I've always wanted to try this curry restaurant in Nijo. It's a bit of a walk from Nijo Station. I arrived at 13:30 and there was no wait. However, since the owner is running the place alone, it took quite a while for the food to be served, about 30 minutes. I ordered the "Three Kinds Topping" for 1350 yen, with a change to basmati rice for an additional 200 yen, and a discount of 50 yen for a small rice portion.
The curry of the day included:
A: Creamy pork keema with sesame-scented dried fish broth
B: Seafood broth meat sucking curry
C: Pakistani curry
I couldn't choose between them, so I decided to get all three toppings. The menu mentioned that basmati rice goes well with the curry, so I hesitantly added it for 200 yen, but in the end, I was glad I didn't change the rice portion because the curry was already soaking into it.
All three kinds of curry were unique and delicious! A had a strong dried fish flavor, but it surprisingly worked well as a curry. B was meat sucking curry, but it perfectly stood as a beef curry. Adding grated daikon radish for flavor change made it even more delicious. C was fibrous. It's definitely fibrous. It may be the most curry-like curry, but it deviates a lot from the typical chicken curry. All of them were delicious and fun.
Unfortunately, it takes a bit of time, so I'd like to go back when I have some free time!

Visited around 1 pm on Sunday, was able to be seated right away. Ordered three kinds of rice with large portions, topped with cilantro and a hot spring egg. The meat curry had a rich and flavorful broth, very delicious. I usually prefer European-style curry, but the spice curry here is something I would want to eat again.

I had my first experience with spice curry in my life! I ordered the "3 kinds of pork toppings" which took about 20 minutes to arrive as it was being operated by one person. The flavors I tried were "Coconut Pork Keema with Dried Bonito Broth", which had a mild spicy taste with a hint of coconut, "Mackerel Broth Meat Sucking Curry", my favorite with a rich and deep curry taste where you could feel the mackerel, "Pakistan Curry", which was a bit strong in flavor for me. The taste of "Pork" was the most mysterious to me, with a slightly acidic and spicy flavor. It was strangely addictive. I wonder about the seasoning. Spice curry is perfect for summer. It was delicious!

There are several renowned spice curry restaurants in Kyoto, known for its gourmet scene, although not as famous as Osaka. This particular place was not on my radar until I saw many appetizing photos on Instagram. I decided to visit for lunch and it turned out to be a great choice. The curry menu offers three options, where you can choose two or all three, and add toppings according to your preference. The Pakistani curry (boneless chicken curry) is a staple, while the other two options change daily or weekly. The curry, made with dried bonito and seafood broth, has a slightly tangy flavor with a rich aroma of broth, making it very approachable. The curry comes with plenty of achaar and on this day, I added cilantro as a topping. The vibrant appearance of the dish increases your appetite. The owner runs the restaurant single-handedly, so there might be a bit of a wait during busy times (I visited right at opening, so no wait). In any case, I found a great restaurant.

Located a 5-minute walk from Nijo Station, this restaurant run by a single owner with 240 seats may have a bit of a wait depending on when you arrive. They offer a variety of curry dishes, including Creamy Pork Keema with Sesame-infused Dried Sardine Broth, Saba Curry with Sardine Broth, and Pakistan Curry with a rich curry base and tender meat. The curry with sardines was a first for me, and the combination of sardines and curry was perfect! The Pakistan Curry was rich and the meat was tender. The pickled purple cabbage on the side paired excellently with the bold flavors of the curry. The portions are quite generous, so it's best to come hungry. They also offer a limited-time menu item called "neo Cheese Curry," which turned out to be a surprising transparent curry with a generous amount of cheese on top. The flavor was quite intense. The Three-Kind Curry Set costs 1,350 yen.

It had been a while since my last visit, and this time I decided to go on a Sunday afternoon for the first time. The restaurant was packed with all seats taken. After waiting for about 30 minutes, a table opened up and I was able to sit down. I ordered the 3 kinds of sushi platter again, and as always, it was delicious! If you prefer a lighter meal for lunch, you may want to go for less rice. Thank you for the meal!

I heard that there are two delicious spice curry restaurants near Nijo Castle, and I visited one of them, called 240 (Nikoyon). It was a bit far from the station, so I thought I could easily get in if I went late, but when I arrived at 13:20, I was wrong - it was full and I had to wait for 20 minutes.
They offer 3 types of curry to choose from: A) Coconut Pork Keema with Bonito Broth, B) Saba Broth Meat Sucking Curry, C) Pakistani Curry. Since I couldn't decide, I ordered the "All Toppings" option for ¥1350.
The Saba Broth Meat Sucking Curry was delicious, with the saba and curry flavors complementing each other perfectly. The Coconut Pork Keema with Bonito Broth had a coconut flavor first, followed by the bonito, and it was also delicious. The Pakistani Curry, a boneless chicken curry with a hint of sourness, was also very tasty.
Although all of them were delicious, if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the Pakistani Curry. It had a level of spiciness that even those who don't like spicy food can enjoy. I really liked it! I've decided to revisit this place!

I was interested in this curry restaurant. Pakistani curry is very intriguing because it comes from a Muslim country. I thought it would be like soup curry, but the curry at this restaurant was made by simmering chicken without water. It was not too spicy and easy to eat.

Address: 863-25 Asada Building 1F, Jurakucho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto-fu
Ordered: Three kinds of toppings (A + B + C) for ¥1,350
Soft-boiled egg topping for ¥100
Coriander topping for ¥100
A. Creamy pork keema with sesame-scented simmered bonito broth
B. Saba broth meat-sucking curry
C. Pakistani curry
First of all, my personal MVP was the saba broth curry (B)… it was overwhelmingly delicious. The staff seemed to be working hard on their own, but when I mentioned how delicious it was, the waiter said, "I also love the saba broth ☺️," which made me happy and enhanced the taste. The soft-boiled egg topping was also amazing, so silky smooth. I love coriander, so I added extra coriander. There were quite a few people doing the same. It was worth waiting for about 30 minutes during lunchtime. The business hours are 11:00-15:30 (L.O 15:00) for lunch and 18:00-23:00 (L.O 22:00) for dinner. Closed on Wednesdays.

This time, we visited four curry restaurants in Kyoto for a food tour. Following the first stop at "Shinrin Shokudo," we ventured to another place not too far away. The next stop was "240," which has been awarded the Bib Gourmand in both the "Michelin Guide Kyoto, Osaka + Okayama 2021" and "Michelin Guide Kyoto, Osaka + Wakayama 2022." The name of the restaurant is written as "240," pronounced as "Niko-yon." It is a slang term referring to non-regular workers who earned 240 yen a day after World War II. The name was chosen because the owner had worked as a non-regular worker earning 240 yen a day when he was in his teens. The review continues with photos.

When I wanted to eat curry, I thought about going to the Forest Dining Room, but I was intrigued by a curry shop on the street I always pass by. It was a spice curry shop that I like, so I enthusiastically ordered the recommended set of 3 types of curry, with a change to basmati rice. The curry was divided, allowing for various combinations or eating them separately, giving a lot of freedom. The set included Pakistani curry, seafood (probably mackerel) broth curry, and pork keema curry. Among them, the Pakistani curry was the most delicious, with tender chicken and spicy curry that blended well together, whether eaten alone or mixed with the other two curries. I was very satisfied with the experience, but I felt like there wasn't enough basmati rice, making me feel like I was just eating curry. I would be happy if they could increase the portion a bit more... I will come back again. Next time, I will order extra rice.

On December 11, 2022, around 11:30 AM on a Sunday, I happened to visit a restaurant while thinking about where to go on my bike. It felt like a fateful moment. There were two other customers inside the restaurant. I ordered two types of curry, Creamy Pork Keema with sesame-scented bonito broth and Seafood Broth Meat Sukiyaki Curry, served side by side. The curry, beautifully presented, arrived a few minutes after ordering and was Instagram-worthy. Both curries had a mild and easy-to-eat flavor. I found it interesting that the Seafood Broth Meat Sukiyaki Curry came with grated daikon radish.

This curry shop was featured in the Michelin Guide Kyoto Bib Gourmand. I tried the Pakistani curry for 1100 yen, which was a chicken curry simmered for a long time until it became fibrous. It wasn't too spicy and had a good balance of spices, making it delicious. You can help yourself to water.

Hello, this is the generous curry old man, Fujijan. Today, I had a craving for curry and ate a delicious curry, but it wasn't enough... Can I do it, can I eat more? Yes, it's time to inject fighting spirit! I visited another restaurant that I had been eyeing, #240 (Nikoyon) located in Kyoto, Japan. I arrived at the restaurant at 12:15 pm and saw that they offer three types of curry. I ordered the set with all three curries for 1350 yen, plus an extra large serving of rice for 100 yen. I also decided to go for Japanese rice instead of basmati rice this time. The food arrived with three different curries - creamy pork keema, seafood broth meat curry, and Pakistani curry. Each curry had its own unique flavor and I particularly enjoyed the Pakistani curry. The meal also came with pickles, bean sprouts, and grated radish. I mixed everything together and enjoyed every bite, finishing the meal completely satisfied. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere and despite being a one-man operation, the service was quick and efficient. Overall, it was a delightful curry experience. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Order: Three kinds of curry with a large serving of rice and jerk pork topping (1700 yen). The curry was colorful and full of spices. It had a moderate level of spiciness, making it enjoyable even for curry beginners. The dish was packed with vegetables, making it a healthy choice.

Today's lunch was at "CURRY & BAR 240". Located in Kamigyo Ward, west of Nijo Castle, at the Senbon-kyu Nijo intersection. The restaurant is called "240" and pronounced as "Niko-yon". It is located in a mixed-use building with multiple shops, and has a narrow and long interior. There are three types of curry available, with the basic being a mix of all three. I ordered the "Three Kinds All Together" for 1350 yen. The dish arrived quickly and was quite chaotic. It included a variety of toppings such as quail eggs, pickles, and grated radish. The Creamy Pork Keema Curry had a creamy sesame flavor with a spicy kick from the oil. The seafood dashi complemented the minced meat well. The Seafood Dashi Meat-absorbing Curry also had a perfect balance of seafood dashi and meat, enhanced by the grated radish. The Pakistani Curry had finely shredded chicken with chunks of meat, providing a rich meaty flavor. Overall, the curry was packed with delicious spices and flavors that I really enjoyed.

No matter how many times I go, I never get tired of this delicious restaurant! I ordered the "Zen Nori Curry" with three types of curry, each with its own unique flavor, but they all harmonize well together. The portion size is quite generous, so women might want to consider ordering a smaller portion.

I visited a spice curry restaurant along Senbon Street for lunch on Saturday. I arrived a bit late at around 13:40 and the curry didn't arrive until 15:10, which was quite a long wait of 1.5 hours. The restaurant had a Michelin sticker on the window and also seemed to operate as a bar. The owner seemed to handle both cooking and serving alone. There was about a one-hour wait outside before getting a table, and then it took another 30 minutes for the food to be ready. The service was polite, and there were signs inside apologizing for any delays. The curry options included a choice of two or three types of curry toppings. The "Dashi Curry" was particularly delicious with a strong beef and seafood broth flavor. If it weren't for the long wait, I would have rated this place higher. It's a bit difficult to evaluate this restaurant because of the wait time.
