I have no problem entering an okonomiyaki and monjayaki restaurant alone, but imagining myself eating monjayaki makes me terribly sad. I wanted to try the modern style of monjayaki, so I visited this place with a female colleague from the local area and her fifth-grade daughter. We arrived at 6:00 PM on a Saturday, and about two-thirds of the seats were already filled, including reserved seats. The left side had table seating, while the right side had sunken kotatsu-style seating. Next to us in the sunken seating were three high school boys in their club uniforms. At the table behind us, a group of men and women who had just finished work were having a great time. My colleague, who had been here before, took care of the order, and I started with a refreshing glass of beer. In the end, we ordered three monjayakis. My colleague handled the cooking. The basic monjayaki cost 470 yen plus tax, with toppings like cabbage, fried tempura bits, cut squid, dried shrimp, and pickled ginger, with additional toppings like mentaiko for 100 yen plus tax and mochi for 150 yen plus tax. The hot iron plate was used to create a ring of ingredients, then Worcestershire sauce was poured into the center. Once it started bubbling, we turned down the heat and used spoons to scoop and eat it. Delicious! The perfect spiciness of the mentaiko and the tanginess of the pickled ginger were great. The five-ingredient monjayaki with octopus, shrimp, squid, and pork cost 850 yen plus tax. The appearance on the iron plate was similar to the basic monjayaki, but the texture and taste of the seafood ingredients were truly enticing. The diced cabbage played a supporting role and enhanced the overall flavor. The pizza monjayaki with wiener sausage, cheese, corn, and additional toppings like mochi for 150 yen plus tax cost 800 yen plus tax. The addition of tomato broth gave it a red hue, and once topped with cheese, it became a pizza monjayaki. It wasn't like a pizza, but a unique monjayaki with pizza flavors. Delicious! Monjayaki is best enjoyed with friends who you get along with, rather than eating alone. I used to think monjayaki was bland, but it turned out to be different. Thank you for the delicious meal.
