A deep alley behind the station. At a Taiwanese dessert shop. Mango Daifuku 900 yen. It's more like white rice flour than daifuku. There's a small amount of mochi-like texture. Inside a large amount of whipped cream, there's mango jelly. The sweetness and texture make it difficult to eat. Hmm, this one seems to be a matter of personal preference. The price is also...

-Egg tart ¥350 including tax -Chocolate egg tart ¥450 including tax Located about a 3-minute walk from Takadanobaba Station on the JR Yamanote Line, this Chinese confectionery shop? sells sweets and seemingly some strong-tasting side dishes as well. I had known about the shop for a while, but it was always unclear whether it was open or not. This time, I happened to see a staff member inside, so I decided to go in. The shop has a few tables for 2 people, but there was no indication of eating in. The displayed products included sweets, but also some unfamiliar side dish ingredients, which was quite intriguing. The prices were not displayed anywhere. I decided to buy a cake-like item, and noticed a shelf with egg tart-like items near the register, so I chose from there. It seemed like there were several flavors. I then realized that the staff couldn't speak Japanese. They seemed fluent in English, but I am not, so we communicated through gestures. In the end, I decided to buy one plain and one chocolate tart. When it came to the price, there was some confusion as the staff said "three hundred." I thought it was 150 yen each, which seemed reasonable, so I paid, but it turned out to be 800 yen in total, with the chocolate one being more expensive. Oh well, I thought, and bought them to have as a late-night snack. Upon researching later, I found out that they accept delivery and takeout orders from a Chinese smartphone app, targeting Chinese customers rather than Japanese. They seem to rely more on delivery as their main source of income, despite having a storefront. It seems like more and more of these types of shops are popping up, or is it just me? As for the taste of the egg tarts, they were made with a light pastry-like tart crust and a traditional custard cream made with plenty of eggs. The chocolate one also had crunchy chocolate pearls added to it. Both were palm-sized, so I finished them in a few bites. They were delicious, but being so small, I felt a bit unsatisfied. Thank you for having me.
