At the year-end party for a senior colleague who retired this year, we only had appetizers for about 2 hours and drank sweet potato shochu and barley shochu with soda. In front of the Togoshi-Ginza Station, there is a Matsuya restaurant. I noticed that Matsuya has now become a self-serve style for getting meals. I ordered the double portion of pork steak bowl with extra rice. The taste was amazing for such a low price. Thank you for the meal.

Limited time menu, sirloin cut steak with a wasabi-infused rémoulade sauce on the side, ordered the irresistible macaroni with the sweetness of milk and the richness of butter. Since it's free to upsize, I went for the large portion. When asked if it was tender, I wouldn't say it was tough, but definitely not tender either. It's amazing to be able to eat beef sirloin at this price, but the large portion didn't have enough meat. The sauce was a bit salty, but delicious, so I poured it over the rice. The macaroni had a unique flavor that reminded me of macaroni gratin. The sauce had a soy sauce and onion with Western wasabi flavor, and it was quite good. It's similar to the sauce for roast beef.

On February 16, 2019, I had the Negi Shio Buta Karubi Don for 450 yen, with an additional 100 yen for fresh vegetables. The pork was plentiful on top, but each piece was small, thin, and lacked juiciness and flavor. The rice was clumped together with too much salt sauce, making it difficult to pick up with chopsticks. Today's work took me to Tokugawa Ginza, and since it was around lunchtime, I decided to look for a place that serves lunch. While there were many Chinese and ramen restaurants around, I wasn't feeling like having Chinese food, so I ended up going to Matsuya. I usually go for their set meal menu, but I hadn't had their gyudon in a while, so today I ordered the Premium Gyudon for 380 yen. I sprinkled plenty of their black seven spice for an extra kick. It had been a while since I had Matsuya's gyudon, and while it had a bit more fatty bits than I remembered, the spiciness from the black seven spice made it delicious until the last bite. Having miso soup on the side always makes the meal more comforting.

I have been going to Matsuya for over 20 years. I usually order the curry, gyudon, or kalbi set. The taste is always consistent, but I notice that the way the meat is cooked and the portion size can vary depending on who is cooking. Overcooking the meat is the most frustrating issue for me. However, I always think the classic sauce is delicious.

Visited with my wife just after 9 am. A simple breakfast of egg over rice with miso soup and grated yam for only 290 yen. Sometimes, a simple breakfast like this is nice, right?

In the Tokai and Kansai regions, there are still few places where you can taste "Premium Gyudon" as it is mostly limited to certain stores. However, in Tokyo and the Kanto region, you can enjoy "Premium Gyudon" at many restaurants. Although it is priced higher than regular Gyudon, if you use shareholder benefits, there is no better choice than the "Premium" option. When I visit Kanto, I always choose the "Gyudon" option. Of course, I order the extra-large size. While there may not be anything dramatically different in terms of taste, I feel satisfied and happy.

I entered the restaurant at 11:55 am. There was one customer before me. The food was served in about 5 minutes. It costs 500 yen, which is not bad because it comes with miso soup. As I was eating, more customers started coming in.

I visited Matsuya in Gotanda Ginza for lunch. I arrived around 12:40, and the restaurant was empty. I couldn't decide between a rice bowl or a set meal, but this time I chose the new menu item: Eggplant and Green Onion flavored soy sauce hamburger with a side of potato salad and extra rice. The rice portion was complimentary for a limited time. I was served within 3-4 minutes while sipping on water. The hamburger was a medium size, cooked in a soy sauce flavor with eggplant, green onion, and garlic. It was easier to eat than I expected, with a slightly strong taste. The meal also included a side of fresh vegetables, potato salad, extra rice, and miso soup. The potato salad from Matsuya was average, mostly made of potatoes. I think the vegetable salad alone would have been enough. The new menu item had its hits and misses, but this time the hamburger was decent. Thank you for the meal.

I went shopping at the Gotanda Ginza shopping street and started to feel hungry. As I passed by Matsuya, I was drawn to a sign that said "Authentic Thai Style Chicken and Eggplant Green Curry, with extra rice service" and decided to enter Matsuya Gotanda Ginza branch. I bought a meal ticket and sat at the counter seat. The green curry with plenty of vegetables and chicken, topped with garlic rice, and the obligatory miso soup were served. It had been a while since I had green curry, and it was delicious. I thought it might be spicier since it was Thai style, but it wasn't as spicy as I expected. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was more calm compared to Matsuya near Gotanda Station. I think Matsuya's curry is better than other gyudon chain restaurants. I'm looking forward to how long they will continue to sell this Thai-style "Chicken and Eggplant Green Curry." Thank you for the meal.

Just injured my back and had no plans for Saturday. Feeling down staying at home, so I decided to go to the Togoshi Ginza shopping street for lunch. After wandering around, I settled on "Matsuya Togoshi Ginza Store." My husband ordered the regular Gyudon for 320 yen because he wanted something light. I, on the other hand, have never eaten Gyudon outside even though I make it at home, so I ordered the Buta Shogayaki Teishoku for 580 yen. The restaurant had mostly solo customers, making it easy to walk in. The Gyudon arrived first, but the heating of the ingredients seemed a bit lacking. Nonetheless, the white rice was decently tasty, and for 320 yen, it was satisfying. Now, my wife tried Buta Shogayaki outside for the first time. She nodded in approval while savoring it. The meat was tender with a moderate amount of fat, and the slightly sweet flavor was quite satisfying. It's delicious, isn't it? I remember the Shogayaki at "Okada" in Shinmachi, Fuchu, Tokyo, where I used to go during my student days. I wonder if it's still around. While Matsuya was tasty, I also want my wife to try the Shogayaki at Okada.
