A new fried chicken shop in Nogata. They offer Nagoya-style fried chicken, Korean chicken, and Daisy Pie, and now they have Zanki. I thought it was Hokkaido-style at first, but it turns out Zanki is a local specialty from Ehime. Even Zangi is unfamiliar to me, so Zanki is a completely new term for me (laughs). I need to try it out. The location is next to the okonomiyaki restaurant "Katsumi", on the street where Akimoto-ya is located. The sign for this shop caught my eye from the Nogata station platform, so I was curious about it. I ordered the soy sauce and salt flavors of chicken thigh and chicken breast for takeout. There is an additional charge for the containers. Payment for takeout is cash only! I intentionally mentioned takeout because they also offer dine-in (unfortunately, only takeout is available on weekdays during the day). Fried chicken and beer would go well together, so it's nice that you can have a drink there (I'm envious!). There were two staff members working. I waited inside the shop and received freshly fried chicken. I tried it as soon as I got home. The large-sized fried chicken is the type I like, similar to Tatsuta-age. The containers are sturdy, and the flavors are written on the lids. The crispy coating is delicious. So, this is Zanki! The crispy coating is different from Korean-style chicken, but I can't quite explain the difference in texture (Korean-style is crunchy, while Zanki is more crispy?). We all agreed (there were three of us) that we prefer the salt flavor, which has a sharp taste. Both were delicious, but the soy sauce flavor was a bit too sweet for my taste. Kyushu soy sauce tends to be on the sweeter side, so I wonder if Shikoku is the same? It's all a matter of personal preference. I would love to dine in if the timing is right, but luckily the shop is close enough to the station that the soup (not soup, but Zanki) won't get cold. I would like to go back and buy more. It's tucked away, but it's close to the station, so it's convenient for those using the train!

I received this as a souvenir. There is no photo. The soy sauce flavor is quite ordinary. I think it would be better with a bit more garlic. The salt flavor is not bad, with a strong garlic taste, but it was a bit too salty. I think it would be good to try buying and eating it yourself at least once.
