A noodle shop that caught my attention because all the reviews were about ramen even though it's a udon shop. It's located about a 3-minute walk from Karasuma intersection. There are many loud signs on the street pointing to the shop, so it's easy to find. When you enter the shop, the very energetic staff greets you. It's a very welcoming place. I wanted to check the menu, but the energetic staff recommended sushi...they have that too! I was curious about the Yuzu Ramen (880 yen) as I love yuzu. The noodles were medium-thin straight noodles. The menu says "Yuzu-flavored, rich and light," but it's actually "Yuzu-rich, light." I was surprised by this. The main character in the ramen soup here is definitely "yuzu." The soup is not just yuzu-flavored, it's like "if yuzu became ramen soup," a truly unique ramen in Kyoto that goes against the norm. I love it. As you can see in the photo, there is floating lard, but the lard works as a support to enhance the richness of the citrus and animal double soup miracle. If yuzu ramen is like this, I wonder what lemon ramen would be like? I want to try all the varieties including udon at this shop. It feels like a shop where the essence of a long-established shop is injected with the passion of a young successor, a place that takes everything seriously...just my imagination. I'll try the sushi next time. It's a fascinating shop. Thank you for the meal!

It was a very hot day, but as soon as I entered the shop, I felt relieved and thought "It's so cool and comfortable!" It's a small shop, but it seems to be popular as it was full. Even though it was almost closing time, they welcomed me warmly. I had a set meal with fried eggplant and fried mochi on top of chicken and rice. The noodles had a nice texture and the crispy chicken was delicious. I would like to try their ramen next time!

Founded 40 years ago, Eitaro in Karasuma-Kawaramachi offers not only chewy Sanuki udon but also authentic ramen. Located near Kyoto Daimaru, it is a convenient spot just a 2-minute walk from Shijo Station on the subway or Karasuma Station on the Hankyu line. The exterior is easy to spot with menus and signs displayed outside the building across from the Daimaru parking lot. Inside, the restaurant features long tables in a traditional Kyoto style setting. During lunch hours, there may be lines, so it's best to arrive right at opening or just before the last order. For dinner, reservations are recommended as the place tends to be fully booked. The Sanuki udon, known for its chewy texture from training in Kagawa, includes popular items like curry udon and cold udon with fresh soy sauce. However, many customers flock to the ramen menu, with the top favorite being the Yuzu Ramen. This Kyoto-style ramen with a soy sauce base and back fat is a hit, especially with plenty of yuzu juice added. Side dishes like the water dumplings are also a must-try. The Yuzu Chashu Ramen, with a punchy yet refreshing broth and custom-made thin straight noodles, is a crowd-pleaser. The chashu made from pork shoulder is a personal favorite, so I always order the chashu ramen. The water dumplings, with a strong bonito flavor in the udon broth and a satisfying mix of vegetables and meat, are a guaranteed hit. Currently, you can also order the Yuzu Ramen online through the shopping app BASE for gourmet delivery. You can also make purchases through the restaurant's website or Instagram @yuzu.eitarou. Don't miss out on ordering the Yuzu Ramen and water dumplings.

I went to a ramen shop in Kyoto and ordered the chicken curry ramen and mini chicken rice bowl set from the menu. It turned out to be a great choice. The shop originally served Sanuki udon, which is hand-made. The curry had just the right thickness and spiciness, and it paired well with the udon. Thank you for the meal.

I chose this place for lunch on my business trip back. It is located near Shijo Station, on a small street leading from Nishiki Market and Daimaru to Karasuma Street. The menu offers a wide variety of options, including ramen, udon, curry, and rice bowl sets, making it hard to decide. I chose the cold yuzu ramen with a small curry bowl for around 1300 yen. The soup was a refreshing version of soy sauce tonkotsu with thin straight noodles and a slightly sour and unique taste. The curry bowl had a thick and slightly spicy sauce with a hint of tonkotsu base, making it very flavorful. I arrived right at the 11:30 am opening time and was seated immediately, but the place quickly filled up, with a 5-person wait by the time I finished my meal. Despite its small size, the restaurant's delicious food and creative menu choices make it popular. If this place was closer to where I live, it would definitely be my go-to lunch spot. I would love to try other items on the menu as well. Overall, it's a great restaurant! Thank you for the meal!

Order: Chicken curry with mixed vegetable rice set (1000 yen). The curry was creamy and easy to eat, and the portion size was generous, so I was very satisfied. One amazing thing about this restaurant is the wide variety of menu options. I have never seen a restaurant with such a diverse range of dishes.

I visited on a regular Tuesday night. I arrived right when they opened. This restaurant offers both ramen and udon, as well as other tempting evening menu options, so I had a hard time deciding what to eat. In the end, I ordered the udon and tempura bowl set, but I couldn't help but feel intrigued by the ramen as well.

The Yuzu Ramen on the menu is refreshing with a vinegar-like taste, making it easy to eat. The Curry Stew Udon and Ojiya's Half and Half are hearty and satisfying. The menu is a bit overwhelming with so many choices, it's fun but hard to decide on one. Looking around, it seems yuzu is popular. The udon noodles are slightly soft, while the ramen has thin noodles. Thank you for the meal.

I was originally planning to eat warm udon, but it was so hot that I found cold ramen appealing and ended up ordering chilled yuzu ramen. I added extra bamboo shoots with a coupon from Tabelog. It was deliciously cold, but the soup was quite strong and I couldn't really taste the yuzu. When I squeezed the sudachi on top, it became refreshingly light. The thin noodles had a nice firm texture, and there was plenty of bamboo shoots, making it quite filling. The place was crowded so I had to share a table, but the staff were friendly.

The restaurant "Maido En" in Kyoto Torimaru #Shijo offers both ramen and udon, and I was curious to try it out. The interior of the shop is not very spacious, yet it was full even on a weekday since the opening. Located near Nishiki Market, if you walk straight from Kawaramachi, you'll find it. They didn't have tempura on rice, so I tried the tempura on udon instead. I prefer udon with a firm texture.

Located a 5-minute walk from Shijo Station, "Shinuchi Hidaro" this time, I ordered a la carte after taking my seat. The ordered items (☆ favorite menu) include: Yuzu Ramen ¥880 with Menma added using a coupon from the Tabelog app. The ramen had a punch that I had never experienced before, not from garlic but from the acidity of yuzu. It also had pork fat in it. There is also udon available, and the spacious interior of the restaurant means the service is a bit slower compared to regular ramen shops. Customers ordered a variety of menu items, with many opting for chicken rice (similar to tempura) on the side. I should have ordered that too. It's nice that reservations are possible with this style of dining. Upon entering the restaurant, warm tea is served, and they also provide water when serving the ramen, which is unusual. It was delicious!

Udon and ramen both have a great reputation at Karamu's Eitaro. This time, I tried their special dish, the Tsukimi Mountain Udon with fried chicken and vegetable tempura on top. I had never tried their udon before, but it was so delicious! The thick noodles had a great chewiness to them. This is the real deal, much better than Sanuki udon. It was so good! I had been focusing on ramen so much that I had overlooked their udon, but this was top-notch! A hidden gem of a restaurant. And you can get this with a mini tempura rice bowl for only 1000 yen! A reasonable price for such quality. I definitely need to come back here often.

I arrived at the restaurant around 1 o'clock on Saturday and there were 3 groups waiting. I didn't have to wait long before being seated. I was torn between getting Yuzu Ramen or Curry Udon, but I ended up ordering the large portion of Curry Udon with an extra Chikuwa Tempura. It was quite filling, and when I sprinkled a little Shichimi spice on it and ate it, it was just right.

I stopped by this restaurant alone during my trip. It was around 7:00 pm on a weekday and there were a few other customers already there. I was planning to eat either udon or ramen during my trip to Kyoto, but surprisingly, all 5 of the places I had bookmarked were closed for the day. After walking around and with rain starting in the evening, I was drawn to something lighter like udon. Even though Eitaro is known for their udon, there were many reviews praising their ramen. The walls of the restaurant were covered with magazine articles saying "A great ramen shop". I was really curious about the ramen, and it seemed like all the other customers were ordering ramen too. However, I was set on udon and ended up ordering the "Tamago Toji (800 yen)". It was comforting and gentle. It was exactly what I needed after a tiring day of walking around and feeling down. The udon was not chewy, but soft and smooth. The service was a bit cold. Thank you for the meal. Next time, I will come back to try the ramen.

Despite saying that, I only ordered the closing menu items for the day. Yuzu Ramen for 880 yen and a Tempura Don with Inaka Udon Set for 1050 yen. The Yuzu Ramen here is always delicious no matter the condition, it's so easy to gobble up. As the season changes, I feel like I'll be craving it even more. The Tempura Don had vegetable tempura, pumpkin, egg, and seaweed. The seaweed wasn't crispy, but the sauce and the Inaka Udon were delicious and well-received. I'll definitely visit again!

It's been a while since I had curry udon! Well, adding that much thickness to curry udon was quite surprising (laughs). I've nodded along many times to the idea of mixing curry spices with Japanese dashi to transform the aroma and texture. This time, the highlight was the way they sprinkled green onions, like in Kyoto-style sliced kitsune udon, adding richness not just in appearance but also in texture. But adding too much thickness might make it hard to remember anything else. Next time, let's try ramen or something. The Nanban was delicious as always.

A famous restaurant located in the alley behind Daimaru in Shijo-Karasuma, Kyoto, with a history of 40 years, known for its delicious Sanuki udon and ramen. The most popular dish is the special Yuzu Ramen, which is incredibly tasty. I have had it about three times and I really like it. I usually go there for a second round after having a full dinner, and the light and refreshing taste of the ramen goes down smoothly! They also offer a variety of side dishes, so many people come to the restaurant to eat and drink like in an izakaya. They also have hot pot courses available. I have previously posted about the Black Wagyu and Pork Shabu-Shabu Hot Pot course, which was delicious and had great value for money. If you think it's a good restaurant, don't forget to save it! Located just a few minutes' walk from Shijo-Karasuma, this udon restaurant behind Daimaru is popular for its ramen. However, the udon is also said to be delicious. I visited around 7 pm for a second round of drinks after an early dinner. I like that this place can be used as an udon restaurant, a ramen restaurant, or an izakaya. The water dumplings were delicious, and I thought it would be nice to drink and then have udon or ramen as a finale. I intended to have udon, but ended up having the yuzu ramen again. The light yuzu ramen is enjoyable anytime, almost like a palate cleanser. If you're having a heavy meal course at two different places, I think it's a good idea to have this yuzu ramen in between to reset.

Located about a 3-minute walk from Kyoto Karasuma Station, "Shindate Hidetaro" is a udon restaurant with a 40-year history! This time, I tried their recommended "Yuzu Ramen." Even though I was already full from my first meal, I was able to finish it easily as it had a punchy flavor with a refreshing yuzu aroma. The menu is extensive, and there were many other dishes I wanted to try! Next time, I would like to try their proud udon as well. ☺

I visited the popular udon restaurant in Kyoto, Ukyo, for the first time today. The menu was extensive and I had a hard time deciding what to order, but eventually settled on the curry stew. The dish was served with both udon noodles and rice, with chicken as the main ingredient. The flavor was rich but refreshing, perfect for a late-night meal after drinking. The restaurant was bustling even late at night, with customers coming in regularly. I enjoyed the meal and will definitely be back for another quick bite. Thank you for the delicious food!
