【Restaurant Information】 Genre: Eel Reservation: Phone Budget: ¥10,000-¥ I visited Unazen, which has been selected as a bronze restaurant on Tabelog in Fukuoka! It was so delicious! Ordered Menu: - Special (⚠️Pre-order) ¥11,200 Comes with grilled eel liver, pickles - Grilled Eel Liver (requires reservation) Market price (¥800 on this day) - Raw Egg ¥100 The grilled eel liver is delicious, a must-order for liver lovers! When you order the special, it comes with grilled eel liver, which was surprisingly delicious and left a lasting impression in my mouth. So delicious! The grilled eel liver is brought to your table right after it's cooked, and it's even more delicious than the first one. The main dish is a choice between a set meal or a rice bowl, and I chose the rice bowl. It was incredibly delicious! Fluffy and the sauce was amazing! I saw another customer order raw egg, so I tried it too. They serve it on top of rice with eel, and the combination of egg and eel sauce is great! A new discovery for me! The staff at the restaurant are very kind and their customer service goes beyond expectations. Their kindness and thoughtfulness are truly wonderful. 【Seating Information】 There are table and tatami seating available, but during lunchtime, they only seat about two groups. It's recommended to make a reservation in advance! Closed on Sundays and holidays, credit cards are accepted. I hope you all have the chance to visit this restaurant.

I had seen the restaurant near my company before, but I went there for the first time after being recommended by the chef at Unagi Kombei in Tokyo. I had the eel kaiseki course, which included eel liver skewers, rolled omelette, pickles, grilled eel, eel rice bowl, and eel liver soup. The pickles were especially delicious. I was told that it is particularly recommended in the winter season and I would like to go again.

We made a reservation for three adults, a 6-year-old, and a 3-year-old for an eel dinner. I forgot to take a picture of the eel roll, but it was the best I've ever had with plenty of broth. The eel bowl was also great, with firm rice that soaked up the sauce well, and the eel had a nice crispy charred flavor. Considering the taste and price, it's a great deal! They welcomed families with kids warmly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. We will definitely come back.

You can enjoy delicious eel in a cozy atmosphere with reservation-only service. The fresh liver is very popular, so pre-ordering is a must. The staff are friendly and we had a wonderful dinner time.

I ordered a set of two eels, one grilled and one in a bowl. The grilled eel came with a variety of condiments for different ways to enjoy it. As I ate, they brought out two more pieces of freshly grilled eel. The eel in the bowl was thick and flavorful, with a rich and tender texture. I was surprised that it was only grilled and not steamed. I recommend this dish to those who enjoy rich and flavorful eel.

Today, I visited a famous eel restaurant in Fukuoka, which has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. I made a reservation for the lunch seating and ordered the "Take" course (5700 yen) in advance. When I arrived on time, I saw a sign outside saying "Sold out by reservation." Truly the number one eel restaurant in Kyushu. As I entered, a cheerful young female host greeted me warmly. The head chef in the kitchen also welcomed me with a smile, making me feel good from the start! I had pre-ordered the "Take" course, but you can choose to have the eel on rice as a bowl or in a separate box, so I chose the bowl option. I don't like the eel sauce on rice, but here they serve it separately, which was great for someone who loves white rice like me. After about 15 minutes, a senior female staff member appeared and greeted me deeply. Their hospitality was truly wonderful. The dish was served in about 20 minutes. When I opened the lid, I saw generously sized eels. The eel was so tender and had a unique texture, a hybrid of Kanto-style softness and Kansai-style crispy skin. The sauce was warmed, and they provided two types of sansho pepper - powdered and freshly ground. The eel liver was also prepared perfectly. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

"We visited 'Unazen,' which was selected as one of the 'Top 100 Eel Restaurants in 2022' by Tabelog. The restaurant has been selected for this honor three times in 2018, 2019, and 2022. They were also awarded 'The Tabelog Award Bronze' in 2022. A sign saying 'Eel Sold Out' was displayed outside the restaurant. Reservations are a must. We arrived at the restaurant around 12:30 on a weekday and were promptly seated due to our reservation. We ordered the 'Special' eel dish. There are four options available: Plum, Bamboo, Pine, and Special, with the quality and quantity increasing as you go up the list. The Special dish comes with grilled eel on pine leaves. You can choose to have the eel served on rice as a bowl or as a separate dish. This time, we ordered the eel on rice. After a 15-minute wait, we enjoyed the grilled eel on pine leaves. As we finished the first serving, a piping hot grilled eel was served, followed by the eel on rice after a 20-minute wait. The grilled eel skin was crispy, and the flesh was juicy with a rich flavor. The piping hot grilled eel was even crispier and juicier. I personally enjoyed it with a touch of wasabi. The eel on rice was slightly milder in flavor, but the eel's umami was still present. The sauce was light and refreshing. The rice portion was small but refillable. As mentioned in other reviews, the proprietress was very cheerful, and chatting with her made us smile. The head proprietress and proprietress even saw us off outside the restaurant, making our departure pleasant. The proprietress shared some insights about eel outside the restaurant, showcasing their love and dedication to their craft. Thank you for the wonderful meal. Menu Ordered: Special - 11,200 yen (tax included) Rating Criteria: 2.9 or below - Not very delicious 3.0- Delicious 3.5- Very delicious 4.0- Want to revisit 4.5- Want to revisit and recommend to others #37 Visit Date: 2023/04/10 (Monday)"

Uunagi restaurant Uunzen, located a 6-8 minute walk from Watanabe-dori Station, is a place that is so particular about sourcing eels that they may not open if they can't get the right ones. The shop has been selected as one of the top 100 eel restaurants in 2018, 2019, and 2022, as well as receiving a bronze award from Tabelog in 2022. Despite their strict quality standards for eels, the service is very polite and the atmosphere is cozy and wonderful. We tried the Uunagi-Ju Take this time. It had the richest and most flavorful quality fat that I've ever tasted in an eel dish, with a perfect harmony with the fluffy rice and sansho pepper. It's no wonder, as they carefully select the best eels from wholesalers in Kagoshima, then further sort them in the shop, using only the top-quality eels that are rarely found, about one in a hundred. Especially during the eel season in winter, when the highest quality eels are available, it's understandable that it's quite difficult to get a reservation due to its popularity. Among the many eel restaurants in Kyushu, this place offers top-class eel dishes, so be sure to visit. Thank you for the meal!

For dinner in Fukuoka, we went to the Michelin Plate-selected eel restaurant "Unazen," which has been a long-standing eel shop in Fukuoka for over 30 years and is also the number one eel restaurant in Fukuoka on the local area's Tabelog. We made a reservation in advance and arrived at the restaurant at 6 pm. The restaurant is about an 8-minute walk from the Watanabe-dori subway station. They had a sign outside saying "Today's sales are by reservation only," so we were glad we made a reservation. We sat at a table inside and ordered a bottle of beer. The liver grill was served first, and it was fresh and tender with a nice texture. The next dish was the grilled eel, which had a great flavor and a crispy skin. It was served hot and was even better than the liver grill. The eel bowl was also delicious, with fluffy and tender eel over rice. The eel had a sweet sauce that complemented the rice well. The portion was just right for us, and the staff offered more rice if needed. The aroma and flavor of the eel were amazing. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!

I made a reservation over the phone about 2 weeks ago. The staff was very polite during the call, and the actual restaurant was also very welcoming. I ordered the "Matsu" unagi donburi for lunch, and it was delicious. The eel was not steamed, the skin was crispy, and the inside was tender. The eel pieces were layered on top of each other. I would love to visit again if I have the chance. The owner only sources eels that he approves of, so the quantity is limited, and they don't accept many reservations. On the day I visited, they only served 8 lunches.

The final touch in Fukuoka is at "Unazen." We could only make a reservation for this day, so we eagerly awaited the moment. While enjoying beer, we waited for the shirayaki. The landlady's food recommendations were entertaining, just like a geisha. The shirayaki arrived in about 35 minutes. It wasn't very thick, but it was delicious with various condiments like special yuzu pepper, wasabi, and cucumber vinegar. However, the ponzu sauce was exceptional. The second round of shirayaki was thicker and hotter, so we had to be careful. The combination of the shirayaki and ponzu sauce was outstanding. We enjoyed the crispy skin and tender meat. The shirayaki paired perfectly with the Tōichi Nero sake from Saga. After 30 minutes, the main event, the unaju, was served. We were asked if we wanted the rice on top or separately. The unaju had a slightly thicker cut and crispy skin. The grilling might have been slightly lacking, but the deliciousness of the eel was still evident. The sauce was subtle, with extra sauce provided on the side. The hospitality was excellent, with the staff engaging in interesting conversations. We were even escorted outside when leaving, and the warm hospitality left a lasting impression. Though it may be a while before returning to Kyushu, this lunch experience was filled with delicious food, great sake, and heartfelt hospitality.

On the second day for lunch, I went to have eel at this place that I had been curious about because of its good reviews on Tabelog. I made a reservation over the phone a while ago and had to inform them of what I wanted to eat, so I chose the eel course. The lady who answered the phone was very kind and friendly. The eel was in season and they mentioned that it was the perfect time to enjoy it. When I arrived, there were only 3 tables in the restaurant - 2 tatami tables and 1 regular table. It seemed difficult to get a reservation. I was the first to arrive, so I sat at the regular table. I ordered the eel course (reservation required) for 11,200 yen. I could hear the voice of the owner coming from the kitchen, but I couldn't see the eel. The meal included eel liver grilled on a skewer served 30 minutes after I arrived, a fluffy and hot thick omelette sandwiched with eel, and pickles. The pickles were made with a rare citrus fruit called "Genkou" found in the Genkou Strait "Madarajima". The eel was then served grilled white. It was on the smaller side and had a crispy exterior but lacked the fluffy texture inside. The quality of the eel itself was good. I also had eel liver and pickles with the grilled eel and rice. The eel was packed neatly in the container with a generous portion and the sauce was elegant and to my liking. The whole experience took about 2 hours. Each dish seemed to be carefully made with attention to detail. The atmosphere was very homely and the service was kind and warm. It was a delightful meal.

This is my second time here. I had a glass of Chardonnay wine. Since the grilled dish will take some time, I had some pickles. It goes well with the wine. The grilled dish included seaweed, cucumber, onion, myoga, wasabi, homemade yuzu miso, and citrus. The grilled dish had crispy skin and tender meat. The fat was elegant. Then, I had freshly grilled eel. The eel with sauce had even more delicious fat. Eel is especially tasty this season.

Fukuoka Hakata, Unagi Hyakumeiten, Unzen-san. It is a renowned restaurant known as the pinnacle of farmed eel. I visited on a Saturday at 7:30 PM with a reservation for one person. It is a family-run establishment with warm hospitality, making it a comfortable place to dine. The eel was delicious, with just the right amount of oiliness and sweetness. The sauce was rich in flavor but complemented the eel well. Towards the end of the meal, I had the opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation and learn more about eels. It is truly a restaurant that loves eels. I was captivated by the experience. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I finally visited a famous eel restaurant that I've always wanted to go to. I made a reservation over the phone for the 5700 yen bamboo course. The amount of eel was unexpectedly large, and I could adjust the sauce to my liking. The eel had a perfect texture, not too crispy or too soft. It was delicious. The proprietress and the young proprietress both greeted me warmly, and saw me off until I was out of sight. It was truly a wonderful experience. Thank you for the meal.

"I made a reservation at "Unazen" that I remembered after a long time. I have eaten takeout from there a few times before, but eating eel in Fukuoka (Kitakyushu) has always been a must at the restaurant called Inakuan, so it has been a while since I ate eel at a place other than Inakuan. When I thought about it, "Unazen" is selected as a bronze and top 100 restaurant on Tabelog, and it also has a Michelin Plate. Naturally, it is a popular and famous restaurant. Despite its simple appearance as a casual eatery, it serves high-quality eel that is carefully prepared. The jazz music playing in the background and the warm and friendly service create a cozy atmosphere in the restaurant. I was recommended to try the "Matsu" for the eel with good fat content. [Unazen * Today's order] - Matsu - Grilled eel liver - Rolled omelette with dashi sauce. They asked if I wanted the eel on top of the rice or separate, and this time I chose to have it on top in a bowl style. The grilled eel liver served first had a superb dipping sauce that paired well with sake. It's so good that it could become addictive for sake lovers. The rolled omelette had a delicate and light dashi flavor that complemented the eel perfectly. Now, the main dish of eel was placed on top of the rice, with the tail end tucked underneath, offering a generous portion. The thick and juicy eel meat, with a crispy skin full of flavor, was cooked to perfection. The amount of sauce and sansho pepper used was just right, creating a perfect balance. The white rice also paired well with the eel. I would love to try seasonal eel or wild-caught eel in the winter. Thank you for the delicious meal. Thank you for reading until the end. If you liked the review, please like, follow, and save the restaurant. Thank you."

The staff at this eel restaurant in Hakata have such unique habits that it's hard to stop laughing, but the eel is delicious. Una-Zen is a representative eel restaurant in Hakata run by the Fukuda family. The current owner, Fukuda Shumori, is the second generation of the shop. The shop is managed by the second-generation owner, the former owner's wife, and the second-generation owner's sister, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. This long-standing eel restaurant has been in business for 30 years. The shop is located about 30 meters southwest of the Takasago 1-chome intersection on the Takasago Hirao Line. The nearest station is Watatsumi-dori Station, an 8-minute walk away. The opening hours are from 12:00 to 14:00 and 18:00 to 20:00. Closed on Sundays and holidays. The opening hours may change depending on the weather or the day's circumstances. There are 12 seats in total, including 8 counter seats and 4 table seats. It is recommended to make a reservation by phone before visiting as walk-ins are not usually accepted. The menu includes grilled raw liver, eel rolls, marinated eel, and eel with liver and soup. The shop has a strong commitment to grilling techniques, using bamboo skewers to grill the eel without cutting it open. The bamboo skewers help prevent overcooking and achieve the most delicious eel grilling. The eel is then cut into easy-to-eat pieces and finished with careful attention to cooking. The warmth and friendliness of the staff left a stronger impression than the deliciousness of the food.

I visited during lunchtime at 12:00 PM. I had made a reservation so there was no wait. I ordered the eel kaiseki course (¥11,200) which included grilled liver, rolled eel, broiled eel, grilled eel (unaju), pickles, and liver soup. I also had a bottle of beer (Super Dry) and sake (Kosansui, Chiebijin, Higashiichi).

This is my second visit. Just like last time, I visited during the daytime on a weekday, and once again, there was a sign saying "Eel sold out" along with a notice saying "Today, we are operating by reservation only." It seems difficult to visit without a reservation. I started by ordering a bottle of beer (650 yen). As I was enjoying my drink, the raw liver grill (market price) was served. This raw liver grill can only be ordered with a reservation. The liver grill listed on the menu for 800 yen is a different item that has been cooked and stored. The grilled liver with sauce has a rich flavor, and the spiciness and freshness of the grilled green pepper with bonito flakes help cleanse the palate after eating the liver. It goes well with beer. Before I knew it, the eel bowl "Matsu" (7550 yen) was served. The eel, which is large and thick, appears to have a lot of eel meat because some parts are stacked on top of each other. They use specially selected eels from an eel wholesaler for Unazan, and the ones served as "Matsu" are even more special. The skin is crispy, and the flesh is juicy and well-cooked. The eel is not coated in sauce; the sauce is served in a separate dish. You can adjust the amount of sauce to your liking. It's quite unusual. They cook the eel by grilling it locally without steaming, so it's what you might call "Kansai-style." The eel, which is rich in fat and has a thick flesh, overflows with the umami of the fat when you chew on it. The sauce, with just the right amount of sweetness and spiciness, enhances the flavor of the eel without overpowering it. The rice portion is small, but you can ask for a free refill if you want more. I indulged in a generous amount of eel, but even with the extra rice, I still felt like I needed a little more, so I asked for another small portion of rice. The liver soup and pickles were also delicious, and I finished everything in no time. The total bill was 8900 yen, so the raw liver grill must have been around 700 yen, which wasn't as expensive as I had feared. Nevertheless, it's disappointing how the price of eel has been soaring lately. I have visited eel restaurants all over the country, but I think Unazen is one of the best in terms of taste. Thank you for the meal.

The eel kaiseki course was excellent, but since it was for a minimum of 2 people, I reserved the same priced premium course. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated at a table and given explanations about the dishes and how to eat them. First, beautifully arranged grilled eel was served. Oh, it's not like eel bones sticking out! I usually only order eel rice bowls, so I was surprised. The skin was crispy and the meat was soft and fatty. Then, freshly grilled eel slices were brought to us. They were piping hot and even more tender and delicious. Next came the main dish, the eel rice bowl. The sauce was unique, and I liked to pour it according to my preference. It was slightly spicy and just the right amount for a perfect taste. Of course, it paired perfectly with the eel. Ah, so delicious! Besides the amazing taste, the landlady and the young landlady (seems to be her daughter) provided great service, especially the young landlady's cheerful way of talking made me laugh multiple times in my mind. Thanks to them, I enjoyed delicious eel in a great mood. Premium course for 11,200 yen.

Fluffy (*´꒫`) Fluffy (๓´˘`๓) ໒꒱ Unbelievably fluffy eel♡ It's like... soft and fluffy ( ✿˘︶˘✿ ).。.:* ♬*゜I usually prefer eel with elasticity and thickness, not the soft kind, but I discovered at Unazen that high-quality eel can be this soft and delicious ( ⸝⸝・໐・⸝⸝ ) The grilled eel has so much fat and it just melts away!!( ☉_☉) I've never had grilled eel like this before! The homemade yuzu pepper is delicious, but wasabi is the best♡ Dipping in vinegar soy sauce with seaweed is delicious♡ It lacks the elasticity that I usually prefer in grilled eel, but this is delicious in its own way(ღڡღ)ウマァ! I usually like the skin more crispy, but this is tasty too(⋆ˊᵕˋ )( ˊᵕˋ⋆) When I asked the landlady, she said the collagen between the flesh and skin is delicious, so they don't make the skin too crispy... I get it now( ՞ . .՞)" The soup is delicious too♡ The pickles are delicious too♡ The rice is tasty, but I prefer it a bit firmer, but it goes well with Unazen's eel, I guess. The service is beyond amazing!! From Fukuoka START to finish, it was a hit o(>∀<*)o Thank you for the feast♡♡♡
