and Kujyo negi were tasty, and the chicken was juicy. Most of all, the broth was delicious, I drank it all up. The ginger did a great job. Why not try visiting during the winter? Highly recommended.

After watching Terumon Jimon's YouTube video, I immediately wanted to eat and visited Kyoto! I didn't want to wait in line, so I arrived first thing in the morning. If I had been a little late, I would have had to wait over 30 minutes, so I recommend going a bit early for those who don't want to wait. The udon was just as it looked - filled with plenty of Kujo green onions. Even the person I went with, who doesn't like green onions, enjoyed it because of how delicious it looked. The broth had a gentle and refreshing taste that perfectly matched the crispy green onions and soft udon. This simple taste... I want to eat it again!笑

The restaurant is a bit small, so be careful when visiting with a large group. There are three 4-person tables and one 2-person table. If you come alone, you will most likely have to share a table with someone else. You can choose between soba and udon, but the recommended choice is definitely udon. The Negi Udon has a lot of green onions and can be considered a green onion udon.

I visited a small, quiet udon restaurant tucked away in a side street that is famous for being listed in the Michelin Guide called "Gion Manya." I tried the green onion udon and the herring soba. When I arrived at the opening time, there were already a few people lining up, so I barely made it in for the first round. The restaurant had about 5 tables, and I felt lucky to get a seat. Despite the heat, the warm udon and soba were delicious, surpassing the sweat I worked up. The aroma and flavor of the broth were truly Kyoto-style. The crisp Kyoto green onions and the deep flavor of the herring were both delicious. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again!

Udon and soba restaurants in Kyoto use a lot of kombu dashi, making their broth delicious. The pre-made noodles at udon restaurants are decent, but the broth is generally tasty, so dishes like tamago-don and katsudon made with that broth are delicious. If you go around 5:30 pm, expect a line, but it's worth the wait. I enjoyed a unique Kyoto-style oyakodon thanks to the waiting time. Oyakodon in Kyoto pairs well with sansho pepper. The negi soba with plenty of Kujo negi is also delicious. The broth is delicious!

I went to GW. I arrived around 1 pm after visiting temples and shrines in the morning. Due to the limited restrictions for outings this year in the midst of the corona situation, there were a lot of people, and when I arrived at the restaurant with an opening time of 12 pm, there was a long line. I usually arrive 15-20 minutes before opening time, but I was late this time (laughs). In the end, I waited for about an hour and a half before getting in! I wanted to eat udon and go home no matter how long I waited... In the past two times, I had regular green onion udon, but this time I tried the chicken udon. The Kujo green onions have a soft spiciness and aroma that are easy to eat, and there is a good amount of chicken that gives a satisfying texture. The broth has a strong bonito flavor that spreads throughout the mouth, and even though it's light, you can feel the umami taste. It's good to eat in the cold season, but it's also recommended for this season when it's getting warmer!! The restaurant is small and run by two elderly people, but I was surprised to see that they have taken thorough infection prevention measures this time I visited! Personally, I am a fan of udon, but I am also a fan of the two people who run the restaurant, so I always hope that they will continue to be healthy and well.

In early April, despite the summer-like heat, I really wanted to eat the Kujou Negi Ankake Udon, so I headed to Manya-san's shop. It was a hot day, so there are days when there is a line in the small shop, but on this day, I was able to enter smoothly! I ordered the hot ankake udon without hesitation. It was served in less than 5 minutes. The steam rising and the frothy ankake made my stomach feel relieved just by looking at it. I took a sip and even though I was sweating, my body felt like it needed it. I ate it with gusto, not caring about the sweat dripping. I finished the soup while it was still hot!! I hope this shop will be open forever.

The noodles were refreshing yet rich in flavor from the broth, making it very comforting. The classic dish in the photo is the Negi Udon, which was delicious with plenty of green onions. Also, the Tamago Don was heartwarmingly delicious, especially when topped with black seven spice. It filled both my stomach and heart. I would love to come back again.

【Manya】I happened to come across this restaurant! Since it had high ratings on Tabelog, I decided to give it a try. It was so popular that there was a long line outside the restaurant, but I waited and finally got in!
[Ordered Menu]
- Negi (Green Onion) for 1400 yen
- Negi Ankake (Green Onion in a thick starchy sauce) for 1500 yen
The prices were a bit on the high side for udon, but it was incredibly delicious. I was happy to see that it was filled with green onions since I love them. It also had ginger which helped warm me up in the freezing cold.
The seasoning was gentle and elegant, typical of Kyoto udon. The noodles were soft and fluffy.
For those who love green onions, I highly recommend it!

While walking around Gion, I stumbled upon a charming shop with a beautiful curtain. It seemed to be a famous udon restaurant in Gion, as the place was crowded with people. The udon, made with plenty of Kujo green onions, was delicious and easy to eat. A must-try dish when visiting Kyoto!

I found this place in a guidebook and decided to visit because it caught my interest. The smell of dashi and Kujo negi outside made me excited. I ordered the negi udon (with ankake) and it was delicious and piping hot until the last bite. The negi was crunchy, which made my jaw a bit tired but in a good way. I could taste a slight bitterness in the dashi, but the negi covered it up nicely so I ended up finishing the broth as well. Thank you for the meal!

"Gion Man-ya" is a famous restaurant that has won a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Kyoto guide. It is located a 3-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station, exit 6, and I arrived around 1 pm. The restaurant was full, but they said they could seat us soon. We were asked to wait outside for a bit, and after about 5 minutes, we were called in. The interior was simple and calm, with 3 tables for 4 people each and 1 table for 2 people. They had good COVID-19 precautions in place, with no shared seating and everyone sitting facing the same direction. Their specialty is the "Negi Udon" with plenty of Kujo green onions. I ordered the Negi Udon, and it was delicious! The soup had a rich bonito flavor typical of Kyoto dashi. The ginger gradually blended into the soup, enhancing the taste. The udon itself was the soft Kyoto style. The Kujo green onions were sweet and crunchy, adding a nice texture. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

A popular restaurant in Gion. It is located down a narrow alley from Hanami Lane. There is always a line before opening on weekends. Established in 1977, this is a long-standing establishment. This time's order: Negi Udon. The bowl is filled with green onions, you can't see the udon underneath. The Kyoto green onions are crispy with a hint of sweetness. The broth is based on light soy sauce, with flavors of kombu and bonito. Thank you for the meal.

Lunch during a trip to Kyoto. We arrived a bit late thinking it would be less crowded, but it was full so we waited outside for a bit. Due to the current situation, they have reduced the number of seats and the tables are set up for two people side by side. The famous negi udon was really loaded with green onions. It felt like there was almost as much green onion as udon. Made with Kujo green onions, the texture was crunchy and refreshing with a clean aftertaste. The broth was also well seasoned and not at all bland. It was delicious.
